🚐 95 miles from Kopasker to Porshofn 🌧️🌧️🌧️
Oh boy did it rain today! With little in the way of kitchen facilities at this campsite I sat in the front of the van to eat my yogurt and muesli. Followed by a banana and a cold coffee then some time sorting photographs and considering the next stage of our journey.
This involves much googling and campsite research. Google maps means being able to plot our course and consider the alternatives depending on the weather, the state of the road, things of interest en route.
As there were facilities to wash the van (!) Frank did a great job, in the rain, of cleaning off 12 days of muck.
And then I remembered I had vegetable preparation to do... which meant topping and tailing carrots and chopping up celery. We went on our way around lunchtime.
The oil spot - don't think it was ours - came up beautifully! The clean van alongside the washboard road AKA corrugated. Think bone shaker 🫤 very common around these parts where the gravel road gets formed into these ridges for MILES.
The sea is a sorter of objects and commonly across the North we have seen much driftwood on shore along with the buoys from fishing vessels .
I was very glad to find a post office having taken several days to buy stamps let alone write cards whilst on the road.
When we arrived in Porshofn we came across these whale skulls. Not quite identified which whale yet.
Then out beyond to the beach beside the Norwegian Sea (?) where the vet thought Icelandic horses and sheep thrive. Somehow.
Did quite a bit of bird spotting today too, learning about the behaviour and migration patterns. Eg the Rednecked Phalarope, sits in shallow water and spins in tight circles, repeatedly, to create a vortex which pulls up the food it wants to eat 😨
