Heute war also unser erster offizieller Tag in Kathmandu! Read more
Emily Embo English version part 1: As we walked out of the airport, many taxi drivers were waiting for us and made us overpriced offers. We sat down to the side and took a breath, when Lucas asked a man for the lighter, he asked if we needed a taxi. He made us a good offer and after the cigarette we went to the car. I can tell you without a doubt, the thing would never have got MOT, I was sitting in the back without a seatbelt and Lucas in the front next to the driver. I could see into my door as there was no door panel and don't get me started on the driving style. The driver starts talking on the phone and hands the phone to Lucas, telling us something but we only understand "your sister", later it turns out he thought I was Lucas' sister. At some point the driver looks at Lucas a little longer and smiles in love, "You're a handsome boy". Lucas was visibly confused as to what the driver was trying to achieve and I had to stifle a laugh. The drive took about 20 minutes and we gathered so many impressions that we just freshened up and showered at the hotel.
Emily Embo English version part 2: So today was our first official day in Kathmandu! We had a continental breakfast in our hotel, which was served on a pretty terrace full of plants. We strolled through Thamel, a pretty touristy district of Kathmandu, full of shops selling cachemire and yak wool. We visited some temples and gardens nearby, where some Nepalese people wanted to take pictures with us. For lunch (and for dinner) we ate momos, traditional Nepalese dumplings, they were delicious ! Then we went to the airport again, I finally got my backpack back ! Nothing was missing and I still don't know why it didn't pass the security check. We went out for a drink at night and ended up in a concert on the street, some Nepalese rap with a very big crowd! We think it was part of the new year celebration (the new year 2080 started on the 14th of April here). Now we're back at the hotel and we'll go to sleep soon, we just killed a HUGE cockroach in our room, hope it was the only one.
