      Der Garten wurde whs. die letzten Jahre nicht sehr gepflegt.
      Die Strände im Norden der Insel sind ok, aber das Meer eher trüb...

      Penang Hill

      We really enjoyed this day out of a city environment up to the top of Penang Hill by funicular. During the ascent the temperature drops from an average of 31C to 27 C degrees and the flora adapts over four levels. This is the oldest colonial era hill top station in Asia established in 1786 by Penang's founder Captain Francis Light. Formerly called Flagstaff Hill, as a defence look out point, it stands at height of 833m. A significant community with more than 50 buildings developed during the colonial period and were used as British retreats with walking paths, a place of recuperation away from the heat and disease of Penang and eventually a school. HABITAT is a walking path and bridge skirting along a UNESCO biosphere protected rainforest. It was special to walk along the rainforest tree tops with views of Penang below. We spent almost seven hours there; spending a bit of time waiting for a downpour to stop so we could use our umbrella (see "The Thinking Doug" holding the umbrella!).Read more

      Hiking & chill

      Früh aufgestanden, gabs Frühstück mit Callie & los ging’s zum hiken - zum Penang Hill. Der Weg war steil und anstregend, aber nachdem wir es geschafft hatten, konnten wir die Aussicht genießen. Sonst war der Penang Hill ganz anders wie gedacht… es war leider super touristisch und gar nicht so naturbelassen… der Weg war super schön, der Penang Hill selbst nur Mittel. 3 Stunden ging’s dann wieder bergab, inkl. 2 mal hinfallen & zurück ins Hostel. Kurz frisch gemacht, hab ich mich dann mit David getroffen. Wir waren Kaffee trinken, spazieren, Wein / Bier trinken & dann indisch essen. Wir waren 6 Stunden unterwegs & war super witzig.Read more

      George Town, Penang

      Peter (in Langkawi kennengelernt und zufällig selben Stopp geplant) und ich haben wirklich gerade so unsere Fähre von Langkawi nach Penang bekommen, weil wir viel zu spät los gefahren sind und uns ein Staff Member mit seinen Fahrskills praktisch zum Hafen gebeamt hat.
      Nach einer 6 h Fahrt sind wir dann in George Town angekommen und ich hab mich mit Sam aus South Africa wieder getroffen, da sie auch vor Ort war. Wir sind dann obwohl ich wirklich fertig war, noch zu einem Tempel gefahren, welche festlich für das chinesische Neujahr geschmückt und beleuchtet war. Obwohl es sehr anstrengend war diesen Berg hoch zu steigen und wir erst im Nachhinein erfahren haben, dass es einen Aufzug gibt, um die gesamte Tempel Anlage zu sehen, hat es sich definitiv gelohnt.       March 12 Penang Hill

      Of all the things we had earmarked to do while in Penang, taking the funicular to the top of Penang Hill was firmly at the top of the list. At roughly 2km apparently it’s the longest in Asia and has the steepest tunnel section in the world. We have waited until now so that school holidays would be over and planned our day to arrive fairly early.

      It’s two buses to get to the bottom station and then a queue to board. Even with all that planning and foresight the carriages are still full to capacity.

      Four and a half minutes later we reach the top station at an elevation of 712m. Our first stop is breakfast at the top station cafe, out on the terrace overlooking the forest with occasional glimpses of the very cute Dusky Langurs scampering in the treetops and over the cafe roof.

      And the we are off. Firstly we climb a roadway that leads to a large open space with an information kiosk on one side. I head there in search of a map, and leave with entry tickets to the Nature Trail and elevated walkway.      Read more

      Izlet na Penang Hill

      Pri zajtrku mi je Richard predlagal, naj popoldne krenem z avtobusom do Penang Hilla, kjer se z vzpenjačo povzpneš na najvišji vrh Penanga.
      Avtobus je stal cca 0,50€ za eno urno vožnjo, v družbi lokalcev sem se počasi premikala po notranjost otoka. Od avtobusne postaje še slabih 10 min hoje skozi malo vasico do male gondole. Zaračunali so mi ceno za turiste, a sem jo vesela plačala. Počakali smo do polne ure, potem pa so nas spustili, da smo se vkrcali. Vožnja je bila kratka, v ene slabih petih minutah smo se povzpeli kar zelo visoko, s stalnim prečudovitim pogledom na spodnje mesto.Read more

      Dernière journée en Malaisie 😢🇲🇾

      Ça y est, la fin des vacances approche à grand pas.

