      Zagreb morning market

      We made it at 2 AM. Finally got into our sobe and that was high adventure ( more to come) now at almost 1 PM we are resting our feet in the Square and moving slow after lost sleep. We have been to the market where we bought fresh watermelon, figs, two apples, and the most unbelievable strawberries. I’m learning to use euro coins.Read more

      Visite de Zagreb

      Coucou ! ☀️ Hier fut une journée chargée et surtout très chaude !!!!! Il fait environ 32° à Zagreb, le soleil tappe et la chaleur fait en sorte que c'est plutôt assomant 🥵 Beaucouuuup d'eau pour éviter les coups de chaleur !

      Dès le matin, j'ai mis des souliers confortables pour marcher dans la ville et prendre le poul. La ville est propre, moderne et vieille à la fois, l'architecture fait typique "pays de l'Est", il y a peu de parcs malheureusement, mais il y a moyen de trouver de l'ombre grâce aux bâtiments ! Ma journée s'est donc résumé à marcher beaucoup dans la basse et haute ville, aller faire un tour au marché avec les locaux qui y étaient, faire une batch de lavage (enfin!) et un peu de repos en fin d'après-midi.

      J'ai fais la rencontre dans l'avant-midi à l'auberge d'un Français et d'une jeune Allemande, on s'est dit qu'on irait souper ensemble le soir ! En s'attendant dans le halle, on a fait la rencontre d'un autre Allemand et d'une Brésilienne, on a donc été souper tous ensemble et usé de l'anglais qui était pour tous notre deuxième langue pour communiquer ! C'était vraiment intéressant, enrichissant et cool comme soirée 😊 On est allé dans un resto typique croate (les plats sont consistants en p'tit pépère!) et ensuite dans un bar pour prendre un verre ! Quand même un total de 15km de marche pour la journée !!! 🦵 Aujourd'hui petite visite de la ville encore avec le Français et l'Allemand et je m'apprête à partir dans quelques minutes pour mon bus vers le sud de la Croatie pour y visiter le Parc National le plus populaire !

      Day 5

      The Pulse of Zagreb

      It was supposed to be 100% chance of rain today. But instead we woke up to cloudy skies and cooler temperatures so we walked downtown for the day.
      Everywhere you turn in Zagreb there are outdoor cafes with tables filled with people drinking coffee and a water or an alcoholic drink, anytime of the day. There is a ratio of 1 cafe to every 175 inhabitants!
      About mid morning we sat down at the cafe in the first picture. It’s located in the main square. To our surprise, suddenly there was a small band and several men on horses coming into the square. So like all the good tourists, I jumped up to get a picture! It was the “Cravat”Regiment, an honor guard battalion, that protects the upper town. They do a ceremonial changing of the guard on Saturdays.
      “Cravat” is the Croatian word for a men’s tie. Tradition has it, that the Croatian Calvary wore a red scarf around their necks. When the French King Louis XIV hired the Croatian Calvary, because he didn’t have a Calvary of his own, the French liked the red scarves so much and the men’s necktie was born! The third pic is of a famous necktie shop called Cravat!
      From high end art, to low end…graffiti. You see it everywhere in town, on all the buildings. This is an alley where there was a lot of it.
      A tradition that we had seen on the bridges in Paris, we found on a railing at a terrace overlook…couples put a padlock on the rail to symbolize their unbreakable love.
      We didn’t have a padlock so we just took this picture of us instead!

      Highlight of the day: we both bought rings and I bought earrings from a local artist!      Read more

      Départ de ZAdar ce matin sous la pluie. On mange sur l'autoroute. Tout va bien pour le remise de l'auto ensuite en taxi au Cilindar appartement. On sort en ville et on rencontre nos premiers québécois. Souper etl l magasinage. Demain grosse journée.. Le soleil est là en fin de journée. A demain voir photo de Gus trop mangé.l lRead more

      Zagreb 2.0

      Mein zweiter Tag in Zagreb beginnt mit aufregenden Neuigkeiten: ich wurde für meinen Wunsch Masterstudiengang in Schweden zugelassen! Nachdem ich das mit meinen Friends aus dem Hostel geteilt habe, machen wir uns gemeinsam auf den Weg in die Innenstadt- heute eher mit einem touristischen Programm im Kopf. Zunächst schlendern wir über einen kleinen Flohmarkt, wo Amy alte schwarz-weiß Fotos kauft, dann laufen wir an der großen Kathedrale vorbei und zum Obst und Gemüse Markt, wo wir uns die ersten Erdbeeren des Jahres gönnen. Da es dann schon Mittag ist, teilen wir uns auf und die beiden Vegetarierinnnen (Zoey und ich) picknicken im Park. Als nächstes steht das Museum of Broken relationships auf dem Programm, von dem ich schon viel gehört habe und das uns alle neugierig macht. Hier werden Objekte ausgestellt, die mit persönlichen Geschichten rund um Liebeskummer und Trennungen verknüpft sind. Im Anschluss holen wir uns erst Mal einen Kaffee im angrenzenden brokenships Café. Nachdem wir vergeblich nach Street Art auf altem Gemäuer gesucht haben, ziehen wir weiter zur Bacchus Jazz Bar und gönnen uns dann noch eine Pizza als krönenden Abschluss...Read more

