Eltmann am MainAugust 9, 2016 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C
We headed East, preparing to meet Vicky's brother Ali and his friend Tom in Prague later in the month.
Needing a convenient stopover close to the motorway, we found that one had been taken over by a casino car park so carried on to Eltmann and were stunned to find a riverside car park overlooked by a quiet terrace bar close to a lovely little town. We ended up staying 3 nights!
The owners of the terrace bar were so welcoming when we went for an evening beer that we went back the next day for lunch. We found a store in town that reminded us so much of our 'sell it all' store (Alans) back in Netherton that we nicknamed it German Alans.
On the second day Vicky was busy outside when she heard a voice say 'hiya'. It was only after a second 'hiya' that it filtered through that Germans say 'hallo' and so the salutation was most likely directed at her. Alison and Phil were the first English people we'd met in weeks and it was great to be able to chat with them without having to use great effort to formulate the words we needed to use first! They'd been touring Germany for years and gave us some great advice and tips about places to go. Motorhomers have ecclectic tastes but Alison and Phil seemed to like to tour similarly to the way we do and it was great to find we had similar views on a range of things. All in all it was super to be able to run in to them!
The last night got down to 8°C outside and rewarded us with a beautiful mist covered river the following morning with cloud hanging low over the tree clad hillsides above the town.Read more
