  • Flamingos des Celestún

    7. mars 2021, Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

From our location in Progreso it was a 2 hour drive to Celestún. We have heard the best place to watch flamingos. The last hour of the drive is just a boring straight street which no navigation system knows anymore... Once arrived we rented a boat and drove 20 minutes to the place where the flamingos are located. The best time is from December to March where nearly 35000 flamingos are in this area. The most beautiful thing is when they start flying. On the way back we drove trough Mangroves. All in all a great experience and we were happy that no other Tourists were around. We can imagine how busy this place is normally when we saw the sum of all boats. To visit the flamingos alone with no other boats made the trip perfect.Les mer

  • Pink seas at Las Colorades

    13. mars 2021, Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

A salt company and special bacteria in the water makes the sea pink. Only on 3 places in the world. Next to Yucatán in Australia and France. We were told that the bacteria came from a meteroid. Not a must seen place... But glad anyway that we saw it😊Les mer

  • Attitlan Lake

    26. mars 2021, Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Visited Attitlan Lake for a few days. From Santa Catarina de Polopo we saw all surrounded Vulcanos. Special was that we visited our new Friends Nicole and Fabrice from Switzerland which we met first on Vulcano Acatenango. Together we booked a cooking class in San Pedro which was very intressting since we learned next to the Guatemala kitchen also about local situations and circumstances.Les mer

  • Once in a Lifetime Hike to Acatenango

    26. mars 2021, Guatemala ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

Here is the full video documentation: https://youtu.be/05cZapAj7Lg

Once arrived in Antigua we learned that it is possible to hike to Vulcano Acatenango but the wrote it was a really hard hike. Anyway it was so hard in our heads to do it and we learned that it is even possible to sleep in a tent up on the Vulcano. So we booked a tour and were really not sure if we can make it and to do it with our 6 years old kid. We were told that it is a 10 km hike but we were hiking in the swiss alps 15 km and more with our son before, so we decided to do it!!

Once arived at the start point of 2354 Meter on a farm we saw the top and we really first understood what we booked. The Hike is up to nearly 4000 Meter and you have to go trough different Zones of Lands, Rainforrest, Stone desserts. So we decided together with the tour Guide that we will rent a horse for our son since it would not be possible withou. The horse cannot go the whole hike but the first 60%

So we started and after 2 km we now really really understood what we booked. It was so steep, loose ground, stairs - 2 steps up - one back - Air getting more and more less. We had to stop every 50 meter to take a breath.

The Hike was 5 hours that way and we arrived on the Basis at 3823 Meter. The last 3 km our son has to walk with us since the horse was not able to walk anymore. We were so happy to arrived but also a bit dissapointed because after some minutes where we can see the Fuego which is the active partner Vulcano it was cloudy and foggy and we could not see the Fuego anymore. So we builded up the tent - made a fire and eat the a soup which the guide made for us. The clouds went not away and we were so tired, so that we decided to go to sleep at 9pm and Alexa and me will wake up at 12pm again and check if the fog and clouds may have gone. We set up the clock but we woke up earlier since we heard a big crash outside and - BAAAAMMM!! We went out of the tent - Full nightsky and a vulcano with full of Lava in Front of us exploding nearly every 10 Minutes. Alexa and me were sitting there next to the fire and watch 3 and half hours the full explosions. It was really really cold outside but it was so amazing to see vulcaono exolding and the Lava going down. A Lifetime experience for us!

At 4am it was planned that we go up to the really top on near to 4000 meter to see the sunrise. Again we had to learn that it is another 1,5 hour hike and it was completly dark. Our Son woke up by himself and we all get Flashlights on our heads. Again the same - Taking a breath every 50 Meters and the feet already hurts from the day hike before. But at 5.30 am we were up on the Top.

To be honest the sunset was not even that beautiful and it was cold, maybe even to cold. The ground was frozen and we decided really fast to go down again to the campfire. We were told that our son was the first 6 years old kid up there from the guide..

