Half Way Home 💪 Only 50,000 Miles To Go
June 2 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F
Today was great!! But it started weird.
But before I tell the day's story, here's the biggest news: I am over 50,000 miles as of today!!!! Half way through!!! 💪 Honestly, I don't think I could've gotten this far without help, particularly from Dunlop for the tires, Aerostich for my suit, Wild Ass for my seat cushion, and Powder Keg and All American Harley-Davidson Dealerships. Thank y'all so very much!!!
I guess I forgot to set my alarm because at 0530 I jumped. I use my gaiter as an eye mask, so the full daylight didn't wake me 🤦. And I sleep with earbuds playing music, so I didn't hear (or smell) the person who was smoking a cigarette outside my tent 😳. I suppose it was a firefighter 1) because the pickup that was there when I set up was gone when I broke down, and 2) they're all pyromaniacs and smokers 🤣. Just kidding, Karl! Oh wait, you smoke 🤣🤣.
Anyway, that's why I try to hide when I freecamp. Knowing I'm a plastic sheet away from a possible ARM (Attacker Rapist Murderer) is creepy enough. If I dwell on it for too long, I won't be able to freecamp alone anymore, so that's that.
I rolled just after 0600, in all my heated gear again except the over boots/gloves. It wasn't 33°F, but it sure wasn't 50 either. I had no cell reception, so I'm guessing it was about 38. Cold enough to turn it all on, for sure.
The only good thing about oversleeping was the road I got to enjoy because I see the river running along side. The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway on New York highway 97 is stunning. My first photo was at Hawks Next Overlook. Just magnificent. Had I ridden that last night, I wouldn't have seen anything but the road, so cool.
That road took me to Roebling's Delaware Aquaduct, again, very cool. I didn't ride across it, though.
I popped by Shaffer's HD for my pic and asked them if they could get that cover thing back on. They wound up replacing the rubber grommets for me. No charge. They were so nice and helpful. I love when I find dealerships like that. Thank you, Shaffers!!!
Just after that and at lunchtime, I couldn't remember when I last ate food with utensils, so I stopped at O'Neal's Pub in Line Grove PA. I had the mahi mahi grilled with pineapple and red bell peppers and served with coconut rice. 🤤🤤🤤. OMG it was so good!! I could've made a meal out of just the rice 😋.
The best part of that stop was Mikayla, the entire front of the house staff. I'd love to spend a whole day in the pub sipping on adult bever6and chatting with her. What a doll!! Thank you!!
From the pub, I beelined to Maryland's Capitol building in Annapolis, then headed to DC...at rush hour 😞. It was horrible and took two hours longer than I anticipated. However, I don't have to get anywhere near that city again. [BTW, DC has the highest gas prices I've seen so far, almost $7/gal for 93 and almost $6 for 87. Even higher than California 😱.]
Once I got all my pics in DC, it was hit the highway for Massachusetts, my next state alphabetically. I've stopped at Keystone HD to camp. Lots of light, but I'm out of view from the road, so I think it'll be fine.
Hope to see you on the road! Remember, NO WHINING! ✌️
