• Burgos Cathedral

    I was in Burgos. I knew there was a cathedral in Burgos. What I did NOT know, was how knocked on my ass I would end up once I saw it.

    Walking into the square, the sheer scale of it takes your breath away. I can't say much more about the experience other than it was emotional, and one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's usually natural sights, not manmade, that I count as beautiful. Yet, seeing the cathedral, you realise there is something utterly incomprehensible about how vast that spectrum is: 'manmade'.

    I walked around blinking back tears, looking in awe at just how much beauty had been created by little short-lived ants. Beauty in every single tiny detail. Beauty lovingly carved. Beauty standing for hundreds of years.

    I simultaneously held it in reverence and experienced it with a sense of profound grief. Will a building, a monument, ever be made like this again? Are our hands able? Do they care? If not in God's name, in whose?
