From the campaneto Los Perros we have hiked to an easily accessible glacier. First we had to cross the rover that I secretly hoped it don't be possible. But we did and the hike was not that difficult and once we have seen the glacier in front of us, there was no way back. It was a great experience to be so close. We managed to have a little drink directly from the glacier and fearless took pictures on the cave that has been created. Even though the CONAF did not recommend the hike, we had a blast and enjoyed every bit of the trip.Leia mais

  • Day 4 Los Perros - Campamento Paso

    27 de dezembro de 2017, Chile ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

For me it was definitely the most difficult day ahead of us. Not to put too much pressure, we have set out for the journey as the last ones. While brushing teeth, a fox decided to visit the camp and have a look around. It was great to see it from so close and Petr was even a bit scared. After that we could get going. Fortunately the weather was fantastic that was definitely huge help. The 700 m elevation is spread over 3,5 km and with the backpack was very hard. There was few points when I have been so tired and wanted to give up. Petr was enjoying himself and taking lots of videos of me stuck on the snow. The hard work was paid off as when we have finally reached the took, stunning view of the Glaciar Grey opened in front of us. It's part of the Campo de Hielo Sur. We have met a CONAF guide at the top who took few pictures of us before we heared to the camp with a very steep hill down. It seemed like we have been going forever and when we couldn't go any further we have opened map to check where we are. Turned out we have been exactly 5 meters from the camp. Most of the people continued further to the Refugio Grey but for us, this was home for the night. We cooked dinner and gone to bed really early. The next day would be very long for us.Leia mais

  • Day 5 Campamento Paso - Paine Grande

    28 de dezembro de 2017, Chile ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

After a good night sleep we have set up on a hour at for our longest distance trek in Torres. The first part of the journey led us around the Glaciar Grey where we could see a huge chunk of the ice broken of from the main field. To get to the Refugio Grey, we had to cross to really scary bridges. They were hanging over a deep valley with water from the glacier running in it. With the Refugio Grey that is official part of the trek W started a huge amount of people and more crowded part of our journey. The Fanta from the mini market was very sweet and exactly what we needed. The second part of the journey was full of wind. There was a point where I literally could not walk any further. I had to lower down to the ground and wait for Petr to help me. He happily done so after he filmed my struggle. The weather forecast was predicting a heavy rain from 3 p.m. so we picked up a pace and got on with it. It started to rain just as we have approached the camp on a huge meadow. The check in took ages and in the meantime the rain did really pick up. We have decided to cook dinner first and wait for the rain to stop. When I had a feeling the time came, we ran out to get set up. Unfortunately it didn't really stop raining and we had to built our tent the other way around. Little we knew what was coming our way. The night was long and very wind. Before we felt asleep, the wind got so strong that one of our tent piles got bent by it. The rest of the night we have spent waking up to gusts of wind blowing down the valley and trying to keep the tent together.Leia mais

  • Day 6 Paine Grande - Campamento Italiano

    29 de dezembro de 2017, Chile ⋅ 🌫 6 °C

After a very busy night of trying to save the tent from the wind, we have woken up to not so nicely looking weather. There was a weather forecast of rain and while cooking breakfast it kept on and off raining. We tried to time the best part of the morning to start the hike. About 10 minutes from the beginning the rain started to pour so we picked up the pace to get it done and over with. After while we have realized that the better option is to wait for a bit and keep walking with the sunshine that was behind us. At the Lago de Patos we have seen the two different colours. One part was with the sunshine and the second one with mordor. We have arrived to the camp slightly wet and very cold. We set up the tent in the forest in the camp that was very basic. We met few Czech people who were hiking the W. They told us that there is a viewpoint about 500 metres from the camp. We scratched the Valle France visit as it was snowing and with small visibility. We set to cook a dinner when a gentleman seating behind us got chatting with us in Czech. He is originally from Turnov but leaves in Australia with his wife. They were part of the group who was doing Torres del Paine on a much bigger budget than us. He gave us plenty of nuts, fruit and bars that they got at the campsites before as he would get so e more at the next one. It was like Xmas came late. They set of for the Paine Grande and we snuggled in the sleeping bed for a good night sleep. The wind in the trees was going crazy but near the ground was hardly any and we could peacefully sleep all night.Leia mais

  • Day 7 Campamento Italiano - Las Torres

    30 de dezembro de 2017, Chile ⋅ 🌫 6 °C

The last part of the circuit was ahead of us after a very cold night we were ready to finally finish the journey. Most of the hike was done along the lake and seemed pretty much never ending. The weather was nice and clouds had so many shapes. Part of the trek took us along the lake and the final bridge was very welcomed. Even though It took another half an hour to finally get to the camp. After check in we set to do d the perfect spot as we were staying for the first time w nights in the same camp. It does not have a shelter for cooking food so we have settled by the table nearby and cooked dinner. The delicious red wine CLOS was perfect for the celebration of our arrival.Leia mais

