      אזהרה פוסט ארוך במיוחד 🤓

      העיירה שהעברנו בה את הרביצה הייתה יפיפיה ומצאנו ספוט עם נוף לאגם מדהים, נהנו מסתם לחיות ולדבר על מה נעשה עד שבוקר אחד קמנו מדפיקות על החלון, המשטרה/מעוצה המקומית ביקשה שלא נישן כאן יותר :( לא התבאסנו יותר מידי וחזרנו לאיפה היה האירוע כדאי לישון ליד הפיצה טרק איפה שישנו שאר הלילות באמצע היום מגיע מישהו אחר מהמועצה ואומר שהוא רואה את הרכב שלנו מסתובב בעיירה כבר כמה ימים ומבקש מאיתנו לצאת מהעיירה וללכת לקאמפר וואנים מסודר לישון בו. אלברט לא הסכים לשלם לנו על לילה שם ואמרנו שלא שווה להוציא כסף על זה אז חיפשנו מקום שאפשר לישון בו בחינם ומצאנו שמורת טבע במרחק שעה מאיתנו שיש גם מסלול הליכה יום אחרי אז החלטנו לנסוע .
      הגענו למקום עם נוף לקניון מדהים ומקום נורמאלי לישון בו שיש גם מלא אוסטרלים פנסיונרים שמטיילים עם ואנים רצינים. בלילה פגשנו חיות מגנבים ובגללל שלא היה זהים אור היה אפשר לראות את הכוכבים ואת שביל החלב 🤩.
      בבוקר עשינו טיול יום חמוד ונהנו מלטייל באה של אוסטרליה משהו שלא ממש חווינו עד היום.
      הבנו שאנחנו נסיים את האירוע הקרוב ואחריי זה נתפטר ופשוט נתחיל לטייל ביבשת ופשוט נשחר כל מה שקשור לעבודה כי זה לא זורם לנו עכשיו. כלכך כיף שתמיד הבחירה אצלנו וחופש הזה גם לתחושת שיחרור .
      אחרי זה נסענו לאירוע הבא בעיירה אחרת שהיא שעתיים מאיתנו האירוע היה די דומה לקודם רק הפעם מירוץ סוסים ולא תחרות . העבודה היה יותר קשוחה ושנינו לדעת שזה האירוע האחרון שלנו .
      הגורל רצה ובסוף האירוע שאכלנו סרטים על איך נתפטר אלברט הביא לנו את הכסף ואמר שלא צריך אותנו יותר, אנחנו חושבים שהוא הרגיש שלא טוב לנו ומשהו באווירה לא היסתדר אבל אין מה להניח הנחות כי זה שלו, אני הרגשתי שזה שפשוט הגורל דוחף אותנו לצאת לטייל ולהפסיק לעבוד ואם עד עכשיו לא היינו סגורים על ההחלטה זה היה סימן קריאה למחשבות .
      חזרנו לטאונסוויל ופגשנו שוב את הבנות בבית שלו התחלנו לחשוב על מסלול לטיול שלנו ומה באלנו לראות ואנחנו מתרגשים להמשך במסע שלנו כאן באוסטרליה מטורף איך הדברים זורמים ומתגלגלים בצורה לא צפוייה .      Lue lisää

      Richmond, Hughenden and Charters Towers

      A one night stop in Richmond to see the dinosaurs. After lunch we went to Kronosaurus Korner. A very interesting place to go. Loved that we could go at our own pace. We stayed at Lakeview Caravan Park. Where we were told that red claw were in the water. We got a couple of pots and gave it a go. Red claw have nothing to fear from us. On to Hughenden. We really need to keep track of the days travelling into remote towns on the weekend means nothing is open. We went for a drive to Prairie and spent time in the old pub. Visited the bakery on our way out of town and had one of the best pasties. (We left on Monday). One night at Charters Towers (we will be coming back) the city has great architecture. The caravan park was beautiful and green. We went out to Burdekin Weir. A truly beautiful place.Lue lisää

      Richmond-Marine Fossil Museum

      Richmond is halfway between Townsville and Mt Isa and is home to Australia's premier marine fossil museum. We have found great coffee (roasted in Townsville) and about to embark on our museum self guided audio tour.Lue lisää

      On the way to Richmond met a large mob of cattle being driven down the Long Paddock. We met them at a railway crossing together with a train. Train stopped to let cattle cross. Booked into Caravan Park and went to information centre, After Lunch walked down to memorial park next to the caravan park and took photos of Uncle Harry's bust in the Park. Went to the Dinosaur Exhibit and then went back to caravan for dinner.Lue lisää

      Drove down the Winton Road from Richmond as far as Glenlyon. Bitumen nearly all the way. When I worked at Clareborough in 1976, there was no bitumen. Road was good apart were it had washed due to floods.Lue lisää

      After a long days drive, we arrived at our caravan park at Richmond to ride out the forecast flooding rain event. We decided to stay at the caravan park as opposed to the free camp, as it has bitumen and concrete sites, power/water and amenities whilst we are hunkered down. The park is adjacent to a man made lake with walking paths, gardens, lights and BBQ areas everywhere...a great place to ride out the weather.

      Kronosaurus Korner was great...a lot better than Hughenden, and contained heaps of full skeletons and fossils of mainly sea based dinosaurs. This region was once covered by a huge inland sea, and there seems to be heaps of fossils being uncovered quite regularly.

      The rain event has started and we're waiting it out and hoping we don't get flooded in as the roads are quite susceptible to flooding.

      We are booked in to a farmstay at Winton on Friday, and have paid for 2 dinosaur tours on Saturday and Sunday, so are hoping we are able to get through...      Lue lisää

      Rocky Road to Richmond

      It was a beautiful morning with not a cloud in the sky. We were initially heading for a free camp in Marathon. We stopped in Hughenden for diesel, and Ian remembered (later!) that he had overheard someone talk of the state of the next stretch of road. Oh my goodness! I thought we were going to be airborne - several times. I associate that drive with hanging on to the door handle for dear life, while listening to the 'Persimmon Tree'' by Bryce Courtney. Why did I ever think that he was a good writer!
      Marathon turned out to be little more than a toilet stop on the side of a busy road. We unanimously agreed to pass this camp by, and headed on to a free camp in Richmond. A great place, - but no toilets. We went to the pub for a beer, and Frankie was allowed in - he causes comment so often whereever we go! He is such a pretty boy. The barman summoned me over to see his 6 dogs, which were kept out back. 4 terriers, an Alsation, and another big one who didn't come near. We had a beer, a bit of craic, and headed home for tea. The night sky was clear, and stars were bright and just perfect. Richmon is known for its Dinausaur finds...the Tourist information centre is on the corner of Kronosaurus Korner. They also have a lovely unattended historical building. Appart from the many interesting items within the building - many of which were aboriginal, there was a fantastic restored mail coach down in the back shed. It seated eight people - and must have been dreadfully uncomfortable.      Lue lisää

      Six weeks on the road today.

      Just a short hop up the road today to Richmond. Home of the Kronosaurus. Graham had a close call ... he was almost eaten alive 😂

      Spent a lovely hour or more chatting with Maree the owner of the Drapery. Her Grandmother opened the store in 1881. Went through 2 fires, only to now to be on the brink of having to shut the business through lack of trade.

      Stayed at the local RV site again. These are so good if you are fully self contained. Only $5.00 and you can stay for up to 3 nights. Scored a nice shady spot which was a blessing another hot day 34°. We are supposed to hit rain on the weekend and the locals have imformed us the temp will drop and be cold after the rain.

      When traveling we have a competition to see who spots the most emus.
      Finally spotted our 1st one today.
