  • Yellowstone National Park Day 1

    24 de julho de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Got an early start at the North-East Gate, and it did not take long to see some exciting wildlife (we’ll just call this a North American Safari). Within the first 30 minutes had already seen a red fox, a bear, dozens of Bison, 3 wolves, and a couple Prong Horn Antelope. There were a few spots of construction where the road had been repaired after some pretty significant flooding. Turned off to see a petrified tree that was still upright, then hiked down to see a suspension bridge over some rapids. From there it was off to Mammoth Hot Springs for lunch and a long walk around the springs. Finished up the day headed out to Roosevelt Arch in Gardiner, MT.

  • Yellowstone National Park Day 2

    25 de julho de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Today started with a hike up to Bunsen’s Peak (12 kms), with some great views. Could even see the top of Mammoth Hot Springs in the distance. https://www.relive.cc/view/vevYQ8wZ8Jv

Of particular note, the scars of past forest fires are present throughout, as you can see in the pictures . . . all the downed trees. Looking back at my first visit to Yellowstone in 1990, I could still see the very recent damage caused by one of the biggest burn years ever in Yellowstone, in 1988. https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/1988-fire…

Next, it was a return to Norris Geyser Basin . . . 33 years later. While it was still interesting to see, it was a shadow of its former glory. There have been thousands of small earthquakes underground, which caused many changes to the underground venting. Most of the amazing colors and venting have now disappeared. https://www.relive.cc/view/vE6Jn8rjLx6 (I found a few older pictures on the internet, that shows more clearly the way I saw it back in 1990).

Then spent the night in West Yellowstone, MT.

  • Yellowstone National Park Day 3

    26 de julho de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Today was all about the water . . . rivers, cisterns, lakes, geysers . . . and Old Faithful.

After a good evening in West Yellowstone, Montana, it was back into Wyoming first thing to check out some of the more visited areas. As you might expect, these areas were much more crowded than up in the northern parts of the park. First it was a hike around the Grand Prismatic Springs. This area now has the vivid colors that I saw in Porcelain Basin 33 years ago. Very nice. https://www.relive.cc/view/vRO783pYEK6

Then it was down the road to the Biscuit Basin, and a nice hike up on the Mystic Loop trail to see the Mystic Falls. More beautiful colors and great views. https://www.relive.cc/view/vZqNLpJdx3O

Then the big one . . . Old Faithful. This area has really expanded over the past 33 years, and Old Faithful is still faithful, but a little longer on the release. Every major earthquake in the region effects the underground fissures, and that effects how long it takes Old Faithful to erupt. As I recall, it was about every 69-70 minutes in 1990, now it is just over every 90 minutes. But it went off as projected, and it was still pretty amazing. Driving down around Yellowstone Lake and staying out the East Gate tonight. Another fabulous day.

  • Yellowstone National Park Day 4

    28 de julho de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

After another long day yesterday, it was a nice drive out the East Gate. Not much in attractions, but the views were amazing. Got some photos on the drive back in this morning. It has lots of scars from previous forest fires . . . but it also shows the wonder and beauty of nature. While the old burned trees still stand, a whole new forest is growing up underneath.

Exiting Yellowstone, it was only a short drive down to Grand Teton National Park. The major Only thing to see for this park is the mountains on the other side of the lake, so got some good snaps. Then spent the night in Jackson, WY.

  • German Nash Hash 2023

    5 de agosto de 2023, Alemanha ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

The venue was on a hill top near Oberwesel, about an hour west of Frankfurt, and was hosted by the Frankfurt H3. Overall, a very well done affair. Great venue, excellent trails, fun pack and circles. Very nice. Check-In started at 1600 on Friday, but many were there early to take in the surroundings and get in a beer or two while we waited. Rego was more on hash time, than what you might expect from a German event, but all in all, once things go rolling, all was well. Friday evening was less a pub crawl, more a scattered gaggle, as we wandered around the venue getting to chat with our fellow hashers. Then the music started, and dancing lasted well into the morning. I went to bed early, knowing that rest would be a good thing before the ball buster trail on Saturday.

Saturday, we were up and ready . . . with the ball buster trail first to go. We had an exceptionally large pack, close to 100 I would guess. Trail ended up being over 25 kms with nearly 1000 meters of elevation. After lunch, it was slow going, as my knees were in a great deal of discomfort on the final 6 km stretch. A good night's rest, and a couple Advil in the morning, and I was right as rain for the hangover trail.

The hangover trail was a short 4 kms, up over the hilltop near the venue. It was a nice weekend with great friends.

C.R.A.P. H3 will host in 2024 (registration opens on 30 August), and a vote was taken with Munich H3 winning to host in 2025.

Another excellent DST H3 trail, in the northern edge of Stuttgart. Always great to be back in Germany, and especially Stuttgart. We had over 20 hashers on hand to scamper around this 7.5 Km trail on a rather cool evening for August. Trail included a good mix of stairs and trails, and we followed it up with good food. Nice seeing so many friends. Tschus . . . until next time. On OnLeia mais

  • Irish Nash Hash 2023 - Main Event

    12 de agosto de 2023, Irlanda do Norte ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Although I muled the flour for Cockatool on Friday, as we set all the trails (28 Kms worth), I did not think I could do it two days in a row. So I joined in with the Medium runners (15 kms), and off we went.

