    Kinkaku-ji

    14 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The golden pavilion (Kinkaku) is a shariden containing relics of Buddha and is part of Rokuon-ji Temple. This pavilion is representative of Muromachi-period architecture. There is also a detached teahouse built during the Edo period named for its beauty in the late afternoon sun, Sekkatei.Okumaya devam et

    Ryōan-ji

    14 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Originally a country house, in 1450 Ryōan-ji was converted into a zen training temple. It features a rock garden said to be created by the highly respected Zen monk Tokuho Zenketsu at the end of the Muromachi period around 1500.Okumaya devam et

    Nijōjō

    15 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The nightingale floors squeak when you walk on them. Although this may have been an unintentional result of the architecture aging, it does prevent intruders from sneaking around the palace at night.

    Ōhara

    16 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Saw the “bear sighting” warning after returning from a hike to Otonashi no Taki (waterfall with no sounds). Tried shibazuke pickles, a sort of eggplant-based local specialty, and enjoyed walking around the rice and vegetable fields in the village. Had sukiyaki for dinner with raw egg as a sauce.Okumaya devam et

    Sanzen-in Temple

    16 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Shukeki-en and Yusei-en gardens: “Mountains and water have clear notes of their own” [Chinese poet Zuo Si]. The statues are warabe—jizō, which I think either represent guardian deities of children or children that have reached enlightenment.Okumaya devam et

    Jakko-in Temple

    16 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

This temple features a 1000-year-old Himekomatsu (pine tree), but it was injured in a fire (arson) on May 9th, 2000, and has since died.

    Hosen-in Temple

    17 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Matcha green tea looking out at the 700-year-old pine tree in the garden. The planks of the ceiling here in the main hall are from Fushimi castle in Kyoto. Around 1600 there was a battle there. The samurai lost the fight and 370 committed seppuku (classical suicide of samurai). Traces of their blood can be seen in the planks overhead.Okumaya devam et

    Fushimi Inari

    18 Ekim 2019, Japonya ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Fushimi Inari-taisha is the most important of the (many) shrines to Inari, the Shinto god of rice and agriculture. Lining the mountain path are thousands of torii, and there are many fox (kitsune) statues as well, as the fox is the messenger of Inari; the foxes often hold a key to the rice granary in their mouths.Okumaya devam et
