Route 66 West Day 1

Five of us left Amarillo this morning at 0700 bound for Santa Fe. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain almost all day, so we very slowly made our way down I-40 and bypassed most of the Route 66 stops. We did stop at the Midway Point Cafe for pics, though.

We took I-40 past Tucumcari through Santa Rosa, then took US-84 northwest to Las Vegas where we had lunch. Then it was back in the rain to Santa Fe.

Just outside, I broke off the pack to get my state Capitol Building pic, then went straight to Wicked West HD. They adjusted my highway pegs back to where I can use them 👍.

Everyone else made it to the dealership, and we had a very nice meal of green chili cheeseburgers. Yummy! Then it was off to the hotel to crank up the heat and take a hot shower. Not only was I wet from the rain, but the temp dropped to almost 50°F, so I was pretty cold, too.

Tomorrow should be better weather, and I hope to see more Route 66 sights 🤞.
