Chiflon Qaqa tour - Back to the village

    16 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

By the time we started the walk back to the village, the time was almost 5 pm. The drizzle had continued all the while. From the top, we could see the rain clouds pouring down on the hills nearby. We also got a beautiful rainbow to end the tour with.
We took about 30 min to reach back the village. In the late evening, it started pouring pretty heavily and continued well into the night. There were streams of water flowing everywhere when we went out to have dinner around 8:30 pm. We were thinking that if we had left the Chiflon Qaqa tour for the next day, it may not have been possible due to the heavy rain that would have made the dry riverbed into an actual running river.

    17 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

As we started climbing the hill, we started crossing the layers that had been uplifted and turned. It was like a walk back into the time. With each layer, we could see the details of the era from the time that layer was created. As we moved higher, the layers came from deeper amd hence the fossils also from an older period.Читать далее

    The hail and downpour

    17 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We reached the hostel just in time. The rain had not started yet. The clouds were rolling in. We rushed to the terrace to remove the clothes and just in time. Within 5 min of our coming down it stared raining.
We decided to have our food at the community food area opposite the hostel.
As we started eating, the rain became a heavy downpour and soon there were hailstones. The heavy rain and hailstones lasted for about 20-30 minutes not before the whole area outside was covered in water and hailstones.
The 2 girls (most probably the daughters of the lady from whose stall I had eaten) came and sat with us waiting for the rain to subside.
After the rain stopped for a while, we went back to the hostel to rest and sleep for the night.

    Cuidad de Itas

    18 октября 2017 г., Боливия ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Cuidad de Itas in the Ghurini language means the city of the rocks. Its a place high up in the mountains made of natural rock formations. It was used by robbers to snatch bulls and cattle and hide them there. They used to multiply them there and butcher the older ones for bartering of goods with the villagers around the area.
The tour normally is combined with the Umajalanta cave tour that happens to be in the same direction. They can take max 6 people in a group.
We reached the tourist office by 7:30 am and started waiting for other people to show up so that we could divide the costs of the tour.
We waited more than 1.5 hrs. 3 groups of people came that were interested in the same tours, but all had formed their groups from before so nome of the them joined us nor could we join them.
In the end, around 9:15 am, we decided to do the tour on our own since no more people were expected to come and it was our last day in Toro Toro.
The tour cost a total of 576 b$ for the 2 of us.

There are many interesting formations in the shape of caves and natural arches. From the start of the boulders to the emd of the trail is abou 1 kms. There is a small cave at the start of the trek but there were people inside there so we decided to go to the end first.
On the way, we saw some lovely flowers that had bloomed due to the rains in the last 2 evenings. Our guide Timoteo told is that these from the family of onions. On the way we saw some interesting stone shapes as well.

On the trek back, we saw some cave painting on a flat wall of a boulder. The painting was made most probably from the blood of a sacrificial animal. The guide told us the age of the paintings to be from 15000 BC. I'm not sure about that claim though.
