Squirrel Monkeys and the Heron

Around 5:50,it was starting to get a bit dark. We saw some Squirrel monkeys on some of the trees near the shore. We also spotted a heron and a cayman.

Morning canoe ride (Sandoval Lake)

Flora and Fauna Sandoval Lake

The area of the Sandoval lake is very rich in plant and animal life. We saw many birds and flowers during the early part of ride.
Bats and Squirrel Monkeys

We saw more of the Hoatzels along the shore of the lake. A lot of them had their wings spread out for drying. We also saw many Anhingas fishing in the lake.

We saw a pair of Long billed woodcreeper feeding their chicks inside the hollow of a palm tree. We turned back towards the lodge and were back by about 8 am.

By about 12:15 pm, we were back at the port on Rio Madre de Dios. Our board was waiting there to take us back to Porto Maldonado. The journey took us about 45 min.

Back at Puerto Maldonado, we rearranged our bags. The laundry was also done, so we changed into some dry clothes and went out looking for some food and drinks..... and ice creams.

After a relaxed lunch and some ice creams we still had 4 hours to kill before our night bus to Cusco, so we walked along the Rio Madre de Dios one of the bigger tributaries of the Amazon.

We spent some time on the Puerto Maldonado harbor where they have built a memorial for the marines that have participated in wars from this area.
Off to Cusco
