    Almost three years ago I decided to go on a world trip. My first stop was planned to be Cape Town… and then Corona came along and I ended up to staying another year in my home town. Now three years later I embark on almost the same journey I had previously planned 🤗

    The journey to Cape Town was quite thrilling as the plane from Stuttgart to Frankfurt was over an hour delayed due to iced wings. However I made it to the final plane 10 minutes before the gate closed.

    One of the first things I always do in a new country is a food tour. This time I joined a very special one. Our tour guide Dennis was taking us to places I would have never got into by myself because I they looked really really strange for a foreigner. Sometimes I thought we are getting robbed or kidnapped for sure😅 but I was wrong. I was surprised by the most authentic and delicious food ever. Although they do not really look like that 😁

    Dennis also shared so much interesting facts about the history and the different communities and the food variety of South Africa. We had local food and also dishes from Senegal and Somalia and even a fusion of different countries.

    My personal highlight was the heaven coffee which was run by a former homeless guy who randomly asked the church if he can open up a coffee inside the church and they agreed 😁 I also discovered a new coffee called cafe touba which is a spice blend of djar (selim pepper) and cloves roasted together with coffee beans 👌    Read more

    Neighbourgood Hill - Coliving

    Usually I book Airbnbs to stay and a coworking space to work from. This time I decided to go with a coliving/coworking place called Neighbourgood. They have several locations in Cape Town and you can also work from the other places. The one I'm staying also has a little coffee called Nourish'd with very delicious food and drinks.Read more

    Authentic African Cooking Class

    This weekend I joined a cooking class. To my surprise I was the only one who joined the class. Which was really nice because I was able to really connect with the family and cooked all the dishes by myself :) We had an great time chatting and cooking diverse dishes and appetizers.

    I tried several new things like Mopane worms or fried termites, which was strange to eat but the taste was actually ok. We also prepared two main dishes and the famous Pap that is servered to almost every meal. Pap is a kind of porridge made from maize meal and can be cooked to be soft or stiff.    Read more

    Lion’s Head Sunset Hike

    Together with some friends from Neighbourgood Hill we hiked up the iconic Lion’s Head! The mountain is located in between Signal Hill and Table Mountain.

    I have seen some amazing sunsets in Bali already but this one was just out of this world.

    The clouds coming down Table Mountain was also very fascinating to watch.    Read more

    Table Mountain Morning Hike

    Today was the day. I finally "went up" to Table Mountain. Most of the days the top is covered in clouds but not today :-)

    Shame on me I took the cable car up. #sonotgerman. To my defense I planned a 3.5 hour hike on top of the mountain and I still had client calls in the afternoon and I definitely wanted to do the hike today 😇.Read more

    As the coworking area at Neighbourgood was way to busy I switched to a more "office like" coworking space. I really enjoyed working from here. Not just because of the great view on table mountrain but also the area was full of coffee places and restaurants.Read more

    Diving in the Kelp Forest

    This morning I was diving for the first time in a kelp forest. It was really cool and very different from what I’m used to in Asia.

    Sadly the water was not very clear but I’ll do it again for sure 🤿

    Quick stop in Muizenberg

    On this quick stop in Muizenberg along the Garden Route I visited Pierre. A friend I met in Cape Town. He was actually the yoga teacher at Neighbourgood and we became friends from day one.

    Meet the kids at BNC

    Over the last weeks I've been visiting the BNC (The Bernhard Nordkamp Centre) to volunteer. It's a save place for kids to go to in the afternoon after school. It was very heartbraking to hear that those kids experience a lot of violence in their regular school and even at home.

    Volunteers come to help the kids with reading, playing games or just talking to them and being a positive role model.

    But the kids very quickly figured out what I'm good for :-D which is doing fun yoga, lifting them up into the air and spinning them around.    Read more

    I'm very happy and exited to explore this adventurous vulcanic island toghether with Caroline :-)

    Exploring a lava tunnel is someting realy special to me. It's such a sureal experience. Knowing that a couple of years ago incredibly hot lava was running through those tunnels and at the same time it all looks like being on a different planet and every second an alien appears :-)Read more

    Hike to La Chapelle

    "Canalisation des Orangers" Hike

    This is the hike we saw a couple of days ago. It's called "Canalisation des Orangers". We quickly assumed that we know why it's called Canalisation :-D because the trail was very muddy and wet. However along the hike we also saw some huge water pipes so there is actually running a canalisation system along the whole path.Read more