      Pour cette dernière journée, gros programme. Il est temps de faire le cours de cuisine avec un chef local que j’avais offert à Monsieur.
      Réveil aux aurores parce que le rdv est à 7h00 et nous avons 40 minutes de route depuis notre colline.
      Nous rejoignons le chef au Wet Market, marché 100% local pour faire les courses et prendre un petit déjeuner. Expérience locale assurée, nous sommes les seuls touristes du marché. Nous découvrons de nouvelles odeurs, de nouveaux légumes et autres produits non identifiés.
      Une fois les courses faites, le chef nous offre des pancakes locaux accompagné d’un thé et café local. Première pour nous aussi, nous pensions pourtant avoir fait un bon tour de la gastronomie locale.
      Ensuite direction le studio de cuisine du chef pour un peu plus de 2 heures de cours. Au menu :
      - Poulet Kung Pao, spécialité Chinoise mais Penang a une population chinoise énorme 🐓
      - Nouilles chinoises faites main accompagné de la sauce locale (viande, sambal 🌶️🌶️, œuf mollet et Pak Choi)
      - Rouleaux de printemps Nyonya, une des populations locales 🫔
      C’était très très intéressant et on s’est régalés ! On a dégusté tous nos plats à la fin du cours avec un jus de muscade, qui a un goût de Coca sans les les bulles.

      Une fois que nous sommes remplis comme des oies, nous partons visiter un énorme temple sur la route retour, le Kek Lok Si. Nous en profitons, arrivés au sommet, pour faire nos vœux et les laisser sur l’arbre devant le Bouddha. Les voici :
      - La paix dans le monde ☮️
      - Du bonheur permanent 🤩
      - Être ensemble pour toujours ❤️‍🔥
      - Que notre famille soit en sécurité ✨
      - Être en bonne santé physique 💪🏽
      - Vivre harmonieusement ensemble 🧘🏽‍♀️
      - Nico en a ajouté un pour notre cher Pixel (et oui encore et toujours lui!) : Obéir à papa et maman, être en bonne santé et heureux 🐱
      On espère que tout ça va se réaliser 🙏🏼

      On file ensuite à notre super logement pour nous rafraîchir dans le jacuzzi, peaufiner notre semblant de bronzage et finir nos livres 📚.

      Day 11

      Temples and viewpoints

      We had planned to go to Penang Hill today but as we were leaving our hotel the lady at reception told us about a Chinese temple a 15 minute walk away that was well worth a visit so we hopped on a local bus out of town and arrived just outside the Temple and omg it was huge! And completely free!
      We wandered around the temple admiring the detail which was everywhere we looked and we rode the funicular to the very top which revealed amazing views of the city and a huge statue.

      Once we had taken it all in we headed over to Penang Hill and I have to say I was a little disappointed, after paying RM30 each to get to the top of the hill it felt like you had to pay to get a decent view of the city even though you have just paid to get up there.
      All the free Bench's you could sit on the views weren't great and the ones that had the best view you had to pay for so we had a walk around and came back down.

      After racking up lots of steps today we treated ourselves to a pudding at a desserts restaurant and we were not disappointed 👍      Read more

      Kek Lok Si / Penang Hill

      Hallo ein letztes Mal aus Penang. Ich freue mich sehr auf Koh Samui, das umher reisen durch Penang macht mich ein bisschen müde und ich habe mich heute auch ein paar mal „verloren“ gefühlt, weil ich den Bus nicht finden konnte und noch eine andere Situation, die ich nicht erklären möchte. Ich bin grade sehr alleine unterwegs und das merke ich auch. Ich habe heute die Tour gemacht, die ich mit Caro 2017 schon mal gemacht habe. Erst war ich am Kek-Lok-Si Tempel (ein großer buddhistischer Tempel) und danach am Penang Hill. Ich bin heute nicht so sehr in der Laune, viel zu schreiben und ich muss noch meinen Rucksack packen 🙈
