The cities of Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar are connected. Even so, it’s easy to tell when you’ve passed from one city into the next because the graffiti is suddenly replaced with an abundance of plants.

A green thumb seems just as mandatory here as a can of spray paint is in Valparaiso.

The centerpiece for Vina del Mar is a colorful clock made of flowers. Not only is the time accurate, but it has a functional second hand.

And, of course, a sleeping street dog finished up the scene.Read more

Nach unserem Höhentraining in den Anden verbringen wir einige Tage an der chilenischen Küste in Viña del Mar. Die Nachbarstadt Valparaiso ist berühmt für ihre steilen Strassen und kunstvoll bemalten Häuser.
Wir unternehmen einen Ausflug zu der kleinen Isla Cachagua, auf der eine Kolonie von Humboldt-Pinguinen lebt. Da man die Insel nicht betreten darf sehen wir die Pinguine nur aus einiger Entfernung. Noch nie habe ich mir so sehr gewünscht, einen Feldstecher dabei zu haben! 👀 (Und Raumspray, die kleinen Vögel stinken nämlich gewaltig 🤢)Read more

New city next to Valparaiso, started in the middle of the 20th century as a resort town. The flower clock is the symbol of the city. Then a look along the malecón or sea front followed by the big casino at the malecón. Then a park, a Moai from Rapanui at an archaeological museum. Easter Island (Rapanui) is part of Chile. Finally, the work of a sand artist on the beach showing a couple dolphins breaching. He was working on a octopus while I watched.Read more