  • Day 8 Las Torres and the final hike

    31 de dezembro de 2017, Chile ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After a really good night sleep we have set of to check our bus for next day. Our original plan was to leave Torres the in the evening but as we started to be restless and couldn't wait for a real food, we wanted to check of there is any earlier option. Thankfully there was another bus at 1:30 p.m. we could swap for. After a coffee break and lunch we have finally at 2 p.m. decided to brave the last part of our journey and hike to the towers. The weather didn't really look that good but the idea of an early morning and hike from 7 a.m. made us to start the journey. It was pretty much uphill all the way in not the best weather we have experienced. I was rather tired and complained pretty much the entire trek. By the time we got to the Campamento Chileano we have been completely soaked by rain and the visibly was miserable. After another hour we have approached the final steep hill. The last 400 meters elevation was done on the last kilometre. I was at the end of my power and within the last 100 meters it started to snow. We were one of the last ones to hike that day as the trails shuts at 5 p.m. The view at the top was nice. We could see a bit of the towers and laguna looked freezing. We took few pictures and set of for the return journey. We pretty much run down the hill to be back in the camp by 8 p.m. as it was New Year's Eve and that meant midnight back home. Petr stopped for few beers and a box of wine and we had a drink to celebrate finishing of the circuit and the New Year.Leia mais

  • Day 9 Las Torres - Puerto Natales

    1 de janeiro de 2018, Chile ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

YAY! We did it! After 120 km, 5.3 km of elevation, 2 showers in 9 days and several kilograms lighter we were finally ready to leave the Torres del Paine. We started with polenta breakfast and packing all our stuff. Then we hanged around the information centre and watched all the new people to pour into the park. Dirty but happy with feeling of accomplishment we had a cup of coffee and waited for our bus. Few faces from the circuit appeared as Australian couple who we met the first day in Seron. The journey back was nice and we couldn't wait to be back at our favorite camp Guino. After arrival we checked the next bus to El Calafate that was available. It looked like we will have couple of days in Puerto Natales before we head to Argentina. After setting up a tent, we head straight for the town in a search for a huge satisfying meal. Parilla for two did the trick and after hot shower we have gone to bed for a very good night sleep.Leia mais

Our first meal returning from Torres del Paine must-have been huge of course. Parilla for two definitely did the trick. At the table at the restaurant we got recommended local eatery that serves huge portions for bargain prices. Of course we had to try out! It was enormous and super delicious and impossible to finish! Yam!Leia mais

  • El Calafate

    5 de janeiro de 2018, Argentina ⋅ 🌬 14 °C

Charming little town with everything we have hoped for. The empanadas and pastries are delicious, the glacier museum was very informative and sleeping in a bed after almost two weeks was just heaven. The town is a getaway for the Perito Moreno glacier. The entire park is an UNESCO site and we can't wait for a trip there.Leia mais

  • Perito Moreno

    6 de janeiro de 2018, Argentina ⋅ ⛅ -1 °C

Named after famous Argentinians explorer, the massive glacier is the biggest attraction of El Calafate and an UNESCO site. It hasn't change in past 200 years and every couple of years it reaches the soil. A bit expensive and unfortunately with not such a good weather for us. It was still very impressive and we were lucky enough to see two quite big chunks of the ice crush to the lake.Leia mais

  • Tango - empanadas

    6 de janeiro de 2018, Argentina ⋅ ⛅ -1 °C

As always, we have found our empanada guy. The leaflet from the tourist information centre did not look very fancy, what was our clue to a budget place. The service was fantastic. The place was run by a lovely family. The lady was at the counter and her husband cook one of the most delicious empanadas we have tried. My favorite was ricotta with pumpkin and Peter felt in love with the roquefort filling. After day in Perito Moreno, it was the perfect stop for a light dinner, beer and bit of sun-taking!Leia mais

24km. 1600 m of elevation. 6 hours. Beautiful views and very red faces. All of that was our second big hike in the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. If it would not been for the horse flies, it would have been perfect. Our physics is getting much better and the last 250 m of elevation took us only 30 minutes. Beer and crisps after dinner!Leia mais

Little village on the Lago Argentino that is full of cherry trees and every year lives by a special fiesta celebrating the fruit.

We have read about this festival in travel guide but as we got to Los Antiguos, we have found out that it's the weekend we are here as well.
It was fantastic to have a look around and visit the rodeo for the first time. Gaucho tradition is very strong in this part of Argentina and it was a huge party.
In the evening we have walked through the fair and tried chips from a lovely lady.
Overall it was nice experience and one to remember.

  • Chile Chico

    13 de janeiro de 2018, Chile ⋅ ☀️ -12 °C

To get to the Chile Chico, we had to try hitchhiking for the very first time on our trip to South America. There is no regular or irregular connection between Los Antiguos and Chile Chico so it's driving, hiking or hitchhiking. We got a bag of cherries from the festival for the road and started walking. It didn't take that long to get to the Argentinian boarder. There we had to wait for an hour to be let through and start hiking again. Here we have decided to try as Chilean border was another 8 km and it was getting quite hot. A lovely Argentinian couple stopped us. They were traveling all the way to Puerto Montt and the Lake District. They dropped us of straight in the centre of Chile Chico.
We have decided to try the camp by the lake that was really close. It looked really nice and the lady who run it as well. It cost CLP 10 000 per night for both of us what was great option.
The only downside was the thousands of Isreali youth that have been visiting the camp every night. I must say that we haven't come across more rude and disrespectful nation on our travels.

  • Hitchhiking to anywhere

    15 de janeiro de 2018, Chile ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

After two lovely days in Chile Chico we set on a journey to the Reserva Jeinimeni. The only pr9blem is that we need to get 57 km towards a lake where the journey starts. As there is no public transport, the only way to get there is hitchhiking. We were kind of lucky to get ride for the first 12 km on a back of a truck that was going to a farm. Unfortunately, that's in the middle of nowhere and cars are not really regular thing in here. So we will hike it back to the town, trying to get a ride to the lake the opposite site and see what will happen.Leia mais
