    Santiago Centro

    With about 6 million residents, Santiago is the capital of Chile and sits west of the Andes Mountains. Summer (February) is warm and dry but starting to end. Although the days are still long, the mornings and evenings are cooler. We didn’t plan to go to Chile originally but I am so glad we did. It’s been one of our favorite places so far. It has a great public subway system that makes getting around easy. We explored the city center which has most of the remaining historic buildings. Like Lima, Santiago has suffered many earthquakes over the years destroying many of the older buildings. In fact, in 1960 Chile experienced the largest earthquake ever recorded at a magnitude of 9.6. After walking and exploring, we found an old style diner for lunch and I had a traditional style chicken soup. Since we are only in Santiago for a week, we ate most of our meals out.Læs mere
