Wenn es irgendwo in der Umgebung eine antike Ruine zu sehen gibt, kann man sicher sein, dass Raphael sie finden wird. Und so ist es auch heute: Wir besuchen den Kaiserpalast von Sirmium.
Sirmium war eine der bedeutendsten Städte des späten Römischen Reiches und gehörte im 3. und 4. Jahrhundert zu den wichtigsten Residenzstädten der römischen Kaiser. Hier wurden mehrere römische Kaiser geboren oder regierten zeitweise von diesem Ort aus. Die freigelegten Reste des Kaiserpalastes erinnern daran, dass das heutige Sremska Mitrovica einst zu den wichtigsten Machtzentren Europas gehörte.
Somit: Bildungsauftrag erfüllt. 😉📚

If there are any ancient ruins to be seen anywhere in the area, you can be sure that Raphael will find them. And that’s exactly what’s happening today: we’re visiting the Imperial Palace of Sirmium.
Sirmium was one of the most significant cities of the late Roman Empire and, in the 3rd and 4th centuries, was one of the most important residential cities of the Roman emperors. Several Roman emperors were born here or ruled from this location for a time. The excavated remains of the Imperial Palace serve as a reminder that today’s Sremska Mitrovica was once one of Europe’s most important centres of power.
