      Jour 12 - Balade à Bratislava

      Au programme du jour : visite de la capitale Slovaque 🇸🇰

      Nous avons débuté la journée par un petit déjeuner dans un café bio. Puis avons entamé la visite de la ville à pieds (eh oui pause de vélo aujourd’hui ! ), car notre logement se trouve en plein centre ville.

      Nous avons fait le tour de plusieurs quartiers et monuments incontournables : palais présidentiel, cathédrales, place principale, … puis nous nous sommes promenés le long du Danube.

      Nous avons ensuite déjeuné en centre ville et pris un dessert rafraîchissant pour ne pas trop souffrir des températures (27 degrés)🍦

      Après avoir repris des forces, nous nous sommes dirigés vers le château de Bratislava (Bratislavský hrad en Slovaque). Il a fallu grimper l’équivalent de 21 étages avant d’atteindre les portes de l’édifice, situé en haut d’une colline.

      Nous sommes redescendus au coucher de soleil et avons dîné au centre ville, dans un petit restaurant local où nous avons pu déguster des plats typiques : goulash de bœuf et sheep cheese accompagnés de bière et vin slovaques.

      Bien que l’on ai marché 14km et grimpé 21 étages pour visiter Bratislava aujourd’hui, cette journée nous a permis de récupérer pour attaquer nos deux derniers jours de vélo en pleine forme 😋

      Demain, la journée s’annonce longue avec au programme, la plus longue distance à vélo de notre périple (120km) 🚲

      A walk up to the upside-down table (Bratislava Castle) this afternoon, a relatively new structure by European standards which sounds like it likes to periodically burn down. It also afforded a great view of the UFO-like Bridge of Slovakian National Uprising, which is interesting as a cable structure and as it has a restaurant at the top!Lue lisää

      Ich hatte es ja vorher irgendwie ein bißchen im Gefühl, keine Ahnung warum: Bratislava hat mich sofort eingefangen - Rainer tat mir schon ein bißchen Leid, weil ich ungefähr alle 3 Meter fotografieren musste und dazwischen ständig "oh mein Gott, ist das schön hier" von mir gab 😇
      Hier hätte ich wahnsinnig gern mehr Zeit verbracht, mir mehr angeschaut und mich belesen, aber das holen wir bestimmt mal nach.
      Bratislava ist echt nochmal eine Reise wert ❤️      Lue lisää

      Oct 1 - Walking Tour of Bratislava

      We had the afternoon to ourselves, so we decided to do a walking tour of the city using the Scenic app on our phones. It guided us around the city and “boinged” when we got to the next attraction. There, we would listen to the ~1.5-minute description and view a few pictures. We were out for over three hours – there is so much to see in this beautiful city. We spent most of our time in the Old City. Despite the warm temperatures and the many, many steps, we did climb all the way up to the castle and to the National Museum. We were rewarded with great views over the city and got to see a huge wind farm. Enjoy the pictures!Lue lisää

      Bratislava - Burg

      Eines, wenn nicht das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist die Burg, die auf einem Felsen oberhalb der Stadt thront (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bratislavaer_Burg). Vom Baustil her nicht unbedingt besonders hervorstechend (ursprünglich romanisch, später erst im gotischen, dann im Renaissancestil und im 18. Jahrhundert schließlich im als „theresianisch“ bezeichneten Stil umgebaut.). Jedoch machen sich die seit 2008 laufenden Renovierungsarbeiten deutlich bemerkbar. Der gesamte Komplex wirkt wie aus dem Ei gepellt.Lue lisää

      Братислава 🇸🇰
      Очередной город и страна в копилку 😍
      Честно? Ну на один день и город и страна.
      Отошёл все достопримечательности за три часа.

      Вообще заезжал в Братиславу забрать Зеленую карту, но с удовольствием прогулялся и даже встретил Доминику Цибулкову, которая спокойно пила кофе в открытом кафе. С удовольствием сфотографировалась и мило поболтала. Рад такой встрече 💝      Lue lisää

      Bratislava Castle

      Mostly a reconstructed castle, Bratislava castle sits at the top of one of the many hills of Bratislava, the castle has never ever been attacked. It was the seat of Austria monarchy and a firm favourite of Maria Theresa who would come from Austria for a holiday- she probably come for the cheap beer!

