Hallo Freunde,
Read more
Emily Embo English Version: Hi friends, We are at a rooftop bar now, enjoying a beer and the warm weather while writing this. Today, after having breakfast in our hotel room, we decided to explore Bhaktapur. We took a taxi to go there, it takes roughly 45min and costs about 7euros. The taxi rides were a bit crazy as per usual here, our driver honked 63 times! We explored a bit the old town, had a bubble tea to have a cool drink because it is pretty warm here (30 degrees, but it feels more bearable than when it is 30 degrees in France). Then we took a guided tour, with a friendly Nepali that explained all about the history of this town. Bhaktapur was the capital of Nepal from the 12th to the 15th century and today it is considered the cultural capital. It is situated at 1400 metres above sea level and is home to 100,000 people. The majority of the inhabitants are Hindus or Buddhists, they celebrate every festival with equal and full attention, regardless of religion. The Chyasali Mandapa (a pavilion) was destroyed by the earthquake in 1934, but Chancellor Helmut Kohl arranged for its reconstruction in 1987. A stone slab stands next to the pavilion and is engraved in German with this event. We also had a bash at pottery with a very cute old lady. Spoiler alert, we were not very good at it! We had some fried noodles and momos again to eat, and this took up most of our day. Tomorrow morning we'll go to our first Helpex in Nepal, we'll be taking care of dogs. We're a bit apprehensive about walking them, we'll let you know how this goes!