      Second Day Zagreb

      Yesterday when we arrived I thought we might be disappointed with Zagreb. The area around the bus station was rather run down and not too nice (bit like Northampton Bus Station). However, today when we went into the city centre we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived to the annual 'Festival of Opportunity' celebrating different cultures and abilities. We had a brilliant walking tour. The city has some fantastic buildings and the tour guide was excellent...using a mix of history, wit and charm. Croatia had 2 larger earthquakes in 2020, not very noted due to what else was happening in the world. The earthquakes damaged the Cathedral which is apparently always under repair as the initial materials were poor quality. At 12 noon there is a canon fired from the turret building. Even though we knew it was coming it still made us jump! Hence some video footage of the floor!Read more

      Day4 🇭🇷 part “Croatia - Zagreb”

      4th day today and it’s time to chill a bit!
      Lampros started his day early by going out for a run in Zagreb. I waited in the room, got some snoozes and sorted my stuff out for the day. When Lampros got back, we checked out, left our bags in the car and headed off into town. We had some breakfast from a local bakery and walked around for some souvenirs and a few last spots we had left from yesterday. Shoutout to our friend Martina for recommending a super little cafe “Melt” for breakfast - we tried the pesto toast and coffees and juice. On our way to an underground passage called Grič (it was made in the Second World War as a bomb shelter) I spotted a small colourful pattern on the ground and got super excited to recognise it!
      There is a French artist called Ememem (he/she is anonymous) and he/she patches cracks in pavements with small pieces of tile like a mosaic. The process is called “flacking”. He/she also creates everything at night, I suppose to remain his/her anonymity and so everyone discovers it in the morning. Close to the spot, Zagreb has a a fortified tower called the Grič cannon (Croatian: Grički top). Since 1 January 1877, the cannon is fired from the tower on Grič to mark midday. The cannon was to give the sign for exact noon for-the bell-ringers of the city's churches. We were under it a couple of minutes before midday so waited for it to fire - it made a huge noise and it scared me in the beginning. 😂
      When we got back to the car, we drove to the Mirogoj cemetery - a huuuuuuuge cemetery with beautiful walls and tombstones. It was around 13:30 by then, so we thought we would fill up with petrol and start our journey to Slovenia. Part 2!      Read more

      Más luces y un perro con sudadera 🥲🐕❣️

      Fue un día muy movido. Justo después de acabar el turno, almorzamos y salimos de nuevo a la cafetería de la terraza a tomar un capuccino, luego pusimos rumbo hacia una tienda de ropa de segunda mano, estaba a punto de cerrar, así que aprovechamos para ver algo rápido y probarnos. Estaba todo al 50%. Volveremos la siguiente semana que sigue la rebaja. Tras esto, entramos en un Müller, probamos perfumes y dimos una vuelta por la zona de comidas bio, están mucho más baratas que en España! Al salir, vimos una chica tocando el violín con su perro vestido con una sudadera, más salao. Volvimos al hostel y descansamos unos 15 minutos, justo para salir a seguir viendo los puntos del festival que nos quedaban. Vimos el espectáculo de aros de nuevo, los edificios con proyecciones florales y la reproducción de WWF sobre la concienciación de la protección de la fauna y medio ambiente.Read more

      Wir sind von Rom mit dem Zug nach Zagreb gefahren und haben auf dem Campingplatz (https://www.plitvice.com/de/camping/?gclid=CjwK…) übernachtet. Am nächsten Tag haben wir die ST. Martin Kirche mit ihrem Bunten Dach und die Architektonisch sehr eindrückliche Altstadt.

      Day 23–25

      Zagreb

      Unser Aufenthalt in Zagreb zeichnete sich vor allem durch fast durchgehenden Regen aus. Das sorgte dafür, dass wir den ersten Morgen gemütlich mit unseren Büchern im Bett verbrachten. Später verkosteten wir dann ein paar Cevapi und weitere kroatische Hausmannskost. Danach ging es in ein Schokoladenmuseum, wo uns eine Probierschachtel durch die Geschichte der Schokolade führte. Das war wirklich ein spannendes und leckeres Erlebnis! (In einem Raum durfte man so viel flüssige Schokolade wie man möchte löffeln, in einem anderen gab's eine pure Kakobohne und wir probierten Ruby Schokolade)
      Heute morgen (Tag 2 / Abreisetag) schauten Wir uns noch die schönsten Bauwerke der Stadt an und vernaschten kroatische Palačinke. Die durfte man sich für einen echt guten Preis komplett selber zusammenstellen - lecker! 😋
      Bleiben wir noch kurz beim Thema Essen: Wir haben den besten Schokomuffin ever gefunden in Zagreb!! Schade, dass wir den nicht mitnehmen konnten :(
      Zagreb ist eine nette Stadt, verglichen mit unseren anderen Besuchen bis jetzt hat es uns aber nicht besonders bewegt (wortwörtlich). Es war aber trotzdem ein sehr schöner und vor allem erholsamer Aufenthalt :)
