  • Pan Africa Prelube Zanzibar (Spice Tour)

    25. kesäkuuta 2022, Tansania ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today, we started with a SPICE TOUR at a local spice farm. I was not super excited when we headed out there, but as the tour went on, I started to get into it. We had the opportunity to either taste, smell, or eat a wide variety of spices and fruits.

We started with a red hairy looking bud about the size of a walnut, it was called a Lipstick spice, that if you mashed the seeds inside, it is used as lipstick or the dot on your forehead in India. Next it was turmeric, a yellow spice used for cosmetics as well as dietary functions. Others were lemon grass used for tea and cooking. Also tamarind, Cardamom, curry leaf, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, chili peppers, and ginger.

They also grow yams and sweet potatoes, almonds, star fruit, various citrus fruits, coconuts . . . and for other products, they grow bamboo and Teak. Most of this is not natural to Zanzibar, but due to its ideal climate, it all grows very well here.

We walked around for well over an hour, and it was a very interesting tour. Our guides were very informative, and would pick and prepare each for us to smell, taste, or totally eat. A really great tour.

  • Zanzibar H3

    25. kesäkuuta 2022, Tansania ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Looking at their FB group, it appears there was a Zanzibar H3 from 2016-2019. Not sure if COVID took the wind out of their sails, or some other reason. We had about 25 hashers invade the island for a PAN AFRICA HASH prelube event, and resurrected the ZH3 for the day.

Starting from the Voi resort on the eastern side of the island, our 5 km trail made its way through many narrow shiggy dirt trails, on its way down to the beach. From there it was fun in the sun until reaching the over ocean bar for a beer check with a view. We then finished up along the beach back to the resort, and had a lively circle with tons of laughs. A great day hashing in Tanzania.

  • Dar es Salaam H3 #2064

    27. kesäkuuta 2022, Tansania ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

After 3 days out on Zanzibar as part of this pre-amble to Pan Africa Hash, today we took the high speed ferry to Dar es Salaam. Getting out of the port was a mad house, but finally we got all the luggage sorted and on the bus, and off we went for the near hour long drive to the hotel. We actually drove right past the start point for the hash, so helped give me an indication of how far back we needed to go.

After we were all checked in at the hotel, we gathered up about 10 in our group, and loaded up in taxis for the 20 minute ride back to the start. There were about 20 local hashers that turned up, so about 30 on trail, with 10 runners and 20 walkers on separate tracks.

Trail was all set in paper, we ran about 7 kms through many back streets, all dirt, and crossed a few open lots and ran around one pond to the beer check. We finished back at the same point for an A to A trail, with circle out on a hotel pool deck. Everyone was super friendly, so it was all very pleasant.

Circle was pretty rowdy, with lots of yelling and private chatter, which made it hard to hear some of the activity, but it was all fun. Cost was 20,000 shillings ($8.50 US), which provided plenty of beer, and then after circle . . . they fed us as well. There were a couple birthdays, so we even had cake to top it off. What a deal. All in all, it was a great outing with the Dar Hash.

Well fellow DST Hashers, it has been 10 years since I last posted the trail details . . . but Dutchy has managed to dump the burden back on my shoulders this week . . . so here goes.

Cunning Linguist was our hare for the day, and he did not have the common damn courtesy to show up on time. 😊 As 17 hashers anxiously gathered, we had to wait an additional 8 minutes while our hare ate an ice cream cone, or some such silliness, while we all waited. Once finally on trail, we had a totally enjoyable 8+ kms of joy.