After a breakfast and unbuilding the tent we started to go down again and even forgot that this will be another 12 km hike only down.... We arrived at 3 pm in the hotel and we all had a hard long sleep - only a short break for dinner and sleep again.

This was the Hike of our Life - Hard to find a better Hike like this forever ...

  • Explored Erupted Pakaya Vulcano

    1. april 2021, Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

10 das ago Volcano Pakaya Erupted and the dust was that much that even the airport had to close. Via Connections we learned that it is possible again to go there and we went directly into the car and drove there together with Nicole and Fabrice. We came so close to the still flowing Lava but it is nearly not possible to be near in front of it because it is so hot. We were told that the area were we walked will be gone the day after. We walked around and were mind blowed about the still blowing dusty Vulcano. Still happy that we were that close and a great experience😊Les mer

  • Arrived at Panama

    13. april 2021, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Didn't saw a lot yet but what we can say is that Panama City is the most modern city we saw in Central America. To be honest it was remembering us even a bit on Dubais skyline which we know really good. We are living in a beautiful house in old Town in Casco Vjejo and learned that the house was earlier owned by one of the fathers of the republic - Don Thomas Aries. It has an amazing rooftop with view to the panama canal. It was only thought as a stay to get started in Panama but it is even already more now and we think 3 nights are really not enough. But we will come back at the end of the roundtrip😊Les mer

  • El Valle de Anton

    17. april 2021, Panama ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

Today was our first real excursion in Panama TO El Valle de Antón. A small town located in a crater of a vulcano. We spend some time in the town and then went up to hills to have an overview round the hole valley. The temperature was still fine but the hole day was cloudy and we had to wait a bit until we saw the whole view. Since it was only a stop on our way to the north it was pretty cool to have a day like this.Les mer

  • Boquete

    19. april 2021, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

From San Carlos we drove to Boquete and we were suprised about the temprature and hard rain which was coming down at the Boarder of Boquete since we had the whole day sun. This repeated every day. Outside Boquete we had 33 dregress with sun and drving home, Boquete welcomed us with hard rain and minus 10 degress then before. We learned that Boquete is even famous for that. Anyway we found our adventures like Sliding down a Waterfall at Cuesta die Pedra or searching for the Quetzal bird which is hard to find.

I created only one video for Panama which can be found here: https://www.freylights.com/our-travels/a-hike-a…

  • Bocas del Toro

    22. april 2021, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Bocas del Toro was earlier the reason that we even decided to come to Panama. After a long long drive on bad Roads (which are under Construction) and a 30 minute Boat Drive we arrived in Bocas and reached finally the caribic again. Funny was that our house in the middle of the ocean was only reachable per Boat and it is only one hour away from our very first House in the South of Costa Rica. It was the most relaxing time and direct under the house in a small riff there were so many beautiful fishes, so that this was our Main Activity. The boat asked everyday if we would join to the Town. If not we were just alone! One day we took the boat and drove to the famous Playa Estrella also called "Starfish Beach". Since tourism is less then 10 percent we spended hours there nearly alone. Never saw before that mayn and that big sea Stars.Les mer

  • Hike on Mount Pichahos

    27. april 2021, Panama ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

On the way back from bocas we found in instagram a Hike near Ola. We hired a guide and went up to the Mountain on a narrow Path. Again we had to climb also and were glad that our son is even used to it after these 4 Month. The guide said he saw big man Crying on that Mountain and he just went up singing and dancing on the TOP :-D We are so glad that we can do such adventures with him

  • Zion our Favorite but full

    19. mai 2021, Forente stater ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

The Zion national Park is one of our favorites but unfortunately this year really full of people. It was not that great since you can not explore something without any other people and the prices just tripped the last 3 month. Tried to rent ebikes but 300 dollar a day was too much for us. All Campgrounds were full so we slept on a parking area..Les mer
