    Arriving in Ferrol

    May 20, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

Up at 5am to catch the 6am bus to A Coruña and then Ferrol. Now, we’re here and checked into the municipal Albergue, a building that reminds me of the glass Cube in Berlin at the Hauptbahnhof. I just met Irene from Korea (she now lives in Vienna) who will walk to Santiago in four days. We will walk it in five. Jessica from Colorado is coming up from Santiago by train. Earlier today, she arrived there from her 3-day walk from Muxia.Read more

  • Day Two - Pontedeume

    May 21, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

Today we walked about 17 miles, leaving Ferrol and going around water and up and down hills. It was sunny and beautiful, in the 60s but feeling hotter, as it does here with the humidity - around 65%. Tonight, we’re with Jessica (from Ft Collins, CO) at a nice private albergue. Top bunk for me! I just enjoyed a tortilla for dinner. 😋Read more

  • Day Three - Batanzas

    May 23, 2025 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 48 °F

The walk today was long with some steep hills, but it was a beautiful trek. We met Dahlia the Camino horse who greets pilgrims on the road.
It’s me, my friend Lee from Muxia (Swedish/English), and Jessica from Colorado. Tonight, we’re in the municipal albergue in the middle of this beautiful old city, walled and on a hill with lots of stone.
25km today and about the same tomorrow.

  • Day Four - Hopsital de Bruma

    May 23, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

I was up early this morning! People began getting up as early as 4:30. I got up around 5:30 setting off at 6:26 with a lovely moon and Venus in the sky up above. Walking out of Betanzos at that hour was quiet and beautiful. The sun rose about 40 minutes later. The distance was almost the same as yesterday (25km), but today felt so much better! There were a LOT of hills and inclines, but somehow my legs were less heavy. It was a nice walk, few places to stop along the way. It was two and a half hours before we reached an open café, so coffee was later than expected. I had two café con leches and a tostada with butter and jam. It was yummy!
25km later, Lee and I reached our municipal albergue before 1:00! We were racing for a bed since there are only 22 and no other lodging available in the little hamlet of Hospital de Bruma. But we were there in plenty of time and can now sink into our bunks and rest easy. We have beds reserved for tomorrow, so no more concerns for a place to sleep. We’ll join up with Jessica tomorrow.

  • Day Five - Sigüeiro

    May 24, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Up and out by 7am. It was nice and cool out. The walk today was much flatter than the last three days, which was a relief. It was another 25kms. I was tired today, and my feet were complaining, so it was nice to get into Sigüeiro around 1.30. Tonight we’re in an albergue with twin beds rather than bunks. It’s a nice place and breakfast is included! Tomorrow is a short day, 15km, so it feels like our Camino is practically done. I’ve really enjoyed it. Have met some great people and seen lovely towns and countryside.Read more

  • Final day - Santiago!

    May 25, 2025 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Today was a short one, just 15km. I woke up early and decided to set out after breakfast at the albergue, so I was walking out of Sigüeiro by 7am. I walked alone today with my own Camino thoughts and reflections. It was cool and misty and I decided on an alternate route that got me off the road and into a forested area. Nice. My legs are tired and sore and I’ve had a very painful big toe that kept me preoccupied much of the morning.
It was great to walk into Santiago again, now my familiar “home”. Jessica and Lee were behind me by about an hour and we all met up to celebrate on the cathedral plaza, with Margaret to meet us. 😊
We had a good lunch, a menu del DIA with scallops, hake, and a torte for dessert. Then went to the pilgrim office for our Compostela.
Now Lee and I are wandering around before catching the 5:00 bus back to Muxia. Home and my own bed!!
    It’s been a great Camino.
