    • Day 22–24

      Tag 19 & 20 (SA)

      January 4 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

      Wauraltee Beach

      September 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Well, this was an experience, we were going to camp on the beach, reviews said it was easy. We got bogged and decided that we would chicken out and stay at the campsites which were just above the beach. So we are now in a sheltered camp just behind the dunes with a short walk to the beach. As it a long weekend and the start of the school holidays it is starting to get busy on the beach but we will stay here for a week as school holidays are not an easy time to find camps. We have had a few shinglebacks come to visit, which is doing Megas head in. We used our time here to investigate the York Peninsula. We drove to Minlaton, Yorketown, Marian Bay, Stansbury, Edithburgh, Warooka over the week, getting a flat tyre and having to go back to Minlaton to get it repaired. The weather beats us, and we decided that the beach with the wind and rain was not the best place to be, so we moved on.Read more

    • Day 238–242

      Wauraltee

      January 9 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

I don't think there are many places you can camp legally on the beach anymore. What a treat. There had to be over 60 vans and camper trailers along the beach at any given time. The water here was actually warmish for the first time. Only 1 high and low tide every 24hrs. Something to do with the Southern and Pacific Oceans meeting.

It's a wonderful summer holiday spot. Plus, it's free. If you camp up behind the dunes, it's council land. They charge you $20 per night. The beach camping in crown land no changes.

Spent lots of time swimming and walking the beach. Would have stayed longer, but the winds were picking up again over the weekend. Not so pleasant on the beach with gale force winds.

Very pleased with our old van and car. Pulled out of the softer sand without a problem. Not like next to us. 8 Max tracks. 3 men with shovels to get their off-road van out.
