  • Palo Duro State Park Day 2

    1 de marzo de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F

So Tuesday was interesting. The wind blew all day and it was overcast. So decided a good day to hike. Did a five mile hike to The Lighthouse and then added another 2. For some reason every thing hurt when I got back to camp. I used it as an excuse for a hot shower and a glass of wine. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. The wind is rocking the van but also seems to have blown the turkey flock out of camp. They are rather nosy and a bit scary. People apparently have been feeding the wildlife as you can tell by how close they all came.Leer más

I survived until the sun came out. Gorgeous morning So headed out on a 7 mile loop. It was awesome.Leer más

So a gorgeous and really cold morning but slept warm. Headed towards New Mexico and took back roads. It was awesome. So much open space but alot of pronghorns and llamas. Not sure why the llamas but anyway. Made it to the state park I was aiming for and they were closed, went to my second choice and the road access was closed. Then stopped at a small rv place and they wanted $45 dollars but did not have water because it was frozen. So headed to another RV site but the GPS could not locate it. So found a motel and the extra $10 got me a/c, heat. a tub, and what they call breakfast. Just cooked dinner in the trailer and now inside and chilling out. It is supposed to freeze again so I guess this is not a bad choice. Needed a good soaking and to wash my hair anyway. Did see a winery for sale along the way if anyone is looking. Appeared to have about 10 acres of poorly kept vines. Definitely in need of tlc. No photos today so sharing my last View of Palo Duro Canyon.Leer más

  • Lavaland RV park, Grants, New Mexico

    3 de marzo de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌙 45 °F

So this is where I am camping tonight. My sister used to live in Grants and I made a run to Walmart and it brought back memories. This is a funky town. But all said the people are very nice and the campsite has wifi, electricity and cable tv. To bad I did not bring a tv. my site overlooks the interstate but not close enough to be noisy, but the lights on all of the vehicles going by are almost like tv. I learned something about myself today. I checked out the free campsite I was going to stay at but of course it has no amenities. I actually drove by it and found out that it was 15 miles off of the highway, in the woods and there was no one else there. I decided I was not that brave and decided to pay for amenities. Yes I am getting soft in my old age. But I can leave the trailer here while exploring El Morro and El Malpais. Plus they have showers and a tv lounge if I really get desperate. The weather is perfect, 58 and sunny in the afternoon and 30 at 6 am in the morning. Clear and bright. Went through 3 layers of clothes between 6:30 am and 11am. But is great for hiking.Leer más

  • El Morro National monument

    4 de marzo de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Beautiful day and I did the hike over the top of the box canyon, and found snow. Talked myself over it all knowing the van was parked in front of ranger station and they would find me if anything went wrong. Apparently I still don't feel comfortable walking on the top of things with nothing to grab ahold of. It was around 9am and the ravens were having a blast on the thermals coming off of the rocks. Started the hike with them soaring above me and in the middle they were even with me. That did make it worth the walk across the top.Leer más

  • Ancient Ways Cafe

    4 de marzo de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

So had to stop, good memories from my last visit to Grants, New Mexico
My sister, her husband and their youngest lived in Grants for awhile. It is surrounded by scenery but also alot of poverty. The Ancient Ways Cafe is a group of LGBT people that run a very small cafe with awesome coffee and food. l had a great chat with several locals and the owner. It made a nice break between hikes and brought back some good memories. Definitely recommend stopping if you are ever up this way.Leer más

  • Homolovi Ruins State Park

So just pulled in and wind is fierce. Ranger said it will calm down by sunset so will chill out and read until it does. supposed to have huge ruins to see.
So I was getting ready to go out and then noticed the horizon. Can you see the dust? Wind speeds are 36mph with gusts up to 45. Luckily only dust to lift off the ground.Does make a pretty sunset though.Leer más

So this is my first visit to a Kampgrounds of America. It is rather empty in the area I am in, I am not considered a full size RV But they have showers, water, electricity and are secure. I will base out of here for a few days. Many places to see around here.Leer más

  • Montezuma Well National Monument

    7 de marzo de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

This was rather unexpected and really a great walk. Of course there were once again 185 stairs. I am getting some good physical therapy on my lazy legs. There was this large spring and it had about 20 mallards on it. They come to eat the leeches that infest the water. Plus Beaver creek that it empties into was in flood stage from the snow melt so it was all really pretty. Well except the leeches in the jar that the ranger was sharing.Leer más
