Bristol to Lanzarote

Early flight from Bristol with Jet2 com to Arracife on Lanzarote. From there by hire car to the Mercadona for a big shop. Then on to check in at La Santa to find out if we have a nice view, we did (see photo) and just about enough beds! 2 bedrooms and 2 sofa beds, just not enough pans to cook for 6 hungry athletes ( or 8 counting MLK and Tom!)Read more

Teguise and Mancha Blanca

After a good night sleep we were ready to tackle our first activity of our holiday/sports camp. A swim drill session with one of the Danish swim coaches. He had a very clear instructions and demonstrated on dry land what we were to do. We concentrated on body position and how our arms moved over the water. Very informative indeed!

After this we mounted our Cannondale Supersix Evo to get out onto the volcanic landscape of Lanzerote. As we made our way to Teguise the traffic got increasingly busy due to the masses going to the beach and the market in Teguise. Once we were on the road to Uga it got very quiet and we enjoyed the Lanzarote vineyards, lava fields and ancient volcanos.Read more

Birthday, slackline and MTB

Landon's birthday was kicked off by eating 14 pastries freshky collected from the bakers. Then an introduction to slack line walking. It looks easy but balancing on a wobbly piece of flat line is not easy at all . Anyway after much wobbling and falling off into the sand a letcha letcha was called for. Next was Sub Yoga, wobbling about on a sub aqua board! In the afternoon the Intermediate MTB was called for, this was quite spectacular if notca bit fast paced but single track, gravel tracks, fast descents, beaches and loose sand. It was all there! La Santa Triathlon and Cueva de los Verd

La Santa always offer a mini triathlon as part of the excercise programme. The bike leg had been replaced by a static bike after a bad crash a few years back so now everyone does 15km all together next to the pool before dashing out on a 3km run around the lagoon. Great fun and great excercise for 57 minutes!
Later that day we visited the caves further north. Very interesting excursion underground in large lava tubes created by hot flowing lava. The lava on top cools first creating the crust on top. Some tubes are mire then 7km long! The temperature underground is a constant 19 - 20 °c, They also have a very nice trick with the mirror pool but you have to go and see that one for yourself!Read more

Going south with the wind us perhaps not the best idea but it did mean we missed out on the heavy showers that were falling as the clouds were coming in from the north and dropping their load as the go over the mountains. The lava fields are rather fascinating to cycle through especially for the tourists who lost control and planted their car on top if it! The last eruption was in 1824, a good 200 years ago.Read more

Tabayesco and Mirador del rio

Brilliant day out cycling from out hotel at Cista Tequise to the view point at Miradir Del Rio. The roads were quiet enough and the ascent through Tabayesco only had 3 cars all the way to the top! As we made our way along to the top northerly point we had a great view of the island La Graciosa and and to the West La Santa. From the Mirador we had a fast decent to the port of Orzola where we had lunch. The way back was a fast 35 km through the lava fields and along a couple more vulcanos.Read more
