      ALLE’S new clothes

      October 3, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

We got to Khote which is a cute small village in the middle of the Hinku valley.
ALLE and I shared a plate of momos for lunch which were yummy.
It’s a lot colder up here and decided that ALLE needed some new warm clothes. Maree and I walked to a tiny shop selling a few things and I found this great jacket for him.Read more

      Bridges and rocks

      October 2, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

After a nice cozy sleep, ALLE and I had rice pudding with honey for Brekky which was very filling.
Today was challenging. A slightly shorter day but a very big and strenuous walk. There was lots of rain overnight which again left the track slippery but luckily the rain held off.
The one part of the track we had all been dreading was today- up and over a big rock formation, lucky they had put in a chain to help. We also had lots of waterfall crossings today and needed lots of help from Sherpa Tendi as they were slippery and flowing fast.
We arrived at our destination at Toktou where we had visited for lunch in 2020. It was so nice to stop by lunch and have some relax time.
ALLE and I shared a bowl of soup which we ate by the fire.

      7e jour- récup à 4000m d'altitude 😁

      April 1, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☁️ -7 °C

      Day 26: Lobuche to Pangboche

      April 15 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 0 °C

Bleary eyed, and chronically short on altitude hindered sleep, it was time for another day. After the events of yesterday, we planned a later start but still my throat remained shredded from the incessant coughing and spluttering caused by the parched alpine air. And nor had it been just me struggling with the altitude, Thomas wavering between lightheadedness and headaches in his lack of sleep. As per yesterday's post, we had a decision to make: Gokyo and glory, off to more challenging trekking and dreamy views, or descents and sensibility, down to care for our own ailments.

We decided on the latter. Given the agonising speed at which we'd conquered Kala Patthar the previous day (and without our bags for that matter), we decided we'd best not push our luck, and regrettably descended back the way we came. Rather than riding the ridge back to Dingboche though, we deviated from the path, taking a lower route through a wide river valley to Pheriche. This was a gorgeous section: easy, quiet and vast. At Pheriche, we then found a cracking café-bakery to stop for some lunch. Thomas enjoyed rich chocolate cake while spotting yaks roaming high on the mountainside, while I finally got my fill of burger I'd been craving for a while now (and boy it was good.) The rest of the day, we retraced our steps in the blustery conditions and found ourselves having descended over 1,000 m to Pangboche, which will hopefully aid in our acclimatisation.

Everest Base Camp Trek - Day 4

      November 30, 2019 in Nepal ⋅ 🌙 -10 °C

Today we left Namche to trek to Tengboche, an elevation of 3,860 meters. It was a very challenging day!! The day started with a half hour steep hike out of Namche, and then the trail was fairly up and down for about 2 hours. We stopped for lunch at 11:00 and while this was a bit early, there would be no more lunch spots until Tengboche. The most challenging part of today was a straight up 600 meters which takes 2 hours to complete before reaching Tengboche. Because we are each carrying our own packs, this was really hard. We split our time into trekking for 30 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break. The girls did so well, although Sophie is feeling the effects of the altitude and was not feeling well all day.

The day offered clear blue skies and beautiful temperatures. Clear skies meant that we got full views of Everest!! For most of the morning, Everest was always to the right of us in the distance. The scenery is absolutely stunning! It is amazing to be so close to the tallest mountain. Along the way we met a stray dog who the girls named Berry, more yak, a horse, mountain sheep, an eagle and some cats. Berry probably trekked with us for 2 hours and ate our leftover lunch.

Before trekking EBC we had read about altitude sickness and the effects of altitude, but until you experience it, you don't really get it. The only one who seems to not be bothered by the altitude is Neve. Both Sophie and David are easily winded, so we really are trekking at a very slow and steady pace.

We are currently staying at the Tashi Delek Lodge, which has a nice big sitting room where so many trekkers are enjoying each others company. People are chatting, reading or playing cards. I love the sense of community and meeting new people from all over the world. We even learned a new Nepali card game to add to our repertoire.

Tomorrow we trek to Dingboche, which will hopefully take a bit less time and be marginally "easier."

      Langer Weg nach Pangboche

      November 9, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -2 °C

Waiting for the helicopter part 2

      October 11, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -3 °C

We got up mega early, packed, had breakfast and waited for helicopter news. At first Lukla was closed and all choppers were in Kathmandu.
Then we heard exciting news that a chopper was on its way but had to turn around at Khote because of low cloud.
So we have been trying to keep warm listening to the howling wind and watching the clouds swirling around. We have a few more hours to go until they say there is no more chance.
      Fingers crossed.

      At Base Camp 5400m

      October 8, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 2 °C

We all made the 2 hour trek up the hill and across the moraine to base camp. It was very rocky and my knee was not happy. At one point Sherpa Tendi had to rescue me from the rocks and help me up.
It should look very amazing here but the cloud has come over and can’t see much.
We have our tents set up and a cute Little Rock cabin for eating and having cups of tea. We have our own chef who came up with us to prepare our delicious food.
ALLE and I had fried rice and a ginger tea for lunch.
We went to bed in our lovely new tents and snuggled in to keep warm.

Michis Geburtstag und Ankunft in Khare

      October 19, 2023 in Nepal ⋅ ⛅ -4 °C
