Bandera, "Cowboy Capital of the World", bekam seinen Spitznamen durch die riesigen Kuhherden die Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts durch die Stadt gegen Norden getrieben wurden. In zwanzig Jahren zogen so rund 30'000 Cowboys durch die Stadt und mit ihnen rund 10 Millionen Kühe, die meisten davon die bekannten "Longhorns". Die Kuhherden sind längst Geschichte, der Cowboy-Spirit hingegen ist geblieben. Cowboyhüte und Stiefel werden auch heute noch im Alltag getragen und die Fassanden des Ortes erinnern fast schon klischeehaft an alte Westernstädte wie man sie aus Erzählungen kennt.

Bandera, the "Cowboy Capital of the World", earned its nickname from the huge herds of cattle that were driven north through the town at the end of the 19th century. Over a period of twenty years, around 30,000 cowboys passed through the town, bringing with them around 10 million cattle, most of them the famous longhorns. The herds of cattle are long gone, but the cowboy spirit remains. Cowboy hats and boots are still worn today, and the town's facades are almost clichéd reminders of the old Western towns we know from stories.Leggi altro
