Te Araroa - Tag 52 + 53

🇩🇪 Tag 52 + 53: 55 km Nichols Hut - Otaihanga

Wir sind früh morgens von der Nichols Hut aufgebrochen und hatten daher schöne Morgenstimmung mit Nebel im Tal! Zuerst ging es auf den Mount Crawford, unser höchster Punkt in den Tararuas. 🥰 Anfangs war es noch etwas neblig, aber sobald wir oben ankamen, lichtete sich der Nebel@und wir hatten herrliche Blicke entlang des Grats, den wir kurze Zeit später entlang gingen. Danach ging es 1.000 Meter steil hinab ins Tal. Die zweite Hälfte des Tages war es dann ein stetes Auf und Ab, bis wir in der Parawai Lodge ankamen. Von dort ging es heute weiter über den Pukeatua. Also erst mal 800 Meter hoch und danach auch gleich wieder runter 😊 Aber der Weg war sehr gut zu gehen im Vergleich zu den anderen Tagen. Im Tal angekommen ging es auf der Straße nach Waikanae. Nach einem leckeren Essen und Resupply lief ich noch nach Otaihanga, wo ich bei den Trail Angels Helen und Andrew übernachte. Morgen fahren sie mich an den Busbahnhof, von wo ich zurück nach Taumarunui fahre, um die ausgelassenen Etappen am Tongariro wandern werde.

🇺🇸 Day 52 + 53: 55 km Nichols Hut - Otaihanga

We set off from Nichols Hut early in the morning and therefore had a lovely morning atmosphere with fog in the valley! First we went to Mount Crawford, our highest point in the Tararuas. 🥰 At first it was a bit foggy, but as soon as we got to the top the fog cleared and we had wonderful views along the ridge, which we walked along a short time later. Then we went 1,000 meters steeply down into the valley. The second half of the day was a constant up and down until we arrived at the Parawai Lodge. From there we continued today over the Pukeatua. So first 800 meters up and then straight back down 😊 But the path was very easy to walk compared to the other days. Once in the valley we took the road to Waikanae. After a delicious meal and resupply, I walked to Otaihanga, where I stay overnight with the Trail Angels Helen and Andrew. Tomorrow they’ll drive me to the bus station, from where I’ll drive back to Taumarunui to hike the left stages at Tongariro.Read more
