  • KK channeling her inner Doc!

Doc Jr is in the house!

    May 23, 2019 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

So, we are pretty sure Gamma managed to get “beamed” to Hampton Court and now we are pretty sure Doc managed to extricate himself from his physical form and took over KK’s body! Hard to see in this picture, but I’m not sure who has who cornered! I do know that we are leaving so hopefully Gamma has some chores for Doc, and KK can come back to us!Read more

  • Ready to go
Just kidding, its time for a quick picnic!

Time to head for a bed!

    May 23, 2019 in England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Castle is done, town has been visited, and it’s time to go find a bed! Fingers crossed we make it back through that devils den of a roadway, but I figure if the Vikings could hack their way across the land 1500 years ago, this Viking can get through 60 miles of rush hour traffic! Time to fuel up!Read more

  • Its just better over here!

    Finally to base camp!

    May 23, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Well, it was another harrowing drive, fraught with white knuckles, wrong turns, and a very loud annoying chicken in the back seat (who fortunately finally went to sleep!), but we did make it to our hotel for our first night.

Kathy, if KK was nervous about roller coasters before, her fears should be all gone, girl has nerves of steel now! She may be a little shy the next time she gets behind the wheel, but she shouldn’t ever hesitate before an adrenaline filled activity again!

So, as we get ready to crash for the night, I’d like to send a heartfelt and loving cheers to my family and friends! We miss you, love you, and wish you were here (mainly so someone else could do the driving and I could do the drinking!).

A good way to end an absolutely beautiful day!

  • There she is!
Walking up to the gate!Groupies are becoming all the rage! That's the best looking moat I've ever seen!Taylor is still looking for that Harry Potter ride at the end of this queue!Duty, honor, country! We thought this was the right shirt for this picture!St Georges chapel looking back up to the keep. The upper quadrangle where they jousted in the olden days.

    Windsor!!! Denise is so happy!

    May 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Well, we were a little late getting started, and seeing how the iPads keyboard is dead, I’m trying to do this post from my phone. So Doc, I know you are going to be checking my grammar and to that I say 😝. To be honest, your grand daughter is doing a fine job, actually both of them, of telling me about my errors!

We had a slow start to the day, even though Denise and I woke up at 7:30 am. I really thought we’d have no trouble getting up, but Taylor and I channeled our inner Connor and discovered that we could sleep as long as we needed to! We did manage to get going and after a really good breakfast (I honestly don’t remember them being this good!) we got started and headed to Windsor.

Denise and I were here in the late 90’s and didn’t get a chance to go in due to the fire. She’s been really excited for this and I think it lived up to the expectations. Honestly, if Daniel Craig had showed up shirtless, I think she still would have chosen Windsor (though we may not have seen Taylor or KK again!). After parking in King Edward the VII’s car park, where apparently midget cars used to park, we strolled up the road and around the corner to the castle. Once there, we stared at an hour long queue waiting to get into the castle - ugh 🤢🤮. Fortunately, we had Denise and she wasn’t about to be stopped by a bunch of Asian and US tourists standing in a line. Striding up to the gate and declaring, I am woman, hear me roar.... the attendant told her the line was for people in coach tours and we could just walk up! Crisis averted (though I was scared she was just telling me that and at any moment the Bobbies would be coming for me!

As it turned out, there was still a queue, only it was 30 minutes, and much to Tay’s dismay, there was not a Harry Potter ride at the end of it! About the only excitement we had was when KK and all her “coins” got pulled over after the x-ray machine. Tay kept telling me we should chant “Lock her up!” But I reminded her that she needed her for London!

As it turned out, we had another gorgeous morning and the castle/palace was awesome. Hard to believe it’s been here since the 1100’s and been lived in by the royals for over 800 years...I’m pretty sure they’ll be talking about the poor girl whose parents wouldn’t let her decorate her chocolate bar for another 800 years!

  • Here's the traffic I've been looking for!
Cool, calm and collected! (Secretly hoping he brought more underwear!)Um, does he know what he's doing? It doesnt matter, I found Denise's Xanex!!!Ha ha, I told you I could sleep anywhere! And sleeping is better than watching this craziness!

    Mischief in the car

    May 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Finished with Windsor and time to high tail it to Blenheim Palace. We’ve got about an hour drive, which unbeknownst to us at the time, would include a 20 minute detour and our driver pissing off a small village!!! Apparently people waiting at the crosswalk when there is a light don’t have the right of way. Dads and moms with their kids in a small village ABSOLUTELY have the right of way.... Oops!Read more

  • Like I said, get used to the "Groupies!"
Walking up to the gate - we've seen bigger!Wow! Way more imoressive than we first thought! Well, some of us were just camera happy!Gamma, remember how you didnt want a long hallway? Yeah, they didn't get the message! This might be England's Versailles! Worth the angry villagers! The water gardens!

    Blenheim Palace

    May 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

So, what’s up with Blenheim? Well apparently a lot more than any of us knew! This was another stop that was definitely worth it and deserved far more than the 2 1/2 hours we were able to give it. Birth place of Winston Churchill and the home of the Duke of Marlborough, if you get a chance, take the trip!

The grounds and gardens were wonderful and the house was very impressive. Built in the mid 1700’s, the staterooms were beautiful. There was also an exhibit for Winston Churchill who was born here and asked his wife to marry him here. Learned a lot about the man I never knew, including that he predicted he would die the same day as his dad, twelve years before his death, and he was right!

We missed the food festival by a day which was probably a good thing, though I’m thinking that could be a pretty good day (the number of kegs being unloaded was quite substantial!).

Overall, an excellent side trip on our way north!

  • Where is you?

Just for Connor and Dont get lost!

    May 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

So, apparently, the time spent taking care of these gardens os pretty spectacular! I told Taylor that my expectations for Connor and Brandon when they trim our hedges has now changed slightly! You’ll need to read the marker in the picture to understand! Talk about some straight and clean cut hedges!

And the other picture, well, apparently getting lost, even though you have the keys, is frowned upon by some... if KK was 42 instead of 21, I think she would have wet her pants the way they were laughing at us! All I get is a text and a picture wondering where I am... at least I can keep them smiling even when the joke is on me!

  • Night number 2!
Oh yeah! They have a pub!!!!!!!Right off the side of the road, way to go Denise!Dinner viewTaylor didnt know what this was, and it took me 10 minutes to remember how to use it!

Night number 2 - a home run by Denise

    May 24, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Well, made it to our stay for our second night, from a Marriott to a village pub, I love it! The place is awesome, cozy and there are even some sheep that say Boo boo or bee bee, well if you’re Taylor! For the rest of us, they just said baaa baaaa.

We unfortunately missed lunch in our rush to get to Blenheim, so we had a nice dining experience Brandon would be proud of, I’m talking hours as we made our way through the courses, each one accompanied by a Guinness!!! I’ll remember you most of all bartender!

I hope everyone had a great day! We are off to Burghley House tomorrow and then up to York for the night. Until manana (so KK says!).

  • I mean its almost 11 and its only a 15 minute drive, jeesh!

Hmmm, I'm not as witty as I thought

    May 25, 2019 in England ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

So apparently, asking the girls what they are most looking forward to at Burghley House was not as engaging as I thought. Let’s hope it wakes them up a little and surprises like Blenheim did!