Trails were good for running, and the pack was all pretty fun and having a good time. At the final beer stop, we got poured on, but everyone was still having a good time.

We worked our way into the finish, where lunch was served, and the circle soon followed. Great fun with great friends.

  • Irish Nash Hash - Sunday Trails

    13 de agosto de 2023, Irlanda do Norte ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

We had an assortment of trails again today (ranging from 6 to 18 kms), for both walkers and runners . . . but in the end, hashers moved between groups as they all intermixed at the beer stops. We did see some sites along the way as well, including the site where the Titanic was built, right here in Belfast.

We ended trail at the same place we did on Friday, the Deer's Head. We quenched our thirst, and were served a good lunch. Then we had to say goodbye to all our friends.

Well done to Cockatool and the rest of the organizers. See all of you, and many of the other hashers next weekend at EUROHASH.

  • I Love Monday H3 #342

    14 de agosto de 2023, Irlanda ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

There were about 40 hashers on hand, half of them came down from Belfast as a postlube to Irish Nash Hash. It was a fast 7 Km city run, with several view points for some sort of historical item. Good fun trot through the city.

Circle was just as fast, with numerous songs and down downs. We wrapped things up and had dinner. Since it was a 1930 start, by this time it was after 2200, so back to crash (I have to be at the airport at 0430 tomorrow).

Farewell N. Ireland . . .and Ireland, it has been fun.

  • EUROHASH - Hangover Trail

    20 de agosto de 2023, Países Baixos ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

With bleary eyes and hoarse throats, we assembled one last time, in the early morning hours ( 1045 ), for one more trek.

Most of the mob simply waddled down to the ferry and crossed the river to the beer stop.

Then there were the goofballs that needed more miles, and ran the long trail . . . 10 Kms down and back on the river. Good times to say the least.

  • Asuncion H3 #44

    26 de agosto de 2023, Paraguai ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Returning to Paraguay for my third hash trail, it was a most beautiful day of sunny skies and warm breezes. A pack of 10 gathered at the American Bar PY for a pleasant city trail. I was a bit disappointed at the start, when the rest of the pack were all walkers . . . so rather than run by myself, I loosened the throttle, and mostly had a nice walk.

The trail was very well laid, and we had a few obstacles to negotiate, and there were several interesting sights to see. We even, for the first time in my nearly 40 years of hashing, followed trail through a hospital . . . in the back door, and right out the front. One of the funniest parts was right at the end, as we approached the finish, my Garmin watch clocked it at 9.5 kms . . . and for the Garmin users, you know we had a 10 km challenge this weekend. So rather than go back tomorrow for another 10 kms, I just made a loop and walked around the block to get that extra 500 meters. But as I looked back, half the pack had blindly followed me . . . there is a hash song for that you know.

We wrapped things up with dinner and a circle in the bar, and by this point, the warm sunny day had turned into the frozen tundra. I had to break away and head back to the hotel for a hot shower. Snug in my bed, I can fondly look back at another great day on the hash, On On.

  • Okinawa Prelube to OUTERAM 2023

    31 de agosto de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

A rather small pack of 7 gathered on the hilltop in Guatape for the prelube to this outcast event. Starting from the Hotel Santorini, Musick set an interesting trail through the various back alleyways of town with most of the trial being down hill. (all the uphill was just getting to the run start).
We finished on a boat, where our hare had arranged to bring in a couple cases of beer and a couple pizzas, as we watched the moon rise of the ridgeline overlooking the city. A wonderful evening that will foreshadow this weekend of fun.

  • OUTERAM 2023 – Main Event Start

    2 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We had a lot of rain in the morning, and considering the thunder and lighting, there was potential for a postponement to tomorrow . . . but the weather cleared up enough that we stayed on schedule. We gathered in the central park of Guatape at 1300 for hares away. After a quick chalk talk, I took off to set what was considered the ball buster trail (10+ Kms with the climb). Now there were several options, with one taking a tuktuk to the Rock and just climbing (Thanks for the Mammaries). Option 2 was getting a ride horseback along the way (Mu-sick & B-Flat). Option 3 was catching a tuktuk coming back (Candy Man, Candy Ass, Thanks FTM, Mu-Sick, PeePeePias). And of course the 2 of us that ran the whole thing (the hare and Victoria).Leia mais

  • OUTERAM 2023 – Main Event - The Climb

    2 de setembro de 2023, Colômbia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

There were plenty of steps just getting to the Rock, and once there it was over 650 to the top. After a couple beers on top, and some views, we headed back down. Everyone was claiming they were going to follow trail going back, but the tuktuk option prevailed, and only two hashers (Victoria & B-Flat) followed after the hare and ran back to town.Leia mais
