    Old Town Dubrovnik at Night

    This town is great! Very Venetian, which makes sense since Croatia (old Dalmatia) had such ties with Venice.

    One building looks quite a bit like the Doge's Palace.

    Lots of Game of Thrones stuff everywhere too (since the walls are where they filmed King's Landing) - even a shame mojito. They ring a bell after you buy it...Baca selengkapnya

    It is located just in center of old town, few meters from everything .Close to Buza gate,

    This is a beautiful 15th century property that enables you to truly experience the spirit of the Old town of Dubrovnik.
    Villa Mila is a newly renovated old stone house, restored with love and care, fully furnished, most suitable for families or smaller groups of up to 6 people.
    Spend memorable moments on our spectacular roof top terrace enjoying panoramic views of the Old town: famous red rooftops of Dubrovnik, St Blaise’s Church, Cathedral and the sea.

    It has 5 stories each one covering approx. 25 sq m, which, along with the roof terrace, makes a total of 120 sq m.
    The villa has 3 bedrooms: 1 double room, 2 single rooms, 1 bathroom / wc with bathtub and one bathroom with shower.
    As this property has 5 levels accessible only by steps, it would not suit customers with walking difficulties or those with very young children.
    From the entrance a corridor leads to the staircase up to the lounge area located on the first floor with a sofa for 2.
    The second floor contains one double bedroom with en-suite toilet/shower room.
    A spiral staircase leads to the third floor with 2 single bedrooms and a bathroom. In one of the bedrooms a single bed could be converted into a double one.
    The fourth floor has an open plan kitchen/diner/lounge area with a beautiful view of the old city.
    An outside staircase leads to the roof top terrace on the 5th floor with beautiful views over the old city and the sea line.
    The house is air-conditioned. In addition to a satellite/cable TV, it has a cassette, CD and radio player.
    The owner also provided cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils, as well as an electric bbq for the roof top terrace.
    The bathroom on the third floor is equipped with a washing machine and a hairdryer.
    In the house there are steps , so it is not suitable for elderly people,and people with a small children.

    Located inside the city wals of Dubrovnik, Villa Mila beautifylly restored 15 century luxury villa, enables you to truly experience the spirit of Old Town of Dubrovnik.

    Lokrum Island

    Just a 15 min ferry ride away, this island is so beautiful! Legend has it that Richard the Lionhearted washed up here after a shipwreck. We hiked up to the old fort along the inappropriately named Path of Paradise.

    Walking Tour of Dubrovnik

    This was a fantastic tour of Dubrovnik. Our guide Vlaho is a long-term resident of the old town and fought in the defense of the town in 1991. He was excellent at covering huge amounts of history in succinct and interesting ways. If he decides to stop being a tour guide, he really ought to be a history professor.

    We learned that we pretty much all pronounce Dubrovnik wrong, even people in other parts of Croatia. Natives to the area call it DUB-rove-nik.

    There's a bit of old Latin graffiti from a monk to the boys who kept playing football in front of the monastery: Peace be with you, remember that you, playing with the ball, will die. I guess even monks lose their patience sometimes.

    Dubrovnik's highest value is freedom, or "Libertas", which we saw everywhere. They managed to stay free for a long time by playing both sides or paying people off to be allowed to remain free. They were the only area in the region that was still allowed a great deal of autonomy under the Ottoman Empire. They even outlawed slavery in the 1400s.

    Rectors only served for a month at a time and were completely cut off from anyone's that it could be no possibility of bribes to try to ensure that justice would be served and that they would not be able to use their position to help themselves.    Baca selengkapnya

    Wall Walk

    This is one of the main attractions in Dubrovnik. Thank goodness we took the advice to start it at 8:00 a.m. We took our time and it took about an hour and a half and it was already blazingly hot by the time we got to the end. Such beautiful views.

    Fort Lovrijenac

    This fort had 12 m thick walls on the outside but very thin walls on the inside. That way if it was ever taken by an enemy the cannons from the city would be able to fire on the thin wall and hopefully retake it.

    Traditional Dubrovnik Needlework

    This lady has a shop just below our apartment. It's in the house that she was born in and she was very passionate about passing on this traditional needlework skill to her children and also keeping the house, despite many offers to sell to restaurants and souvenir shops. Everything you can see in the picture she does by hand, she finds it soothing to do after her day job as an insurance agent. She first started learning when she was 4 years old.

    Her daughter also knows the skill but is a pediatrician and her patients say she has the neatest stitches of any doctor haha.

    Mostar - Mosque

    You can't get to Split from Dubrovnik without going through Bosnia and Herzegovina, so we made the most of it with a stop in Mostar. This town is where East meets West, and has a strong Muslim influence from the 400 years of the Ottoman Empire. This is the first mosque the girls and I have been in.

    The famous bridge was commissioned by Sulyman, and was destroyed in the 1990s. They rebuilt using stones from the same quarry and using original methods.    Baca selengkapnya

    Mostar - Coppersmith's Street

    This was the main market street. Our guide told us it's the closest thing to a Turkish market this side of Istanbul.

    Jumpers minutes to get any videos or pictures of stand on the bridge until they collect enough money to jump. It's quite a jump and we didn't have time to wait for all of the theatrics to see him actually do it. However, we did over here a tourist asking if she could jump and she seemed pretty serious about it. They will let tourists but only with some training first, and it's not recommended...Baca selengkapnya

    Our apartment is part of Diocletian's Palace! We're up top in the converted attic space.

    This is one of the few places in the world where people built into abandoned ruins and are still living there today, right on top of the Roman ruins. There are apartments, cafes, theaters and lots of shopping all throughout the palace.

    We are located in the heart of the town Split, on the north-east tower of the Diocletian palace, which is 1700 years old.
    A three bedrooms apartment can accommodate 6 people.

    In the vicinity is air terminal, ferry, bus and railway station.

    Near the apartment is a cheap public parking.

    You should visit the unique cultural monument in the world in witch people still live. In newly renovated apartment we offer to our guests: three rooms, one with twin bed and two with two single-beds. The kitchen is equipped with dishwasher and everything else you need to prepare a meal.In the bathroom we have washing machine.
    We have all the equipment for babies: cot, high chair for eaiting...

    The apartment has free wireless internet, air-condition and guests have SAT-TV on their disposal, which we believe will not have time to watch, because of the wonderful view on the walls of the Diocletian palace, the hill Marjan, city port, sea, the st, Duje cathedral bell tower and old town roof tops.

    Éowyn's 8th Birthday

    Éowyn was very excited to spend her 8th birthday in Croatia. We found a cake place that would even make her a cake.

    We did a tour and spent the day at the beach (many of you may have already received pictures and videos about this, haha).

    Split Walking Tour

    This was a fascinating tour of the history of old town Split.

    I had mistakenly thought that the town was named after the split of the Roman Empire, however, it actually comes from a Greek word for colony that was shortened by the Romans and then shortened again by the Croatians down to Split.

    Diocletian was raised in a Christian home, but upon becoming emperor converted to the Roman religion and became a severe persecutor of Christians. He is most famous for dividing the Roman Empire.

    His successor, however, was Constantine who legalized Christianity. Diocletian had built himself a mausoleum that he expected to be buried in, however he was not. Instead, ironically, it became a Catholic church.

    Everyday at noon in the peristyle there's a brief show with Roman soldiers and an actor playing Diocletian who comes out and speaks a few words of Latin.    Baca selengkapnya
