The sight of the apocalypse - what an incredible view. Megiddo is a hill that at least 30 different groups or civilisations have built on. From the top you can see to the east and west of the country.

Megiddo was so important because it was atop the very important trade route - if you control Megiddo, you are rich. But as always, with the money, comes enemies. Many battles took place in the valley and on Megiddo.

The water source from Megiddo is outside the city walls, so they built a tunnel down and then a channel out to the spring. This ensures that if there was conflict, the people inside the city walls could access water. 183 steps down, 80 back out again!Read more

Megiddo was one of the most important cities of the ancient world because it guarded the Via Maris trade route through the crucial mountain pass of Mt Carmel. Today, it's an archeological dig site that has revealed 30 layers of civilizations dating back thousands of years. Megiddo looks over the Valley of Armageddon, mentioned in the Bible as the location of a future great battle where the forces of darkness will be defeated by Jesus.Read more

Day 3
Mt. Precipice and Mt. Carmel

We left rhe Mediterranean, and traveled north to Mt. Carmel, where Elijah held the contest with’450 prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18).

We stopped for a typical Falafel Meal at the Druze village of Daliaf El-Carnler.

Then, we spent the afternoon traveling through the Valley of Jezreel.

At Megiddo, we viewed the excavations of 21 superimposed cities, the remains from
Solomon’s days ( 1 Kings 9).

To end the day, we drove through Nazareth, where
Jesus spent most of His life. We made a stop at Mt. of Precipice (Luke 4) for a breathtaking view of Nazareth and the Valley of Armageddon. Can't explain how amazing these visits have been!

The Bible is unfolding before my eyes!

On our way to our hotel we drove by Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed His first miracle at the wedding feast (John 2) and made our wat to our hotel in Galilee where we will be for the next 3 days.Read more

Dreiundzwanzigste Etappe nach Megiddo

Nachdem wir uns bei Eilat für den netten Zeltplatz mit heißer Dusche bedankt hatten ging es bei strahlendem Sonnenschein weiter in Richtung Westen. In dem Städtchen Afula versorgten wir uns dann mit Bargeld und gönnten uns einen zweiten Kaffee. Mit Falafel frisch gestärkt und feines Gebäck vom Bäcker im Gepäck, steuerten wir Megiddo an.
Dort fanden wir ein nettes Plätzchen direkt am Eingang vor dem angrenzenden Kibbuz, wo eigentlich zelten verboten war.
Aber anstatt dass uns die Bewohner darauf hingewiesen haben dass wir hier nicht bleiben dürften, bekamen wir dutzende Essenseinladungen, Angebote für eine heiße Dusche und Süßigkeiten vorbei gebracht (....es hatte sich herum gesprochen, dass deutsche Fahrradfahrer am Tor zelten würden 😀).
An diesem Tag haben wir wieder einmal erfahren was Aufmerksamkeit und Gastfreundschaft in Israel bedeutet! Einfach unglaublich wie nett und hilfsbereit die Leute hier zu uns sind.Read more

Tel Megiddo National Park

Auch wenn das Eingangstor am Kibbuz unseren Schlaf etwas beeinträchtigt hat, war es schön dass wir hier die Nacht verbringen durften. Natürlich kamen wir hier nicht weg ohne weitere, nette Gespräche mit Kibbuz-Bewohner😀. Danach war die Besichtigung von Tel Megiddo angesagt und wenn diese Steine reden könnten würde man hier nie wieder weg kommen. Denn in den 4000 Jahren (v. Chr.) Stadtdeschichte, gäbe es bestimmt einiges zu erzählen. Die Stadt wurde 25 Mal zerstört und anschließend wieder aufgebaut, was an den vielen Schichten immer noch gut zu sehen ist.Read more

This is The site of the Armageddon in the book of revelations. Here we looked at ruins of settlements dating back 5000 years. This site has had 25 different ruling settlements throughout its history. It started with the Cannanite settlement which was on ground level and then after the many years and many settlements it became a hill. Here we saw a Israelite palace, stable, grain silo and also we walked in the ancient waterworks that they built so water could still be accessed even if they were surrounded by the enemy. This place was the gateway in to the Galilee and a prized strategic location whoever controlled it. What a spectacular wonder of design.Read more

Tel Megiddo

Tel Megiddo is the site of the ancient city of Megiddo whose remains form a tell (archaeological mound). It is in the inheritance of Manasseh. Excavations have unearthed 26 layers of civilizations with each flattened, filled in and then built on the previous layer. Armageddon in Hebrew is: Har = Mountain, mageddon = Megiddo or Mountain of Megiddo. This is where the armies of the world will gather together (along with the beast and false prophet) just before Christ's return. Some believe the actual battle will take place in Jerusalem.
Revelation 16:12-16
"The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates; and its water was dried up so that the way would be prepared for the kings from the east. And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. “Behold, I am coming like a thief.
