  • Latrabjarg bird cliffs

    Don't know who put it so far away and on such awful roads, but the cliffs were awesome.

    Very dramatic and covered in birds. The real attraction is the number of Puffins, but being early in the year I managed to spot 3. Which is 3 more than some people who had left.

    As recommended by Jose, visited this pretty church, really good view from there.

    Couldn't get inside as it seems nothing happens in Iceland much before 12.

    The main thing I wanted to do today was to see the Glymur waterfall.

    It was a tough climb up and an adventurous hike, walking through a small cave, crossing the river on a log, and I was 'forced' to jump over the river above the waterfall as there wasn't any other way to cross (after walking all the way up, I wasn't just walking back down again). I jumped and performed a forward roll at the end in case anyone was judging, I would give it a 7 out of 10. The last picture is the gap I had to jump.

    Amazing views on the way up though, it's a beautiful waterfall, pictures probably wont do it justice.

    Staying just outside the capital, got some of the main things to see tomorrow then I drop off the car in the evening.

    Also, I'm going to Washington/Baltimore on Sunday (cheapest flight).

  • Washington wandering

    Generally wandered around the monuments, here's some day and night shots from today. Also wore shorts, which is quite a change from Iceland.

    There was a lot of construction stuff going on in Washington, and the White House had a tent in front of it...

    Also introducing Katie who is my new travel partner for the week, whether she likes it or not.

  • Arlington National Cemetary

    Visited the Arlington National Cemetary, it was cool to see how Americans treat their military it seems a much bigger thing here than in the UK.

    Saw JFK burial site and eternal flame (the only picture I took there on my phone apparently).

    Watched an over the top never ending changing of the guard where the one guy was acting and looked a bit like Agent Smith from the Matrix. Not like Americans to go over the top...

  • Still Alive... and watching baseball

    So... I'm not dead, but my phone is, which has meant I couldn't upload anything. Makes life difficult, but I'm working on a solution.

    In the mean time, I will slowly try and catch up...

    Today was Capitol building, Capitol library (which had maps, I like maps), but pictures on my phone...

    I also watched the Nationals lose at baseball with Katie, she is hooked now.

  • Independence Hall

    In Philadelphia looking at the beginning of the USA from all the way back in the 1730's! I can probably see things from my house that are older, but not the point I guess.

    It was cool to see and learn about the declaration of independence and the beloved constitution. However, if I can be serious for a moment (which I can do in short bursts),..

    It was interesting to see how proud Americans were of it, the guide would start a line from it and everybody else would finish it. In principle, what they were creating was great, a free country, run by the people where everyone was equal. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". The guide pointed out that this of course didn't include women. For me it also didn't include Native Americans or Black people. Things have changed since...

    But I also thought that there would have been people in that room, quoting that line, who would have voted for Donald Trump. So they can talk about treating everyone the same while wanting to kick out Mexicans and Muslims. Difference between knowing something and following it I guess.

    Rant over, Philadelphia also a little scary in places! Katie got her Philly Cheese Steak though. I'll pass.