For those reading this jumble of hash droppings, if you have never hashed outside of Germany, or Central Europe for that matter, you may not realize how good you have it. This trail was a perfect example of why hashing in Stuttgart is some of the best hashing worldwide. All the twists and turns, the dirt tracks, and tiny paths between properties, and all that goes with it, was purely magical. But most of us are still wondering what the hell was that X (false trail) set, shortly after the reported hare sighting? A scared hare making every attempt to not be caught? A scared hare running for his life? Or a simple ooops, WTF did I just do? Only CL can tell us the tale. And this ties into the delusions of grandeur of one hasher who’s name will remain anonymous, who claimed to have CAUGHT THE HARE, yet it was only a sighting . . . just like those old fishing yarns about “the one that got away” . . . seeing the hare is NOT snaring the hare. Anyway, in the end, we all eventually made it back to the parking garage, and then on to the On On On . . . for some most excellent Asian Cuisine. A great day on trail, and a great day with good friends.

We had three FIVERS on this trail . . . Too Wet with 15, Hold My Weiner with 30, and the big winner today was 10-R Bleibt with 90. Get a fricking life already.

We then had a review of this coming week of hash events, the RED DRESS RUN on Thursday, the thing-a-ma-jig going on this weekend, could be German Nash Hash or some such nonsense, and some boat ride next Monday . . . BORING. The next DST hash will be the next big event (although there is some little kerfuffle about the numbering . . . 665 or 666a [the real 666 is on 19 July]), so keep your eyes peeled to the website or this email list for the details. GET SOME!!!

  • Stuttgart H3 - Red Dress Run

    7. heinäkuuta 2022, Saksa ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

It was a day in praise of the boobies, the tatas, melons, titties, jugs, bosoms, casabas, bazooms, knockers, bubbies, gazongas, headlamps, sweater stretchers, and a few other terms that should maybe remain nameless . . . and since this can affect men as well . . . MOOBS.

We gathered in Marienplatz for a nip of strawberry margarites to get warmed up, but once a quorum was achieved, and the proper time reached . . . we were off in search of donations, for our cause of praise. Passing out pink ribbons, pamphlets, and even instructions on how to properly massage them, many people on the streets were more than happy to join us in praise. The “cans” filled up, and we collected a fair bit of change as well.

The hares managed to drag us around town for a bit over 8 kms, but it was well worth it for this great cause. Great job by the 30 or so hashers that turned up. Unfortunately, while I saw a lot of rubbing and flicking of nipples going on . . . I did not see one single boobie all evening. <insert sad face emoji here>

    German Nash Hash 2020

    no wait . . . 2021

    forget that, it was . . . 2022

This was another event many of us had been waiting for . . . for two years. It was so great to see so many old friends, and make so many new ones. The Stuttgart H3 pulled of a masterful show, from the Friday night meet and greet hash, to the Saturday Main Event, and the Sunday Hangover trail . . . everything moved like clockwork (and believe me, I have seen many events. This on was run with German efficiency). Friday night after registrations and dinner, we had a meet and greet hash, where the pack was split into four groups. Each group followed their own trails to the four drink stops, and the groups intermingled from time to time, so we got to chat with everyone. A festive evening of dancing and partying followed, but some of us went in for a good night’s sleep in anticipation of what was to come on Saturday.

The Main Event started with the Ball Breaker trail heading out at 9 am, for what was described as a 27 km extravaganza, and the runner’s trail was billed as 16 kms. For the first time in my life, I thought I was making a rational decision, that I would appreciate when I was done at 16K, but it did not turn out that way. As the BBers departed, I had a little tear in my eye, as I had never stayed behind and watched the group go . . . I was always in it.

So at 10 am, the runners took off, as did the walkers, and set out for a day of fun. We had some issues on the first part of the runner’s trail, as some of the checks had been brushed away by hikers, so as we got there, we spent a lot of time looking around until the hares arrived and sorted things out. After three points like this, I admit I was frustrated. My absolute favorite part of hashing is playing the game, breaking the checks, and finding the trail. Takes the fun out if when wander around aimlessly until the trail gets repaired. But after the beer stop, Cunning Linguist went out ahead and made sure all was well.

On the bright side, the runners and BBers merged at this point as well, so I did get to run the last 12 kms with them. In the end, BBers averaged about 22-23 Kms, and with all the extra searching, some of the runners still had 18-19 kms, so still not much difference. The trail was magnificent, one of the best I have run all year. Great job to all the hares. The party went on after the circle, for a great dinner, and renaissance faire, as we spent the weekend in a medieval castle. After all that, the dancing went on until 3 or 4 in the morning.

