      Klianti-Haus

      Das Klianti-Haus ist eines der ältesten Wohngebäude mit Holzrahmen aus der Zeit der Bulgarischen Wiedergeburt in der Architektur des antiken Plovdiv.
      Das Klianti-Haus stammt aus der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts stellt das frühe asymmetrische Haus in Plovdiv dar. Beeindruckend ist die reiche dekorative Verzierung, während der sogenannte Himalaya – ein Übergangsraum zwischen zwei Stockwerken – einzigartig auf dem Gebiet des Reservats ist.

      Im Laufe seines langen Bestehens wechselte das Haus mehrere Besitzer und trägt heute den Namen seines ersten Besitzers – des Wollstoffhändlers Klianti.

      Das Klianti-Haus wurde 1945 zum „Nationalen Altertum“ erklärt und 1995 zum architektonischen und künstlerischen Kulturdenkmal von nationaler Bedeutung. Die Forschung und Restaurierung des Gebäudes begann 1971. Sie durchliefen mehrere Phasen und wurden 2017 fertiggestellt, als das Haus fertiggestellt wurde wurde als „Gebäude des Jahres“ ausgezeichnet.      Read more

      Day 99: Plovdiv Oldtown

      Plovdiv, the European Capital of Culture in 2019, has seen many nations over its lifetime including Greeks, Romans, Bulgars, Ottomans, Russians, and now independence. We arrived at 8am by train and checked into the hostel for a quick nap.

      Oldtown Plovdiv offers a program where you can buy a ticket to 5 cultural sites of your choice. We selected Ancient Roman Theatre of Philippopolis, Balabanov's House, Hindliyan`s House, and Hippocrates Pharmacy Museum. The houses were traditional Bulgarian style with wood carvings in the ceilings but also Roman/Turkish baths! The room are color themed and older furniture was staged to mimic a typical room design.

      We ended our tour with delicious craft beer and a beautiful view of the city.

      A walk through time in Plovdiv

      Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria, is Europe's oldest continually inhabited city, and is the 2019 European Capital of Culture... and boy, does it have some culture.

      We went for a walking tour today, starting at the new end of their mall ("the longest walking street in Bulgaria"), built in the 2000's, followed by an area built in the 1800s with a strong Viennese influence, the old town (1700s Revival style), mosques built by the Ottomans, a Roman era ampitheatre (200 AD) and the ruins of a fort on one of the surrounding hills, dating back to 5000 BC.

      Plovdiv is surrounded by 6 hills - it used to be 7, like Rome, but one was destroyed in the beginning of the 20th century and the material was used for the pavement of most streets in Plovdiv, and is now home to a shopping mall.

      The two main ancient sites are the Stadium of Phillippopolis, which was renovated in 2010 and a section is visible in the centre if town, and The Roman Amphitheatre, which was uncovered during a landslide in 1972 and is now fully restored. It seats 3000 spectators and hosts regular concerts and events.      Read more

      Tag 58.3: Plovidiv anders

      Auf dem Rückweg liefen wir noch durch das lebendige Kneipenviertel „Kapana“, welches eine Mischung aus kreativ, alternativ sowie stylisch ist und ein Ort wäre an dem man sich abends ohne Kinder mal ganz gut aufhalten könnten. Danach ging es wieder zurück durch die Fußgängerzone zum Auto. Die Stadt soll ja eigentlich auf sieben Hügeln gebaut sein, aber wir haben uns mal weitere Besteigungen außer den Altstadthügel gespart.
      Zum Abschluss fuhren wir noch zu einer Art „Einkaufszentrum“, bei dem Kaufland, Lidl und dm Drogeriemarkt an einem Fleck war, um letzte Besorgungen zu machen, bevor es wieder zurück ging in unseren Garten.
      Zurück zu Hause hat Papa gekocht und für Mama hieß es wieder alle Betten zu beziehen und alle Wäsche wegzuräumen, aber es ist einfach so ein gutes Gefühl, wenn alles wieder sauber ist und frisch riecht. Was für ein unerwartet voller Tag… noch durch das lebendige Kneipenviertel ??? , welches eine Mischung aus kreativ, alternativ und stylisch ist, und wieder zurück durch die Fußgängerzone zum Auto. Die Stadt hat sicherlich ein schönes Nachtleben. Außerdem soll die Stadt auf sieben Hügeln gebaut sein, aber wir haben uns mal weitere Besteigungen außer den Altstadthügel gespart.
      Zum Abschluss fuhren wir noch zu einer Art „Einkaufszentrum“, bei dem Kaufland, Lidl und dm Drogeriemarkt an einem Fleck war, um letzte Besorgungen zu machen, bevor es wieder zurück ging in unseren Garten. Auf dem Rückweg kurz vor Ankunft haben wir noch was interessantes entdeckt: ein Gewächshaus mit Holzöfen.

      Elle est l'une des plus anciennes villes d'Europe et à été promue capitale européenne de la culture en 2019.

      Built in 90s AD and discovered in 1960s, this Roman Amphitheatre was hidden from our eyes for more than a millennium after being destroyed in the 4th century. Unbelievably, it can host up to 7000 spectators - isn't it a big number for the times 2000 years ago?🤔Read more

      Arrived in Plovdiv from Sofia by bus around midday, where we checked into our hostel and went out to explore Plovdiv. We had 2 nights booked here, but after going to sleep and waking up an hour later scratching, we found at least 3 bed bugs in our room. We must have really bad luck because it was less than 3 weeks ago when we had them in a hotel in Spain! We immediately packed up all of our belongings, booked a ticket on the next train out of Plovdiv and messaged the hostel owner who didn't believe me until I sent him the videos and photos of the bed bugs. We're feeling very disappointed (and tired) about this whole situation because we really enjoyed our afternoon in Plovdiv and were looking forward to spending another day exploring the city, but the nasty bed bug situation has really made us want to get out of here. This is definitely one of the downsides of travel.Read more

      Desde Kapana puedes ir hacia la calle de Alejandro I, la principal arteria comercial del centro histórico. Ahí están las grandes tiendas internacionales mezcladas con algunas más pequeñas que parecen salidas de los años ‘80.
      No te olvides de saludar a Milo “el loco”. Bueno, a su estatua. Milo fue un cómico y mimo local al que la gente de Plovdiv le tenía particular cariño.      Read more
