    Day 8b. Bad Zwischenahn.

    August 12, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Horst, Carola, Ron and I walked back through the township of Bad Zwischenahn. Horst bought local produce including cheeses, Leberwurst, dark bread and ham. We looked at the seafood in Brunns Aale established since 1876 specialising in smoked eel and salmon.
I was interested in the hymn books in St John’s Lutheran Church because my family attended the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Flinders Street, Adelaide which conducted services in German.
We had lunch at Spieker Ammerländer Bauernhaus famous for its eel, fried potato and Vollkorn bread.

Day 8d. Bad Zwischenahn. Eel Meal.

    August 12, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Eating smoked eel was a fascinating meal. I remember eating smoked eel as a child. My parents would buy it from the city market.
We ate 2 smoked eels each. Horst showed us the process of breaking off the head then peeling off the skin and using your hands to bite the meat off the bones. It was delicious. Each eel cost between 13 and 17 Euros depending on its weight.
At the end of the meal the restaurant owner poured a cheap schnapps over our hands to wash them.

    Ankunft in Dresden

    June 28, 2018 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Read more
