  • Starting out Postojna

    April 30 in Slovenia ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

The bag came in from the airport and I got everything loaded up just after noon. It's not perfect but it will do for today.

I haven't been on a bicycle for a real ride in over a month, maybe almost two. Off the couch used to be my specialty, but it's getting harder. 57km should be far enough and also not too short.

Actually it was just right. I wouldn't have wanted it any longer and the sun was getting low on the horizon.

Beautiful day-beautiful ride. The hostel has individual bike boxes that hold the whole bike, serious peace of mind.

  • Ljubjlana - stuck

    April 29 in Slovenia ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

I am not able to get started on my bike ride because my luggage was lost by Turkish Airlines and as of early afternoon it still has not been found and it's not even in the system. That doesn't bode well.

Making the most of this wonderful afternoon with spring weather. Sat in a café sipping on a zero beer by the river in the old downtown and went on an informative walking tour as well.

My bags' location is still completely unknown by nightfall, it's been 24 hours. In the morning I inquire again, providing the same information a second time, this time I get an answer, the bag is found, it is in Denver and it's on its way. Combined with today's rain that's excellent news. I took another nap for my jet lag and went to IKEA for swedish meatballs and free Wi-Fi. It is very close to the Decathlon and I'll go there when the rain stops. I am so looking forward to pedaling and breathing hard again, it's been a while.

  • Getting to Ljubjana

    April 26 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

    Onwards!

The first leg from Fargo to Denver on United I was upgraded to first class, a nice touch for his first international trip in a long time.

Next I'm flying with Turkish Airlines on an A350 for 11 and 1/2 hours from Denver to Istanbul. An A350 900ULR can actually fly for 20 hours which is 9700 nautical miles.

Funny enough, I just drove from Grand Forks, ND to Fargo and flew to Denver only to fly right back over Grand Forks again half a day later. Right below me is Oliver working in the Fritz theatre setting up for a show that runs next week.

Istanbul is spread out and the new airport is well outside the city. Quick layover and off to Ljubjana. There were some young kids at the fence plane spotting, that brought back memories with Oliver.

My bag is lost or delayed so I filed a report. Rain is forecast for Wednesday and tomorrow potentially and clouds are on the horizon. It rained cats and dogs the last time I was here. The first thing you smell when you leave the airport building is the fresh scent of cow manure, this of course is from all the farms surrounding the airport.
