    Arrived at the camping Duindoorn in IJmuiden. Had a problem. The lock of one of the drawers broke and the drawer hit the floor. Floor and drawer damaged. Drawer repaired for the moment.     The Forth Road Bridge

    Today we drove along the coast from Edinburgh to Saint Andrew, the famous golf spot. We passed the Forth Road Bridge with the old train bridge along side. The current bridge for traffic is about to be replaced. Is about time. Heavy trucks are only aloud to pass the bridge without other traffic. We passed the bridge at the moment all traffic on the other side was stopped to get a truck over the bridge. Traffic jam of a few miles as result. Btw, the roads are getting narrower and narrower. Temps are dropping rapidly, in the morning around 11-12 and during the day close to 17 degrees. Tomorrow heading to Dundee and from there in the direction of Stonehaven.     Silverbank

    At least we have a place to stay for the night. Noticed that it is currently high season in Scotland and you have to make a reservation if you want to stay at a camping place. Stonehaven was fully booked, but we have a pitch for tomorrow. We were redirected to Silverbank. This resulted in a very nice drive from the coast inland. Tomorrow just a short drive to a very nice village, Stonehaven.En savoir plus

    A bit (too) high

    Still on the Highlands tourist route. Roads getting smaller and hills steeper, up to 29%. So glad we took the 180 hp engine. Today we needed all of it. Passed the Lecht ski resort at the higest point (640m). From there downhill again. Close to Grantown on Spey it was up and down again.

    Situated in the stunning location in Eastern Cairngorms at 2,090 ft above sea level it is in the heart of Scotland’s largest National Park.
    Operating since the mid 1970s, the resort has grown from one ski tow to a year-round highland activity centre with 20 maintained ski runs and 13 lifts. This is one of Scotland’s top ski resorts and is accessible from one of the most scenically beautiful roads in Scotland, the A939, between Tomintoul and Strathdon and can be reached easily from Speyside and Aviemore, Donside and Aberdeen as well as royal Deeside.

    This natural playground offers exciting outdoor activities for both the summer and winter seasons. With the snow-making facility it offers some of the most consistent snow and is ideal for all levels of skiers and snowboarders but especially good for beginners and intermediates. All equipment can be hired online or at the centre it is strongly recommended to book it in advance due to a high demand. Clothing can be hired onsite in the Ski Snow Shop. The ski school provides also a range of trainings to develop skiing skills.

    In the summer months the centre has two mountain bike trails, no need to push up the hill, simply attach your bike to the 3 man chairlift and up you go. Calling before travelling is recommended to check weather conditions as high winds can affect the running on the chairlift.

    With the help of very friendly staff visitors are guaranteed to have enjoyable days out on the hills.    En savoir plus

    Grantown on Spey

    The small town of Grantown-on-Spey on the edge of the spectacular Cairngorms National Park is a great base for exploring the Strathspey area.
    Situated halfway between the Cairngorm and Lecht ski areas, the town is surrounded by ancient woodlands with a unique habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. This popular holiday destination is popular in the winter season with skiers and snowboarders and is a great starting point for climbing, walking and exploring the countryside. The town is also conveniently located for the 70 mile long famous Speyside Malt Whisky Trail.

    The town boasts a number of other attractions ranging from a superb 18-hole golf course to the Grantown Heritage Museum and the delightful Revack Estate. The estate is home to beautiful gardens, an orchid house and nature trail and is a great adventure playground for both individuals and families.

    Strathpeffer

    Lunch break in a small cosy town, just out of the English novels

    Strathpeffer is a leafy Victorian spa town surrounded by wooded hills, 4 miles west of Dingwall on the Black Isle.
    Situated within striking distance of the bleak Ben Wyvis, the town is a popular base for walkers. There are superb views from the Iron Age hill fort of Knock Farril, of the Cromarty Firth and of the surrounding mountains. Another good walk is through Ord Wood to picturesque Loch Kinellan, where a small island bears the ruin of a fort.

    During its heyday, Strathpeffer was a renowned European health resort. A recent facelift is redeveloping the grand pavilion as a performing arts centre and has recently restored the Pump Room where visitors drank water from wells to treat all manner of ailments. Visitors can still do this either here or at the small pavilion in the main square.

    The Highland Museum of Childhood, located at the restored Victorian train station, looks at growing up in the Highlands and is a great way to explore the local history and traditions.

    Camping site Brora

    Stayed for the night

    Situated just north or Brora on the east coast of Sutherland, Brora Caravan Club Site is set in a sheltered saucer of land with pretty views of the surrounding countryside and ust 300 yards from a sandy beach. You can play golf directly from the caravan site and use the course as your pathway to the sea.

    The site offers plenty of attractions for the whole family. Birdwatchers will be in their element - there are even Arctic Tern nesting just above the beach waterline. Those who enjoy water activities will have a choice of the loch or the sea for either swimming or fishing. The caravan park is an ideal place to unwind - you can lose track of time while watching birds, seals, dolphins and deer. The village of Brora is only a couple of miles away and has shops and a couple of dining options, and you can walk further down the coast to Golspie with additional eating and drinking establishments.

    To fully take in the spectacular views of the region you can walk, drive or cycle along quiet routes to discover the many picturesque lochs and mountains. The single track rail journey to Wick is a scenic must and the Orkney Islands beckon with day trips from John O'Groats at Brora during the summer.

    Using a highly effective mixture of animations, lasers and special effects, visitors can experience the history of the monster by exploring Scotland’s geological past and folklore. Find out what has been discovered and what research has been done and view some of the actual equipment used to explore and navigate the Loch.

    There are also various shopping outlets, the Loch Ness Cafe and plenty of places to explore.

    During the summer season, book a boat trip aboard the Deepscan and begin your own adventure of discovery to see what lurks beneath the water.
