    • Marvellous Mayfair 💰💰💰

      June 14, 2022 in England ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Realising I only have 10 days left and so much I still want to do! I started to panic but I reflected on how much I have done; so many amazing memories made, so decided today would be a relaxing day to take another walking 🚶🏻‍♂️ tour and go to another brand new West End Theatre 🎭 Show! Glorious 28 degrees ☀️☀️☀️

Full buffet breakfast 🍳 included in hotel 🏨 room cost today so a great start to the Lovely London day! I forgot how London is not really built for hot weather.: The tube is stifling on a hot day. 🥵 I made another observation on the tube this morning also: All of the handrails in each train correspond to the colours of each line. I don’t know why I haven’t noticed this before 🤷🏻‍♂️for example, blue handrails are on the Victoria line, purple handrails are on the Elizabeth line! 🚊 Bit of useless information for you! 😝

Went on a walking tour through Mayfair this morning. The area was developed late 1700’s for the rich: old money 💰 and new money 💵 during the Regency and Edwardia periods in London. It is still very opulent and rich as you will see from the photos. Claridge’s posh hotel 🏨 is here and we also visited the former apartment of Jimi Hendrix and the classical composer, Handel. Apparently Jimi Hendrix loved Handel and was proud to live in the apartment next door (obviously in different periods in history!). Even though he was a rock legend he loved the classical music. Jimi only lived there for a year but has been quoted as saying it was the happiest period of his life! 🙂

We visited Berkeley Square. Apparently it is famous for a song about nightingales which I have no idea about. Maybe someone can enlighten me!? The walking group broke out into song 🎶 Richard would’ve loved 🥰 it!

Second photo looks like a small terrace house but it is completely palatial inside.! A lot of the terrace houses are like this: opulent, chandeliers, dripping with Gilded features. 💰👑💰👑

Essentially, Mayfair is just chock full of wealth! In 2017 Qatar 🇶🇦 bought up about 70% of the property in Mayfair! Not only are they the worlds best airline (…which I can now attest to!) but the richest too!

Went by Selfridges also and I took a look inside. So much history & wonderment 😍😍😍 it’s very high end and full of pretentious wankers to be honest. Couldn’t get outta there quick enough. In fact, the entire shopping Oxford Street, Regent Street and New Bond Street has really never been my bag!🤪

These London walks are probably my favourite attraction in London, apart from Big Ben obviously. You walk with such passionate guides and find out so much hidden information and secrets. They are amazing and make me fall in love with London even more! 😍

After the walk I found a little pub called “The Spread Eagle 🦅 (“keep it nice “Mummy”!🫣😝) and relaxed 😎 with a couple of ciders and traditional fish and chips with mushy peas! Yum 😋 Although, just quietly, we do it better: taste 👅 and value! Sorry. Not sorry 😝

I walked over the Waterloo Bridge this afternoon, as I used to many times when living here, and thought I would see if my Barber 💈 was still in the same place… he was! Had a quick buzz cut to freshen up for the next few days! 💇🏻‍♂️

As a special treat, for those of us that need a daily fix of the iconic tube I’ve included a circle ⭕️ line train 🚊 via Victoria 😍 from Embankment. Unfortunately the best part: that combined smell of grease & hot 🔥 steel is not available. 😉

      Advance Warning ⚠️ ⚠️
When I return back to cold 🥶 dreary wintery Melbourne my friends are going to have to check in because it is going to be unbearable LOL 😝😫⚠️⚠️

      Oxford Street

      October 5, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Good day today. My tummy has finally settled down and hope it long continues like that.
Susie and Kel off on their shopping adventure today, they went to Sheffield, Angel and all over the place. Beth met her friend who used to own Kels Whiritoa house and had a day catching up with her.
I caught the bus and after many diversions finally made it to Oxford. Saw a funeral with an amazing Hearst, but didn’t think it appropriate to take a photo 🤭.
Had myself some fresh pasta with bolognase sauce and a virgin Mojito for lunch.
We all got back to the apartment within 10 mins of each other. Further perusal of goods bought, and discussions on items seen but not purchased so there might be a little more shopping done yet….
Could at last get All Blacks game on the TV, so that meant my ipad was free! Good game to watch, wasn’t a complete walkover which I was expecting.
All in all a good day for everyone.
Pictures are of where we are staying. Hospital on the right, courtyard is out front. Literally walk up the driveway/road and the bus stop is there. Great location

Big Bus - Hop on Hop Off Tour 💂🏻‍♀️

      July 7, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Today we started by hopping on a bus and driving around downtown London to see the most famous sights! We saw everything from Trafalgar Square which celebrates the English win over Napoleon, Victoria’s Tower which houses Big Ben (the biggest of five bells which rings on the hour), the beautifully detailed Houses of Parliament, the massive London Eye, the iconic Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and soooooo much more!!! 🤩🤩 The bus was a great way to see things and we could get off to explore!

One of today’s highlights was having INDONESIAN FOOD!!! 😋🤤🇮🇩 It was delicious we had nasi goreng (fried rice), sate ayam (chicken skewers), tempe goreng (fried soybeans), and rendang (Indonesian beef curry). Even though the food was absolutely delicious, the best part was seeing how happy Hunter was when he was talking to the servers! 🥹🥰

      Liberty Mall

      December 13, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Read more

Hamleys Toy Store and Barbican Lunch

      September 6, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Today we have had a relatively easy day. We lazily got up and and took our time with our breaky before jumping on the Tube to make our way to Hamleys Toy Store on Regent Street

It is spread over many floor with a Harry Potter Shop in the basement. You can get any type of toy you like there. I mostly concentrated on the Playmobil and Lego but we still did the Star Wars, Harry Potter, Gaming and all the other sections (and there were many).

Unfortunately for us and all the other customers the air con was being fixed and it got to 31 deg today. I miss our pampered air conditioned buildings.

After Hamleys we had a wander around Regent Street ans surrounds. It's a pretty nice part of town. Full of expensive clothing stores and jewellery shops. We made our way to where Adams office is which is very near a lovely open area called Finsbury Circus Gardens. It is surrounded by a crescent beautiful buildings with the circus as the central feature. loads of people out at lunchtime enjoying the sun whilst having their lunch.

We met Adam at his office and we all had lunch together. Adam took us to The Barbican Centre, it is a brutalist building from the late 80's. It's a concrete mass which is a cultural centre for theatre, galleries and eateries. We had lunch there and spent some time with Adam.

We left Adam to get back to work and Dan wanted to go and check out some record shops at Shepherds Bush. I jumped of the train at our station whilst David and Dan went on to do their record stuff.

They ended up at Portobello Markets. Dan bought himself a few records and a really nice leather jacket (although it's way to hot to wear it!).

David bought me a beautiful map of the Cotswold area from 1825. So lovely, can't wait to frame it and hang it at home.

      Hamleys-ein Paradies für Kinder

      April 8, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Wow, was ein Erlebnis.

      October 12, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

      Aussteigen, umsteigen, einchecken.
