    Hillview Terrace Suites

    July 30, 2015 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

July 30 - St. John's, NL. First full day. Though it's cool and overcast, we set off for the Railway Museum in St. John's (for Don!). We drove to Quidi Vidi just outside St. John's, bought some beer but didn't take the brewery tour. Went to Nautical Nellies on Water St. for lunch and wandered Water Street, harbourfront, Murray Premises and walked down George St. where they were setting up for the George St. Festival. Rock band on stage. Paul was supposed to join us mid morning but due to the weather they didn't get to St. John's until 9pm - a 30 hour ferry trip from North Sydney, NS, instead of 14 hours. The boat couldn't dock because of the winds onshore. J&D and Den and I enjoyed a chicken dinner in the suite while we waited.Read more

    Neddies Harbour, Norris Point

    August 7, 2015 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

It is our last day together with Paul and Cheryl in Norris Point. We awoke to a cool, overcast morning and Janet and Don cooked fresh mackerel for breakfast. When walking last night, Den and Janet spoke with some fishrmen just coming in for the day. They offered the fresh caught fish and it was great. Soon after, we left for Woody Point. About an hours drive around Bonne Bay, we visited the Discovery Centre and then did a 4k hike up to the Tablelands - flat top mountains! Went in to Woody Point for a quick, late lunch and walkabout town. And picked up a fresh raspberry pie for dinner.
Unfortunately Paul and Cheryl now need wheel bearings on another wheel. We've found one they can pick up in Cornerbrook but will have to be installed in North Sydney, NS on Monday.

    Neddies Harbour Inn, Gros Morne

    August 5, 2015 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Aug 5th - our 43rd Anniversary! Sunshine greeted us. Cheryl took their car to Rocky Harbour to have the brakes checked. She had a great visit with Rudy's father as the car was checked - needs wheel bearings to be fixed tomorrow. The rest of us drove to Broom Point, a windy point! and site of a long ago fishing village. Then to the start of the hike to Western Brook Pond (3k walk in over bog like terrain). There was then a 2 hour ferry boat ride down the fijord on a pleasant afternoon, followed by the hike back to the car. We were treated to a wonderful dinner by P&C and J&D for our Anniversary. It was delicious - I had lobster! More card games (Paul won) and off to bed.Read more