Fly the trail through the lovely German countryside . . . https://www.relive.cc/view/vrqokY5DkKq

Sunday was a leisurely hangover trail, followed by an even longer circle, where every sin from the weekend was rehashed for more down downs. . . . Frankfurt H3 will host GNH in 2023, and Hannover H3 was voted in to host in 2024. A lot more happened over the weekend, but if you want the full story, you’ll just have to attend the next one in person. Great job by mismanagement, and all the attendees for making this a super event. On ON.

Port and HKF took us on a sprint in the forest out near Panzer Kaserne. Starting from the Goldberg train station, trail took us basically straight up to a check back 8 (and photo stop), before heading back down and into the woods. We snaked our way over towards Panzer, only to head down the road to Waldheim Bildungsstätte. Turning left again, it was back into the woods for some more twists and turns on the way back to the station. An excellent 9km trail for a pack of 18 (and two little poochies), on a hot and sweaty evening.

At the on after, we were able to witness the rare occurrence of GM changeover for the DST H3. It had only happened once before back in 2012, when your (not always so humble) hash scribe passed over the reins to Dutchy, who has skillfully coordinated our weekly trails for the past 10 years. Now recently beginning our 14th year of hashing, the DST H3 has been placed in the capable hands of BAD SEX. As a little background . . . when I started the DST H3 back in 2009, my only focus was on the trail, as it remains today. Always a free hash, no need for a beer meister or hash cash. The GM’s responsibilities are mostly as a scribe to keep the roster, send out the weekly info, occasional haberdasher, and most of all . . . coordinator of hares. At the DST H3, the hares are the most important part, because without a trail, there is no hash. So best wishes to BAD SEX who may lead this hash for the next 10 more years.

Anyway, back to the trail . . . the fivers were . . . Five Star Blow Job with 40, Bend Over Barbi with 55, Boiled Blue Balls with 105, Hello Kitty F*cker with 145, Hazukashii with 150, Loan Moaner with 155 . . . but was any of that good enough? Hell No!! It was Dutchy’s 600th time to strap on his running shoes and join in with the DST H3 (and by god, he has hared 100 of those trails too, incredible) . . . Great Job Dutchy, thank you for your many years of friendship, and keeping this hash club alive for the past 10 years. You are amazing my friend.

It was a father / son combo (I Was His First and Just Jesse?) for this glorious trail down near Herrenberg. It was short, but made up for it in dangerous high speed highway crossings, as the hares put our lives at risk. There were about 22 on trail, and we had two visitors . . . one from Florida, via Israel, CLIT. The other dude was from Newcastle, UK region, and he was Slippery When Wet. Speaking of Wet, it was Too Wet that scampered in in front of everyone to be the FRB. One young harriette managed to drop a 50 euro note on trail . . . WTF were you doing carrying that much money on trail? Were you worried you may need to call a cab to get back? 😊 All in good fun though.

We finished quickly, and made our way across the street for last call of flammkuchen and bier, and sat around enjoying each other’s company. A quick circle was called by GM Photocopulator, that highlighted all the flaws for the hares, the hounds, and anything else that needed to be recognized. Once we all had our fill, many of the pack wandered over to the water tower, to climb up and watch the sunset. Isn’t she lovely . . . badobadadobadooo. Great time with great friends, Puking Cougar would be proud.

Well . . . the 666 has come and gone, and no human sacrifices were hauled to the alter . . . trail ended up being just under 10 Kms for most of the pack, no idea what Blue Moon was doing. 😊 The first third of the trail was all about being uplifting, showing the pack just how good they are. The middle was all about accentuating their current status, and the last third was to gently bringing them down from their fabulous high.