      Today though it’s a great spot for looking out across to Austria, and Hungary, and over to the socialist part of the city with its towering apartment blocks.      Lue lisää

      🇸🇰 Bratislava sin planear

      ... Estando en el Danubio el Sábado les pregunté que a dónde iban esos barcos y me dicen a Bratislava, estamos como a una hora si quieren podemos ir el domingo... Evita y yo nos miramos y dijimos en voz alta "Ahuevooooo" Entonces el plan se hizo y en la mañana del domingo fuimos a buscar el auto que tienen prestado para conocer por fin la capital Eslovaca.

      ... Una hora de camino y ahí estábamos...
      Un viaje corto pero bien aprovechado, conocimos el famoso Castillo, el Palacio Presidencial, El palacio Primario, nos dejamos llevar por sus calles, disfrutamos de su comida tradicional y de sus cervezas de regreso dejamos a Evita en el aeropuerto.

      .... De regreso pasamos al súper y disfrutamos de una rica pasta y una película mexicana...

      ... A la mañana siguiente tomé temprano el tren rumbo al aeropuerto y así fue el fin largo con las roomies alemanas de la casa verde.      Lue lisää

      Day trip to Slovakia today, just an hour from Vienna. However, the weather was absolutely not with us! We walked in the rain from the train station through the sights of Bratislava - past the Presidential Palace, the Blue Church (sadly closed) and Cumil before stopping for a warming coffee and cake. We continued on through the Old Town, down the Danube and up to the Castle.

      At the castle, there we a growing array of people in period costume, so we hung around. Turns out it was a three-day annual celebration of historical coronations at the castle. The huge procession walked from the castle to the town for a day of events (and past the National Council of the Slovak Republic). The rain eased off as we waited, which was welcome, and once they were formed up we followed the procession into town.

      We peeled off before the end to head up to the Slavin, a monument to, and cemetery of, the over-6,000 Soviet soldiers who died liberating the city from the Nazis. This huge monument on a hilltop was both immense and solemn.

      Wet Wet Wet!

      It had to happen.
      50 days with barely any rain….& today that ended ☔️
      We had a slow start, but wrapped up against the cold rain & set off to visit the quirky Galéria Multium. A tiny gallery with a handful of small rooms with quite stunning optical illusions. Great to see it was not created by a physicist or artist, but by an IT bloke!
      On up to a very wet Bratislava Castle. An impressive slab, evidence dates back to hundreds of years BC, but from 1811 until 1953 it became a ruin. It was finally rebuilt and houses some exhibitions of the Slovak National Museum.

      With it being so wet, you’d think we dropped inside for a look.
      Well, the ticket office was like the Marie Celeste. We were forced to amble around the grounds, getting steadily more drenched.
      After some moist photos, we headed back down the hill to the old town.

      On our way down, a chance for Google Translate to shine: two people coming up jabbered at us in Slovak…..I said “sorry”, then held the phone up and got the young man to repeat it into that….they were asking if it was the route to the castle…..I spoke into it and it told them (in Slovak!) “yes it is, but it looked closed”. I am now a local tour guide, anywhere in the world 💪

      We briefly ducked into St. Martin's Cathedral, but there were roaming gangs of clergymen, so we headed back outside. On a nicer day, we might have walked the walls, but today we needed to get inside.

      After a walk through the old town, we discovered Funki Punki: great value for a delicious soup and pancakes….but maybe choosing the Elvis was a tiny mistake…who knew that peanut butter, blueberry jam and plum tomatoes might be a weird combo 🤪

      With postcards written, we headed to the Post Office for some stamps. What a fabulous building inside! Beautiful ceiling and ornate wooden teller windows.

      Back at the apartment, we could finally warm up and dry off. Some admin and highlighting our adventures in the map, then the last of Frank’s beer and a few episodes of Queen Charlotte to round off our evening 👍      Lue lisää
