Welcome. I created this travelogue to document my father's trip to France. We will be in Paris for a few days, then will travel to Normandy to visit the D-Day invasion beaches and other sites. Our base will be in Bayeux when we are in Normandy. Laurie and Brittany made most of the travel arrangements, so thanks to them for doing this. I am sure the trip will be flawless. Lisa will be taking care of Scoot (and the cats, chickens and parrots) while I am gone, so thanks to her also. Most of all, thanks to Dad's neighbor Deb, who will be looking after Honeypot, Blossom, and the rest of dad's critters.
Next Saturday, June 23 will begin the adventure. The plan is for me to fly from my house on St. Simons Island up to St. Marys county to pick up my father and fly him back to St. Simons. The next day we will leave from Jacksonville headed for Paris.
Normally I am not much of a picture taker, but this trip will be different, as I know a lot of people will be interested in Dad's experience. I will try to post daily.
Starting off, here is a picture of Dad and I with my Cirrus that was taken a few years ago.

Dad has mastered “The Delayed Flight” look already! After several announced delays, their plane coming from Charlotte is finally on its way-shortly they should be in the air from Jacksonville to Charlotte and then onto Charles De Gaulle Airport in ParisOkumaya devam et

What is it about the Ryans’ -why does everything turn into an ordeal? So just as Dad gets all settled into his luxury first class cabin-the plane decides to fly around for a couple hours to burn fuel so it can LAND AGAIN in CHARLOTTE. Something with an electronic malfunction and it was not permitted to fly overseas! So, back to Charlotte for a new plane. Dad is hanging in there but, is pretty darn hungry by nowOkumaya devam et

Finally, arrived in Paris very early this morning, grabbed taxi, off to hotel for some sleep. First, tourist photo of the day begins just down the street from the hotel-Notre Dame. Then, grab a little dinner at a cafe on the Left Bank-tres chic! After dinner, catch a little entertainment-street performers “break dancing”! Yea-think Dad is getting rested and into the groove now!Okumaya devam et

Dad sleeping and eating well but, still having a little 2nd day “jet lag”. Some work (conference) for me in the morning and then off for site seeing in the afternoon. An absolute mandatory pic-“Eiffel Tower”. My French colleagues and I at our booth at the World Nuclear Exhibition. After a few meetings, I snuck out to go hang with Dad. On Dad’s bucket list was some European history with the tomb of Napoleon at Invalides. Also strolled through the French military museum, Dad loved this, especially the suits of armor and weapons from the tenth-sixteenth centuries-pretty cool. Dad is really enjoying the cafe culture in France. We have been eating our meals at sidewalk cafes. He is amazed that people just sit there for hours, smoking cigarettes after ordering one stupid cup of coffee. In the US, they would chase them out, or maybe arrest them if they weren’t white.Okumaya devam et

American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. Dad really enjoyed visiting Omaha Beach. Reminiscing about people who he knew from his childhood who died during WWll. Next was Pointe du Hoc-the location where the Army Rangers scaled a 90ft cliff on D-Day. The Ranger Monument and Dad overlooking the cliff where the Rangers attacked. Less popular with Dad was the Bayeux Tapestry. He is not into William the Conqueror and medieval history. Tomorrow is Sainte-Mere-Eglise and Juno Beach.Okumaya devam et

At Arromanches on Gold Beach, if you look closely you can see remains of the Mulberry Harbor off the beach. Dad really enjoyed today. Feeling good, getting great sleep, really enjoying having Erin and Jon along. He is also enjoying being pushed around in this chair-perhaps a little too much but, all is good as all three of us take turns. Tomorrow, we visit the Farmer’s Market in Bayeux then onto the Caen Museum. Catching a train later in the day back to Paris.Okumaya devam et

I think the Saturday Market in Bayeux might have been Dad’s favorite sight of the whole trip. Here he is in front of a paella stand. Dad thought that with his wheelchair he might be able to pick up a few euros selling flowers! Had to stop at the fish monger stand. Note the shark on the scale.Okumaya devam et
