5 weeks into our trip and the long awaited reinforcements arrive in the shape of Simon and Gaynor Austin.
Fortunately for Jane and I, we arrived in Pisa ahead of time and managed to catch the last of the sun. Simon and Gaynor?.....not so lucky. ☔🌧️💦

...auf dem Weg zu unserer Hauptroute haben noch kurz halt in Pisa gemacht...
Leider gibt es ausser dem Turm und der Kirche nicht wirklich viel mehr zu sehen, dafür sind die Bauwerke umso beeindruckender... Beim Turm hat er etwas geschlampt aber die Kirche und Basilika sind Perfekt geworden... ;-)

... Sulla strada per il nostro percorso principale siamo stati per breve tempo a Pisa ...
Purtroppo, non ci sono altre monumenti a Pisa da vedere che la torre e la chiesa, questi sono gli edifici più impressionante ... Dalla torre ha pasticciato qualcosa, ma la chiesa e la basilica sono diventati perfetti ... ;-)Read more

It is believed that the city of Pisa was founded on the shore and was a maritime city, however with sediment deposits it now lies 10km inland from the shore.

Known worldwide for its leaning tower. The tower at its worst was leaning at 5.5 degrees. Work was done to stabilize the lean, and the lean is now stable at 4 degrees. The top of the tower is off-center by 3.9 meters.

Not only does the tower lean, but also the Baptistery which has a lean of 0.6 degrees.Read more

Der schiefe Turm von Pisa, jeder schonmal gesehen, jeder schonmal gehört aber so schief wie das Ding wirklich ist kann man gar nicht erahnen... Dass dieser Turm so stehen kann ist wirklich unfassbar!

Der Aufstieg fühlt sich an als wäre man betrunken... Mal geht es total steil die Treppe rauf, dann wieder ganz flach. In der einen Kurve neigt man dazu nach links zu fallen, in der nächsten nach rechts. Am Turm oben angekommen pfeift der Wind als möchte er einen einfach wieder hinunter blasen...

Draußen auf dem Gang über die alte Burgmauer entdeckten wir dann noch ein komisches Gebilde... Wären wir an einem Berg hätte ich gesagt es ist eine Schneekanone. Da wir aber in Pisa sind und beide direkt auf den Turm gerichtet sind, vermuten wir, dass es sich um Stabilisationshilfen handelt die den Turm, wenn nötig, aufrecht halten...Read more
