      Wonder around Paris

      April 28 in France ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After breaky, went to the Musee d l'Orangerie (Museum of longery). Had a few minures of just Monet all to ourselves before the crowds started! Gold.

We were greeted by shiny happy people (REM song) - the some what typical grumpy French welcome to the museum.

After, we had cafe and croisaant at a cafe, then macaroon, then wondered to st. germain. Had nice lunch, then saw the st. chapel with the stained glass ceiling.

After we found a bar, drank, people watched, and made our way back to the hotel.

      Great day!

      Art Day

      June 16, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We had early morning tickets to see some art so after a lovely breakfast and good strong coffee we hit the bikes again and risked our lives in the Paris streets. We were 30 minutes late for our time slot but Aiden said it was very Parisian of us to be late. It didn’t matter anyway because no one even checked our tickets! (Note to self, just walk in like you belong there and save the dough!) Here’s where Daniel shined. He has read every Rick Riorden book on the planet and really knows his Greek and Roman gods. The Mona Lisa was in the new room which is nice considering the last time we were there she was in a dark hallway. I prefer the big art anyway over her. The Wedding at Cana is more my style.

Then Saint Chappelle- I heard Daniel walk in and say “whoa!” That says it all.

      The Lady and the Unicorn

      August 19, 2019 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Woke at 5.00am, so not too bad. Breaky in hotel. The bread is devine. Salami and cheeses.

Off to Musee du Cluny to see the medieval tapestries The Lady and The Unicorn. They depict the 5 senses along with desire. Massive red and dark wall hangings filled with millefleur and forest animals. Loved this so much. Read the novel and it's Harry Potters common room. So beautiful. The lighting is dark to keep from fading.

We get to the museum just at opening time, bonus.
The first room we enter is an old bath house. Massive empty room with a few statues and items from the era. A copper bathtub sits at one end. Loved this room. Next we check out a room full of jewellery and medieval artwork. I come across a golden rose. It looks to be important, so I take a photo. I may sit still one day and learn about it. But not now.

We look at other tapestries leaving the best til last.
Then we enter 'The' room. It is quiet, dark, black with a crimson glow from these magnificent tapestries.
I am beguiled and take my time to investigate each one.

Loving this so much. Finding treasures that you never think you will ever see. Then here you are in front of them. Always blows me away.
I love this because it is like time travel.
I imagine the pressure and artistry it takes.

The intricate flowers are devine. The bunnies and birds whimsical.

Even Athena says she really enjoyed seeing them.

      Bucket list tick ✅

      PARIS

      April 27 in France ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Paris - city of love and Morris' birthplace.

      4.26
After being on a bus for the last 2 weeks, we arrive in Paris and sadly say goodbyes to our Belgium Bus Driver, Hilda. The Hotel Tourism was a great find by Rick Steves. Wonderful breakfast and, oh la la, the warmed toliet seat with all the high-tech buttons is a plus.

Headed out to Rue Cler Street for lunch, where we took in the Paris vibe. Quite the change from the liveliness and hand talking of Italy to the quiet lovely civility of France. Interesting to note the chairs of the cafes facing outward so they can people watch as they sip and enjoy their coffee.

Afternoon walking tour with our local guide past the Parliment building as she explained the history of Paris. As we continued along the Seine River, you can feel the buzz in the air as Paris is getting ready to host the Summer Olympics 2024. Lots of preparation around town can be seen.

Continued to the Royal Palace, where Marie Antoinette was held during the French Revolution until her execution in 1792. The Palace also houses Sainte Chapelle built in the 13th century to house the relic of Christ: Crown of Throns. The massive 15 stain glass panes relate scenes from the Old and New Testament. From the outside, the panes look black, but inside with the light coming through, you see them in full color. It was truly spectacular to see.

      4.27
Early start on the Metro this morning as we are off to the national art museum of Paris, The Louvre. The palace is home to some of the world's most iconic pieces, paintings, and sculptures, including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory. So much to see!

One of our favorite surprises was watching as an art student in The Louvre was painting a duplicate of a masterpiece.

Later, we took a riverboat down the Seine as we went past that Effial Tower and Notre Dame. (The front facade has been cleaned and restored, and the back that was burned down still under restoration with completion scheduled for the end of this year.

This was our last night with our tour group. We had a night walk through Paris and a lovely group dinner as we sadly said our goodbyes.

      4. 28
Roy and Monika (friends we made from Canada) and Morris went out today to explore the Arc de Triumph (climbing to the top for a fantastic view) and Montmartre,
with its cobbled streets, stunning white Basilica on the hill, artists, bistros ... Montmartre is full of charm! Also saw the square bldg. What a contrast between old and new.

Packed up to head home after enjoying a lovely dinner evening.

      Schlechter start mit....

      October 25, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

      grandiosem Ende 🥰😁

      Another Day

      July 26, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Met up with Olivier and his family at Daon ( he was our French live aboard neighbour at Pruille. ). A lively port with many children from the next door campground enjoying the river in various ways. On to Chateau Gonthier which is a larger town of 20,,000 centred around agriculture . Lovely berth in spacious area of the old town . - feels like being in Paris at the Pont Neuf. Port Captain Christian a jovial and helpful man. Fuel for boat, and Supermarket too far to walk for food, beer and wine so we hired a buggy which worked fine behind the bike . À bientôt 🇫🇷Read more
