• Phnom Penh

    10 sierpnia 2015, Kambodża ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

AMAZING city - it has so much more to offer than one could have possibly imagined! From a grand variety of cafes, restaurants, boutique shops and entertainment and sport facilities (like yoga :D), this has also amazing temples, markets and some lovely buildings to show their preserved culture while at the same time constantly changing in its rising development... I think its sad history from the Khmer Rough also gives this city something very special, something deeper that one can only start feeling when looking into their past. I really recommend visiting the Killing Fields at Chueong Ek and the Prison Museum where they kept the victims... Czytaj więcej

  • Siem Reap (and Angkor temples)

    1 sierpnia 2015, Kambodża ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Siem Reap, in northwestern Cambodia, is gateway to the ruins of Angkor (the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th-15th centuries). Angkor’s vast complex of intricate stone buildings includes preserved Angkor Wat, the main temple, which is pictured on Cambodia’s flag. There are so many different temple, Ta Keo Temple steep stairs up, or Bayon temple which has giant, mysterious faces carved into the stone... Czytaj więcej

  • Krong Battambang

    13 lipca 2015, Kambodża ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Battambang is located in a beautiful area, full of trees, even some hills, a great river and many beautiful sites in its immediate surroundings. For example, Wat Banan, an incredible temple on a hill, dating back all the way from the Angkor Era. There are the famous bat caves, where thousands and thousands of bats fly out into the sky at around 5pm in the evening, when the sun goes down. There are the sad killing caves, which give the whole adventure a bitter taste, but certainly worth visiting.

A great city to go for a bike ride, or for a jog in the evening, or to spend a lovely lunch at one of those great cafes (we loved Jaan Bai (meaning “rice bowl” in Khmer) because it does not only serve amazing food and inventive cocktails, but it is also an excellent social-enterprise!

  • Bangkok

    17 czerwca 2015, Tajlandia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

A mix of modern and historic, crazy and relaxing, beautiful and disturbing - this city is definitely worth a visit!

We visited lots of temples like the Golden Mountain ("Wat Saket"), an ancient Buddhist temple on a steep artificial hill topped with a gold chedi, plus sweeping views. We visited lots of beautiful parks and tried the local street food (nice breakfast soups and vegetables:). We even tried some of the fried insects... ;D

We really enjoyed our evening visiting the Scala Movie Theatre, a beautiful place to watch a movie! It greets you with a huge domed ceiling, ornately decorated with large art deco bronzed flowers. There are double circular staircases, winding up to the second floor under a massive chandelier that hangs from the high ceiling to just above head height... We watched Jurassic World - haha that was funny :D

I did not see much of the nightlife, but I do not think I missed out on too much. There is all sorts of entertainment though.. from those famous "pingpong shows" to streets full of pubs, clubs and bars.

Bangkok has such a diversity of things to do, anyone can definitely find the right thing for themselves and their friends!

  • Singapore

    27 kwietnia 2015, Singapur ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Singapore was a great place to visit - it is a very modern place with lots of tall buildings, malls and beautiful, beautiful parks! We spent hours in the botanic gardens, and also saw the light show in the Gardens By The Bay (highly recommend a visit there!) We liked the great food options in the food courts, and overall the atmosphere here was very nice. We also went climbing (indoors, but fun!!!) and to a workout with Herbalife. There is lots to do here!! Czytaj więcej

  • Dragonboat

    4 kwietnia 2015, Hongkong ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

I joined the dragonboat team right after my first training with them in Sai Kung. I was immediately passionate about the energy in this sport - it is recognizable in the coaches, the team members, and soon it also took over me! I loved this sport, the team, and the fighting spirit. We were a really strong girl's team, holding together like a family. Also the guy's team was great! I think every single member was so important, so special, and that is really something taking into account the huge size of our dragon boat team!!!

Our training was mostly on the Shek Mun River, close to Fo Tan station. We trained Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the water, and had an amazing competition against the other dragon boat teams from different universities... it was crazy, intense, and so much fun!!!

I will always remember this experience.

Beautiful beaches for snorkling, swimming and relaxing! It is touristic, but you can easily get away from the crowds and find your favourite spot on this island to enjoy it in privacy with your loved one :)

P.s.: I do not recommend any of the organized tours that they offer everywhere - too hectic and not so much fun, even if quite cheap. ;)

  • Xcountry and Athletics Team

    17 grudnia 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Joining the xcountry and athletics team was one of the best things I could have done during my time at CUHK - their enthusiasm, energy, determination and skill has not only helped me to improve my own fitness level to one of the top runners for my college WYS, but also to gain a great group of amazing friends who I will stay in contact with for forever! Kelly, Charmaine, Long Long, Rani and Diana are only some of the amazing people I have met through xcountry, who have not only helped me to join many other races later on, but also to do other activities in Hong Kong like going swimming in Sha Tin and Tai Wai, or going to new places, markets and food corners.

