      Le piccole avventure tragicomiche

      16. august 2023, Skotland ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

      Prima notte a Edimburgo

      13. august 2023, Skotland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

"The Drumsheugh Gardens Upkeep Committee (DGUC), originally established in 1878, is responsible for the maintenance of these private Gardens on behalf of property Owners in Drumsheugh Gardens" http://www.drumsheughgardens.org.uk/About-Us/

      Tag 2, ohne Ende Sightseeing

      2. september 2022, Skotland ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

      Busses and Beer

      28. december 2019, Skotland ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F

Well for comparison. 2.20 got me this 660 ml (22 ounces) beer. 4.50 will get me an all day buss ticket. The bottle of beer was the smallest bottle they had. Oh and although my bills are all sterling pounds they are from Scotland banks and may not be accepted throughout the UK. Who knew?Læs mere

Back in the Disunited Kingdom of not so Great Britain & Northen Ireland for a few days...

With Brexit in full flow it is not too far a streatch to imagine a bunch of new countries coming to these green and pleasant islands soon. England & Wales together but alone in the world, Scotland & Northern Ireland independant and part of the Scandinavian bloc and remaining in the EU and the City State of London, more powerful than all of them but equally alone; surrounded as it would be by the English & Welsh country :-)

A fortified customs border between England and Scotland... a new Hadrians Wall? A road bridge connecting Scotland & N Ireland? A Walled London with a Tunnel from the City to the Channel Tunnel?

The Celtic Union, Waland (or Enges) and the European City State of London

      The mind boggles...

      Edinburgh at last!

      17. august 2018, Skotland ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

Due to our four hour delayed arrival, there were no gates available at EDI, so we had to wait for stairs to be brought for deplaning, then wait for bus to take us to Customs. Because we weren't at the regular Customs entry, no electronic Global Entry, so a long line to get through. But, with the worst of the travel behind us 🤞, we had a wonderful taxi driver and arrived at our hotel. The Bonham is charming and quaint, and the bed was the best thing we'd seen after our journey. Time for a rest, a shower, then off to the Royal Military Tattoo.Læs mere

      Wow! Just Wow!

      17. august 2018, Skotland ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

We wound our way along the wynds and closes to Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, where the Royal Military Tattoo is performed nightly in August. What a spectacle! The Tattoo is not only a gathering of some of the world's best pipe bands, but includes military bands, singers from Malawi Girls School, mariachis and Aztec dancers from Mexico, Czech dancers, an amazing Swiss drumline drill team, a Colonial fife and drum corps, the US Air Force precision rifle team, and even horseback bagpipers from Oman. It is all accompanied by fireworks, light and laser effects. At the end, a lone piper stands highlighted against the dark sky on the battlements at the top of the castle. Goosebumps!Læs mere

      St Andrews and Edinburgh

      28. maj 2022, Skotland ⋅ ⛅ 57 °F

We’re down again today with two more having tested positive. Need to make it to 4:10 tomorrow for “good to fly” test. Need good thoughts coming my way!

We took off to St Andrews. What a cool town with St Andrews Golf Course, St Andrew’s University, ruins of a castle, ruins of a cathedral and the beach all close to each other. St. Andrews dates to the Middle Ages when St. Andrew (patron saint of Scotland) made the town cathedral one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Christians. After the Reformation the mayor started introducing a popular game called golf.

St Andrew’s, considered the mecca of golf, was first played here in the early 15 century. It’s nicknamed “Old Grand Lady”. The St Andrew’s Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in the world and is celebrating its 150 anniversary this year. There are 7 courses with the Oldest Course the most popular. The Swilcan Bridge on the 18th hole of the Old Course was built 700 yrs ago for shepherds. The course is not private but owned by the town. It’s a beautiful setting at the edge of the bay. I learned what a links golf course is, too. Basically links are built on sandy soil on coastal land that is buffeted by the wind. There are few if any trees but it has tall thick grasses (some several feet) and there are many bunkers of which some are quite deep. Tiger Woods hates it here…to hard with the grasses and wind, I guess.

We’re back in Edinburgh for the last two nights and Nigel took us on an orientation walk of the neighborhood. It is quite close to where Rebecca and I stayed at the Airbnb. This hotel is probably my favorite. I have a view of the castle, cathedral, and it is beautiful. Rebecca has a view of what we call a fairy tale village. The two of us explored and wandered until we found the place. It’s my favorite area of everywhere we’ve been…so peaceful, beautiful, and just magical. We had such a large lunch and dessert that we skipped dinner and enjoyed conversation in the lobby with an employee, Ronnie. This whole afternoon and evening here has made a wonderful memory for me.

Wee bit of info: There’s a good chance that Scotland will break away from England because the Scottish people were against the Brexit exit and have completely lost trust in Westminster and Parliament. Ninety two percent of the people voted in Scotland compared to about 61% in our election. They are not against the monarchy. They want to keep the Queen, but if they do she will be known as Queen Elizabeth I here in Scotland. There’s never been an Elizabeth on the throne in Scotland. She would still be Queen Elizabeth II in England. These names are so confusing on how they change.