After all were accounted for, we meandered over to the local Mexican Restaurant for some nachos and cerveza, and all was right in the world. It was a special day for me, haring for the 666th time, coinciding with the 666th trail of the DST H3. Just a once in a lifetime sorta thing (and special thanks for Dutch Oven on the drink stop, and making the reservations). Also thanks for everyone coming out for this one, hope to see y’all again next summer.

  • 100 Days of hashing bliss

    26. heinäkuuta 2022, Yhdysvallat ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

What a trip that was, not that this Vagabond life has an end in sight. This was my fourth trip this year, with the first being a hash cruise in the Caribbean, then a quick flight down to Costa Rica to visit Ian Young. Next it was three weeks in the Middle East, with the first week in Dubai, the second in Doha, then the third week quarantined in a hotel in Doha with COVID.

This fourth trip started shortly after getting out of quarantine. I took the first flight out of Doha, back to Tampa, then four days later it was off to Barbados for the prelube hash cruise. Hashed in Barbados first, then on the cruise it was Grenada, St Kitts, Antigua, St Vincent, Dominica, and St Lucia. Then it was off to Trinidad for OUTERHASH and 8 straight days of hashing. Then a week in Guyana and Suriname, followed by an amazing week in Brazil (so far 18 hash trails). From Brazil, I flew in an A380 for the first time, into Doha, and then on to Israel for a week and another new hash club. From there, it was a week in Greece for the Athens H3 Corfu Island getaway. Next it was Thailand for a week of hashing, followed by another week in South Korea for the 50th Anniversary of hashing in Seoul. Then down to Kuala Lumpur for a week, before heading off for a preulube event in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A quick hop over to Kampala, Uganda for Pan Africa Hash, followed by 3 weeks in Germany including German Nash Hash, Aloha Beach Hash in Switzerland, and Bayern Nash Hash in Nuremburg. What a great trip . . . 20 countries, 54 hash runs, and a ton of laughs.

We had temperatures in the mid 90s all day, but by hash time the temps had dipped down to a modest 88 degrees . . . and it was damn humid. A pack of about 15 set off in chase of the hare (Hazukashii) up in the Cypress Lakes area north of the Horse Race Track. It appears that there had been much rain in the area recently, as the pack was treated to several large puddles along this nearly 6 mile trail . . . which left plenty of wet feet by trail’s end. When not running through water, the trail was going around water, in the form of several large ponds (or small lakes if you prefer).

Making its way into the forest after the walker/runner split, trail dashed around the first lake and along the powerlines, hopscotching a few puddles and around a fence into the back end of the industrial zone. Then it scampered through some old parking lots, before cutting behind some buildings and around another lake. Passing through Westchester, the pack was delighted to find a beer check . . . followed by a lap around another small pond. Finally crossing the road again, the pack soon found the long 100 meters plus of ankle deep rainwater before turning right and heading down the powerlines and back to the meeting point.

Peas on my Face led a robust circle of misfit children, passing out down downs like it was Christmastime. We had two long lost returns on hand in Pussy on Pops Sickle (POPS) and Mr. Bigglesworth. We also had a couple visitors, and the rest of the usual delinquents. HPV was the FRB as the walkers and runners mingled their way in together, and On-Ahead managed to drive her way to being the FBI. Good times in the hot and muggy Florida western coast . . . in summer. And that’s no bullshit . . . On On. 😊

Its nice to be back in Florida, it gives me a chance to catch up with many old friends. Yesterday I got to sneak over for a trail with the Other Orlando H3, and why is it called the “Other” Orlando H3 and not just the Orlando H3 you may ask? Well, that is a long story, but making it short . . . there once was an Orlando H3, which is now only a memory, and the Other Orlando H3 continues on as that group of hashers that had another idea.

Anyway, had a fun, nearly 5 mile A to B track through town. One of the hares got named . . . Pull Out or Pull Over. PO-PO for short, which seems to be fitting in this case. That makes three hash trails this past week in Florida, but tomorrow I am headed north to enjoy some longer days, and find some new trails in New England.
