Change of plan

So it's snowing in the north/west and roads are closed, so change of plan and headed to Snaefellsjokull (try saying that when someone asks you where you've been today)
Church mountain

Church mountain on route. Noticed that taking a selfie flips the image... Pictures taken from the same place.
Beach weather

Beach on the way to a planned hike. Apart from the fact I was wearing 4 layers, it seemed Mediterranean.
Hike

This hike turned into 8 miles and 3.5 hours. Obviously didn't check the map scale.
But I did get to look inside a few volcano craters and walk across a lava field.
Hotel, slightly closer to the westfjords

Going to try and get into the westfjords again tomorrow. There is more snow forecast though.
Snowing in the westfjords again

Snowing in the westfjords again for a change, driving on some fresh snow, and saw a statue of a guy with possibly a hockey stick, they do like hockey.
Oldest steel ship in Iceland!

The oldest steel ship in Iceland, from way back in 1912! Then it got beached...
A worthy stop on the way.
Latrabjarg bird cliffs

Don't know who put it so far away and on such awful roads, but the cliffs were awesome.
Very dramatic and covered in birds. The real attraction is the number of Puffins, but being early in the year ILeggi altro
Ferry back south

Snow and time meant I couldn't get to the waterfall I wanted to see, and I couldn't find the natural hot spring, so... on the boat because enough of driving.
Hotel, not far from the library of water

Hotel for the night, had a good day today. Met some friendly people, particularly a couple of Canadians (are all Canadians friendly? What's that all aboot), and saw some cool stuff, had fun chillingLeggi altro
Stykkisholmur

However you read the place name in your head, it's probabaly wrong.
Didn't go to the water library, closed, but there was a Norwegian house (guess they like the colour black in Norway) and a churchLeggi altro
Borg a Myrum

As recommended by Jose, visited this pretty church, really good view from there.
Couldn't get inside as it seems nothing happens in Iceland much before 12.
Glymur

The main thing I wanted to do today was to see the Glymur waterfall.
It was a tough climb up and an adventurous hike, walking through a small cave, crossing the river on a log, and I was 'forced' toLeggi altro
More waterfalls, and fjord pictures.

The waterfall overshadowed the fact the fjord itself was pretty too. Don't know what these waterfalls were called, but stopped and went to see them anyway.
Hotel

Staying just outside the capital, got some of the main things to see tomorrow then I drop off the car in the evening.
Also, I'm going to Washington/Baltimore on Sunday (cheapest flight).
Thingvellir

This was where they used to hold parliment back in viking times and is also where you can see the continental plates slowly drifting apart, about 1 inch a year.
Geysir, home of the geysir

Geysir which apparently means 'the gusher' hasn't gushed for 60+ years, luckily there is another one there which is much more reliable.
Gulfoss

There was a lot of water going over these waterfalls, and a lot of tourists watching it.
Coming from being suprised you see another person all day, to being surrounded by Russian tourists is a bitLeggi altro
Last night in Iceland

Car has been returned, it was good to me.
Not much else I can do now without it. So that's all for Iceland (until next time).
Flight to the US is tomorrow afternoon, just going to relax and startLeggi altro
Made it to Washington

Day of travelling over.
I love the US, everybody is so friendly here!
Arrived as the sun was going down and met Chelsea (who was supposed to be running) who was really nice. She works inside theLeggi altro
National Air and Space Museum

Quickly ran around here, it was very good and I could have spent ages there, but it was sunny outside and lots to do.
Saw the actual Wright brothers plane, and some cool space stuff like the moduleLeggi altro
Washington wandering

Generally wandered around the monuments, here's some day and night shots from today. Also wore shorts, which is quite a change from Iceland.
There was a lot of construction stuff going on inLeggi altro
Arlington National Cemetary

Visited the Arlington National Cemetary, it was cool to see how Americans treat their military it seems a much bigger thing here than in the UK.
Saw JFK burial site and eternal flame (the onlyLeggi altro
Still Alive... and watching baseball

So... I'm not dead, but my phone is, which has meant I couldn't upload anything. Makes life difficult, but I'm working on a solution.
In the mean time, I will slowly try and catch up...
Today wasLeggi altro
Independence Hall

In Philadelphia looking at the beginning of the USA from all the way back in the 1730's! I can probably see things from my house that are older, but not the point I guess.
