It took us 5 hours from Clarens to the Dam wall with all the stops for oohs and ahs and pics and driving hazards, but it's worth the drive!
Here are our first impressions:

Day 4
Katse Dam wall tour

On our way from the Dam to Katse Lodge we stopped at the Visitors' Centre to enquire about tours. Angela had insisted we should do a tour that goes through a tunnel. There was a tour to the Dam wall at 14h00. It was then 13h15.
Decisions, decisions.
We decided to check how far it was to the Lodge and then decide.
Well, it took about 10 mins, so we collected our key, looked at the room and drove back to the Visitors' Centre. We had crackers and cheese and Coke for lunch and then waited for about half an hour for Neo the tour guide to turn up.
But it was all worth it! The Dam wall is an amazing feat of engineering. And it is full of tunnels with all sorts of cables, laser beams and other technology that monitors every groan and sigh.
Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures inside the Wall, but we made the most of it outside.
We even drove across the wall and stopped to admire the view and take more pictures.
This morning we took the short cut back across the wall (we had asked the guard very nicely yesterday if we might) which saved about 30 mins of driving round and round and up and down.Read more
Traveler We parked up here: Neo and an official from the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA - who had the keys) went in one bakkie and we followed in Juanita. This is level Hermann and we went in the door at the end of the wall. Levels go down to O and presumably up to A; each has its own arched tunnel and is linked to the levels above and below by a steel spiral staircase.

Da bin ich wieder kurz zurück in der digitalen Welt denn in lesotho funktionieren noch die Buschtrommeln. Hatte eine aufregende Anreise über Sanipass 4wd only und das stimmt so; hinauf auf 2800m dann weiter auf 3200m vorbei am afrikanischen Skigebiet (afri-ski) bis dahin war die welt noch i.o. dann gings los: follow the mainroad for 280km (s.foto) als Namen für diese mainroad würde ich Highway to Hell vorschlagen. Dann gings durch die 3 Wetter und Geländeberge (Bmw xdrive Mountain nur ohne Asphalt): Sonne, Regen und Hagel!!! Sand Steine und Matsch!! Supertoll thats the top of Afrika ! Extremste Situation war: ein allradler stand quer in der spur auf rutschigem geläuf festgefahren ich musste mit meiner ktm steil berab vorbei ; exakt 80cm Platz seitlich, weiter links: der Abgrund !! Es war das erste mal auf den Biketouren das ich die hose gestrichen voll hatte. Danach ist man natürlich der grösste- bis zum ächsten mal. Im Zelt habe ich mich gewundert warum ich Kopfschmerzen habe (ohne Alk misbrauch!) Bis ich dann festgestellt habe das ich mich immer noch auf 2400m befinde. Am nächsten tag gings munter weiter auf 1500m runter wieder rauf auf 3000m und so weiter. Eine echt challenge für radler zum höhentraining. Da jubeln die Erys!!

We found it by chance, while looking for a other place we're we cloud eat something. The restaurant was really nice and had great food 🙃 The lady running it was really happy we stopped there. We were surely the first foreigner's since she just open the restaurant two weeks ago.Read more