I also want to thank my amazing coaches who have with their friendliness, patience and love have gained a big place in my heart.

  • Big Wave Bay, Shek O

    15 grudnia 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Big Wave Bay Beach was a beautiful beach which we really wanted to come back to and try some surfing or windsurfing here! It is located at the scenic eastern end of Hong Kong Island, close to the Dragon’s Back hiking trail (an amazing and exhausting hike that then continues to Shek O Beach - another beautiful beach to chill at) Czytaj więcej

  • Sham Shui Po

    13 grudnia 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We became very familiar with this District in Hong Kong because we stayed for several weeks at a nice apartment that we rented through airbnb.com

We loved it here! Sham Shui Po offers the perfect real-life-Hong-Kong experience with its many authentic Hong Kong markets and its working-class neighbourhood. Great and cheap places to eat, shop and stay at!

Our favourite breakfast place served Western breakfasts with eggs and coffee, while for dinner there was a huge variety of places to go - Japanese (sushi, sushi, sushi!) to Thai to Chinese to Western food!

  • The Peak

    11 grudnia 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Victoria Peak (太平山) with altitude of 552 m (1,811 ft) is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island. I went several times, at night and at day time, because the view is incredible and I love the hike up! It is short but super steep, and we managed to go up on New Year's Eve with my brother and dad in like 30min, so that we could be up there to see the beautiful fireworks all over Hong Kong Island! It was great!

They have a nice Starbucks Cafe and Haegen Dasz, and lots of other touristy shops and cafes (even a Forrest Gump Shop & Restaurant) but mostly expensive of course, but it is worth to come here simply for the view!!

    2 grudnia 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

This is also an incredible part of Hong Kong - one would not expect to find so much adventurous, unexplored land in a city like Hong Kong. New Territories has gigantic hills, beautiful hikes, fisher villages, Islands like Sharp island, and beaches like the Sai Wan beach with its waterfall... so much, so amazing, so adventurous!

I will especially remember Sai Kung for our Dragonboat training in the beautiful water there!

Guangzhou province - teaching Chinese to local students was an amazing experience for me. I went twice on this trip, and each time I learned so much and I was so happy to give knowledge, energy and motivation to these students. I hope they will get far, and will be able to see that learning English and saving their money for travelling and education is the right thing to do.. Czytaj więcej

  • Lantau Island

    29 października 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

This is one of my favourite islands of Hong Kong - so much nature! There is the big buddha statue on Lantau (which is an amazing, hard but totally worth-it hike if up for it!) and there are some amazing beaches here as well! There is also the lovely fishervillage Tai O.

I will always remember Lantau after I won the first position in the 13.5km Lantau Run for all women from Tung Chung to Tai O village!

It was a great trip, i found out a lot about what i liked and did not like to do during travelling with friends, and i learned a lot about how different each Asian culture could be.. A first taste to what was awaiting me the coming year when i would travel more and more more around Asia!!! Czytaj więcej

  • Sha Tin

    12 września 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Sha Tin District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong - the metro station Sha Tin was only 2 away from our university, so I used to go here a lot. It is useful for any kind of shopping (they even have an IKEA!!!), or to get a bus from here to other places like to Sai Kung or the airport bus A41 ;)

Sha Tin has great parks, great shopping malls, awesome restaurants (I will always remember the hot pot place Kuba and I used to go to!!!) and dessert places (with healthy mango desserts ;) and there are also the 10,000 Buddha statues, easy to find from Sha tin metro and bus terminal.

P.S.: they also rent bikes here! great to take a tour to Tai Wai markets or some other place!!

  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong

    4 września 2014, Hongkong ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This university was like home for me. I would have never thought i could get so attached to it after a year of studies here - but I did not want to leave anymore! The environment, the nature, the lovely campus with amazing facilities, the sports, and especially the people - I will never forget this year at CUHK and what it had taught me - way deeper than simply academical knowledge!!

I will always remember Vindaloo - that group of internationals (+Chloe) who were all so unique and special in their own way... our monopoly evenings, potluck evenings, or simple movie nights - it was always fantastic!

And Clover, my dear volunteering team, thank you for all the experience I have gained through you! (Even though sometimes it was reallllyyyy hard work and frustrating, it was worth it!)
