• Lane Poole Falls

    May 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After reading from Life of Py and Long Ways Better that the planned hike of the Bib Track from Deeside Coast Road was flat and boring, we decided to do Lane Poole Falls instead.
On the way to Lane Poole, we made a stop at Snake Gully Lookout and Big Tree Grove, part of the stunning Great Forest Drive, lined with tall karri trees.
The 5km hobbit trail to the Falls was beautiful, but the falls itself a bit lacklustre. The trail was teeming with birdlife. A cacophony of different tweets, chirps and warbles accompanied us through the hour and a half.
Shannon campsite is huge. It it's very well facilitated with BBQs, flushing toilets and a shower that one needs to light a fire under the boiler to get hot water. Yesterday, a couple from Brisbane pulled in towing a boat. Yes, they towed said boat all through the centre of a Australia to Shannon National Park. They hope to eventually introduce the boat to water one day. In the meantime, they sleep in the boat when camping. The other couple in the campsite came from Victoria and has towed a caravan around Australia with a 2WD ute. They said that there were a few tracks they could not go on as they did not have a 4WD, but they managed very well with their 2WD. Very heartening news for us who would like to explore further in our Forrester.
