• Reykjavík day 2 and much further north

    15. Oktober in Island ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Whew! Another long day. We started with a whale watching tour where we got to see Minke whales and 2 humpbacks. It was really misty out and the seas were “rough” according to the guide, but it was only mildly exiting for me. :-). The bay we were in was fairly protected and shallow, but it was a worthwhile endeavor. We came back had lunch at a food hall and took another catnap (local shop cat in a wool store for the lols) before heading to the Sky Lagoon. OMG, totally worth it. They have a 7-step ritual that is awesome. It involved a cold plunge and I surprised myself by liking it. Ed noped out about half a second after he got in, but I stuck it out for maybe 30 seconds. :-). It made the 50 degree air feel downright balmy. Then there were saunas, cold mists, a salt scrub (self-applied), a steam room, and a delicious shot of some elixir after that was truly lovely. No pics because Ed and I decided to just enjoy, but no one else seemed to feel that way! We the lagoon bar sells waterproof phone bags I guess that’s a sign of the times. We grabbed a quick sandwich there because we got word that our Aurora tour was actually gonna happen (it was cancelled yesterday). So off we went with Tomas, who said we would have to drive a little further than usual…. Well, that turned out to be about 2.5 hours north of Reykjavik. I’m not sure we would have been on board if we had suspected that we would be getting back at 4am, but to be fair, we did find the lights and it was a fairly good show. I couldn’t get my big camera to even consider taking a picture (clearly I am still an amateur), so iPhone it is and I’ll add some of the tour guide’s photos after I get them.Weiterlesen
