    Not Quite The End After All

    Well, my last post was a touch premature on the The End bit. After over a week off the bike and doing a whole bunch of adulting stuff, today I got back on the road to hit some dealerships and grab a few Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas pics. Even on a Saturday, Dallas traffic is abominable, but I survived.

    This Is The End--Part 1

    With over 137,000 miles on the odometer and over 60,000 on the trip, Willie's belt gave out on me today only 250 miles from home. So close! Luckily, I was very close to Warhawk HD in Monroe, AL, and was able to make it to them before it completely broke.

    Because I am so close to home, I decided to leave the bike with them--they'll get the belt and pulley parts on Saturday--and take an early morning Greyhound to Tyler, TX, where my awesome uncle is going to pick me up.

    Every day is an adventure!

    I suppose I'll call this the end of the trip, although I still have a couple thousand miles to ride in order to complete the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas.

    Final stats and a wrap up will be in Part 2 later this month.

    Today was bittersweet. After a wonderful month of traveling with John, I had to say goodbye, but I got to say hello to my best friend Micki in Georgia. It's great to see her again, as always.

    We finished today in St. Augustine, FL. I'm sad it's over, but I'm so glad to have spent the past two weeks riding with my friends.

    Posse Ride Day 5

    8 September 2022, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

    John and I left Ogden at 06:15 this morning 😴😴😴. But it was worth it. We hit three dealers in Salt Lake City, then hightailed it to Moab. We picked up a picnic lunch at a grocery store and rode to the entrance of Arches National Park! Woohoo! We got to the gate at exactly 12:00, which was the beginning of our timed entry ticket. Perfect!

    After a stop at the visitor center, we rode through the park, stopping at just about every pulloff and viewpoint. We had lunch at Panorama Point, which was incredibly beautiful, but so very hot. 103°F 🥵🥵🥵. By the time we made it back to the entrance, we had drunk all of our Gatorade and water. Luckily we were able to refill all of our bottle and take a break in the shade before riding out.

    Somewhat cooler, we left the park and took UT128 north along the Colorado River. This is one of my favorite roads, and I enjoyed watching John's head turn on a swivel as he tried to take in the scenery.

    Despite the heat, we had a wonderful day that ended with dinner at the Grand Junction HD. Winning!!!

    Posse Ride Day 4

    Left Boise bound for Salt Lake City. The four of us stopped for great BBQ at Piggy Sue's food truck in Albion, UT. Then we stopped at Golden Spike National Historic Park. Unfortunately, the real spikes are at Stanford University (2 of them), 1 is in New York, and 1 is gone. But it was a great place to visit anyway. We arrived in Ogden, UT, pretty early, but we're really beat up from the over 100°F heat. We went to our hotels first, then John and I decided to forego dinner at the dealership and just hang out in the air conditioning with a couple of beers. Worked out great!

    Great day down US95 and ID55 through Lewiston, Grangeville, Riggins, and McCall. Tom joined us today!

    Saw a hawk carrying a snake! Rode down Old Spiral Highway! Had lunch in Grangeville. Went past the fire camp battling the forest fires. Breathed a lot of smoke. Very frustrated over the Class A motorhome with dinghy who wouldn't pull over in the twisties, but made it through over 100°F temps into Boise just in time for dinner and the raffle. Awesome ride!!!

    Posse Ride Day 2

    Today was the first riding day of the rally, from Lynnwood WA to Spokane WA. John, Donna, and I rode through North Cascades National Park where I got my last passport stamp (MISSION COMPLETE!) and they got their 50 Rides 1 Nation photos for Washington. We also stopped at a great overlook at Grand Coulee Dam, the largest concrete structure in the world. Great day!!

    From Iowa to the Middle of Nowhere, I mean, Nebraska. Long but good day. Although we got pretty soaked before lunch, we had plenty of time to dry out. John got both his Iowa and Nebraska 50 Rides 1 Nation photos, his first ones for the game! Unfortunately, we couldn't get him any poker chips from the dealerships because none were open today, but there will be plenty of other opportunities.

    My Friend Is Here!!!

    Today was my 130,000-mile service at Bluegrass HD. They also fixed my heated grips 😁 and replaced the rear tire with the one I've been carrying for the last month. I am soooooo very happy to not have to lug that tire around!

    The best part of today, though, is that my dear dear friend John, whom I haven't seen in over a year, has joined me ❤️. Tomorrow we ride for Washington State!
