Encore une fois je ne suis pas déçue par les recommandations qu'on me fait ! Jamais j'aurais trouvé cet endroit seule et pourtant c'est une pépite !
Encore un bled archi vieux et pittoresque bien conservé ~
Entourée par des remparts, la vieille ville a un charme incroyable, surtout avec le petit rayon de soleil qui va bien. Comme y a pas trop de monde les gens font attention les uns aux autres, ça fait plaisir
Très en fleur, la ville dégage un doux parfum. Je me balade sur les remparts avant de repartir et je découvre un point de vue intéressant et inspirant ~Read more

Après midi passé à la piscine de Rothenburg.
Bien que l’eau était fraîche, on s’est bien amusé. 🏊🏼‍♂️
On a appris le virage de natation professionnelle, mais on le maîtrise pas à 100%. 🫢

Arrêt improvisé dans ce joli village. Comme c’est la période, nous avons flâner dans le marché de noël.
Une bonne schnitzel pour le dîner !
Nous avons aussi goûté à la spécialité origine de ce village : une schneeball.
Nous avons aussi eu droit à un petit concert de chants de noël.
Bien que les températures soient glaciales, on n’est pas encore congelés. 😅Read more

Rotenburg ob der Tauber - wie schön

Leider erst bei Sonneuntergang angekommen. Es dauerte doch wie immer eine ganze Weile, bis wir wegkamen. Rotenburg fasziniert mich immer wieder und wir haben auch ganz gut zu dritt im Wohnmobil geschlafen ich mit Tom unter dem Dach. Vormittags, bevor wir losfahren wollten, ist uns eine Frau ins Wohnmobil gefahren und hat Fahrerflucht begangen hat. Zum Glück hat sie nicht allzu großen Schaden angerichtet, dass wir nach losfahren konnten aber das war schon der Hammer, mitten am Tag in so einer belebten Straße Fahrerflucht zu begehen. Bin gespannt, ob man sie findet es gab nämlich eine Zeugin, die gesehen hat wie sie weggefahren ist.Read more

Schneeballen und Kaffee

These schneeballen (snowballs) are famous in winter here in Rothenburg. This one is covered in powdered sugar. Not sweet on the inside. Actually I’m grateful for the coffee as it is also a little dry. Comes also chocolate covered and cinnamon. And various nuts. The ball is made up of pie crust wrapped up and then fried.Read more

I bought an ear warmer that just goes around my head. Not needed anything else. Tonight I’m going to a special dinner and will walk. I will add my heavier coat. I’ve been fine with just my puffy so far. I suspect it will snow tonight.

Rothenberg ob der Tauber

Well preserved medieval town in the Franconia region of Bavaria. The town is located on a bluff high above the river Tauber. It is also a few hundred meters from where 2 major medieval trade routes crossed. The original castle was built up on the bluff in the 11th century but was destroyed by an earthquake in the 14th Century. The last picture is of the Castle Gardens located on the former castle site.
The 1st picture is of the market square. The 2nd is also on the square but catches the glockenspiel on the hour that remembers the legend that tells of the mayor (in the right hand window) during the 30 years war who chugged a gallon of wine to get the general (in the other window) to defend the city.
Rothenburg o d T has one of the few in tact (restored) city walls. The 3rd picture looks along the covered walkway on the wall. The 4th picture was taken from the top of a tower along the city wall. You can see the wall with it's covered walkway.

Vegetables?

I have no idea on the German food front, where the vegetables went? I haven’t seen a green veg in days. Come to think of it there is no salt and pepper and ketchup comes only in little packets. However on the other hand they are very concerned about my food allergies and they charge my 1 euro for every glass of tap water.

End result. I’m thirsty and might be getting scurvy.Read more

I heard there is enough vitamin C in catchup to prevent scurvy, also just ask for a lemon in your G&T.....

G&T isn’t a good idea. I tried it and it was 10 euros for the gin and 10 euro for the tonic. Haufbrau is 5.50. I went with the beer next time.

Um ca 13 Uhr von zu Hause los, Fahrt begonnen mit Jan Delays "Straße", großartig, Stimmung super:"wir sind wieder auf der Straße" 🎶🎼 ...
Gegen 18:30 in Rothenburg erwartet uns der skurrile, dann aber doch ganz lustige Wirt (Typ Biker) vom Gasthof "Zur Linde". Er besteht drauf: "erst Zimmer angucken, dann entscheiden ob ihr bleibt"! Oha, was mich wohl erwartet .... Ich flitze also hoch (Lars wartet eh im Auto), kurzer Blick ins Zimmer, klein, einfach, sauber, passt! "Warum"? möchte ich vom Biker-Wirt wissen. "Ganz einfach, weil ich keinen Bock habe, mir morgen früh Gemaule anzuhören! also darum, erst gucken, dann entscheiden"! Damit hat er mich, diesen Humor kann ich gut einordnen und wir kommunizieren dann total locker und nur noch auf der Du-Ebene 👍! Ein einfaches Hotel mit Frühstück, für eine Nacht völlig ausreichend! Klamotten aufs Zimmer, Restaurant gesucht, kleiner Bummel durch Rothenburg und ziemlich erschöpft ins Bett! Fahrt begonnen mit Jan Delays "Straße", großartig, Stimmung super!Read more

St. Jakob Church, Rothenberg

St. Jacob's is the main church in Rothenberg ob der Tauber (see another post). This church is known for its extensive and fine wood carving. Building began in the 14th century and continued into the 15th. This is also a church on one of the many pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
The 1st picture is of the nave, looking toward the main altar, and the 2nd is a detail of that altar known as the Twelve Apostles Altar. Also, the wings of the altar depict the way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela.
The 3rd picture is in a side chapel. The 4th picture is the pulpit. (This preacher couldn't resist.). The 5th picture is another chapel, located upstairs from the nave.
The altar in the 5th picture is famous as it is said to have a drop of the blood of Jesus, making this a significant pilgrimage site in its own right.
The last picture is called Christmas Boat and is a traditional carving in ebony from Tanzania. It is a gift from a partner church there.Read more

A walled city. Easy walking around but chilly. It snowed last night here but it’s all melted.

The house has a grain loft. In a walled city, it was important that every home had a stock of enough grain to feed itself for a year. If the invaders blocked off all supplies the town wouldn't starve. These types of lofts are all around the city.Read more
